Just read the Cobbs preview & it sounds like they're going to try former forward 6-4 Ryan Johnson or 5-10 So Jason Huschle at PG.  If that doesn't work, they're going to give them the quick hook & try one of their freshmen.  I'm guessing that would be either Erik Lien or Karl Olson.   Sounds like the coaches said - "hey, look fellas -- last year we had a big problem at PG & this year we're going to fix it.  If you're not up to it, we're going to the next player until we can find someone who can more than adequately run point."

Tough love up in Spud-town.  :o :D

Cobbs host the Dragons next Tuesday night. The good Lord willing and the creek don't rise, I think I will take that one in! With the FROSH look around the conference, my bet is Lien or Olson are running the point by the time the MIAC schedule gets in full swing after Christmas.

For posterity sake and bragging rights I have started an excel spreadsheet with everyone's conference picks. So far I have 5 sets of picks in: ptper35,extremetuber,d3bfollower,cmob & voj. I went back about 5-6 pages and didn't see any others. Between now and the 28th post your picks and I will add them too the sheet. It should be interesting to look back at them.

p.s. let me know if I have missed any.

Does anyone know anything about the newcomers from the La Crosse area?
Shmidtknecht at Gustavus, Holland at St. Mary's, and Fahey at St. Thomas? Heard that Holland is a stud and will start for St.Mary's (not a tough line-up to crack).

1010101010-welcome to the board!  looks like you got a little lost earlier, glad you could make it.

sum are we duplicating efforts?  If by conference picks you talking how teams will end up 1-11, I'm already all over it.  and i have 11 sets of picks so far.

drake  i chose friday because that's when UST's debut game in Wooster is.  I figure now there is a significant lack of information to keep people on roughly equal ground.

You got mine about 4 or 5 pages back?

papahoops

My picks:
Bethel
Gustavus
Macalester
St. Thomas
St. Johns
Augsburg
St. Olaf
Carleton
St. Marys
Hamline

I know I have MAC way higher than most (assuming Abe/TCON stay healthy) and am obviously biased, but after seeing two scrimmages I really like the chemistry of the team. I believe they will create a lot of matchup problems for other teams with Abe/ TCON and Ranwick can knock down the trey as well as anyone in the league. My concern had been with the lack of experience at the 3 and 4 spots and the depth, but I now feel the combination of returning sophomores Paul Richey and Jerry Krause, combined with 4 quality freshmen, will give MAC the quality minutes at they need at the 3/4 positions and backing up the 1/2/5 starters to succeed.

DRAKE,
You are correct, the MAC preview lists Trey Mullen, but showed Colin Keeley's High School Information behind Trey's name. Although only two freshmen were highlighted in the preview, I would expect all 4 freshmen to see the floor. This will be a more athletic and deeper MAC team than people are used to seeing. I'm hoping the freshmen mature quickly and the seniors stay healthy so my prediction is accurate. Let the season begin!

Dang Phoops - Too bad they've got Mac scheduled to hit the stage at 4:00 in the afternoon on a work day.  Otherwise, I'd be real tempted to run over & take a look at the new look, athletic Scots & the Four Horsemen, I mean the Four Freshmen.  Wasn't that a singing group as well??   :D ::)

Good thing Bethel, & Oles are playing Friday night, but this game shapes up to be the most interesting.

If MAC spreads the floor I think they could have a real interesting tilt with River Falls.  Zone  RFalls & make 'em prove they can shoot.  Good luck. We'll be looking for a game recap Friday or Saturday!

Holland will probably start along with another freshman will wright... Both are good scorers, can get to the hoop, and have good speed.  Apparently Holland has averaged about 15 or so in the two scrimmages

How's the rest of the team looking -- Mikey Sweeney, the Knights, Rohr, Cormier? Any other FY getting clock like Ralph Crews or Mario Allen?  Inquiring minds need to know.

Playing a very uptempo style this year.... They'll probably be full court press all game with their speed.  Cormier has played solid in the two scrimmages and Rohr has played well also.  I wouldn't leave sweeney an open look at the hoop.  As for the knights, they are solid shooters...not so great at taking care of the ball, but it will be trouble for a lot of teams if these guys get hot.  Ralph Crews will be a practice player this year, along with Mario....both need some work yet.

Speaking of games, now SDGusties & Sum - Is Sum going to do the Pickems & SDG you're doing the YNOT?

I just sent Sum the spreadsheet for both, but I believe he's only going to do 1.  With family, work, and everything else, I don't think I'll be able to carry the YNOT torch for year 2.

I'll be at the Olaf/Buena Vista tilt Friday night, so i'll try to provide some insight from that match-up at some point this weekend.

MM,

I'd like to have whatever drug you're on if you think Olaf is going to finish 10th. They did lose Bain, Bergstrom and Butala, but they have plenty of talent back to make a run at a playoff spot.

My predictions:

1. Bethel
2. Gustavus
3. St. John's
4. St. Thomas
5. St. Olaf
6. Macalester
7. Augsburg
8. Concordia
9. Carleton
10. Hamline
11. St. Mary's

Koz is still coaching, isn't he? They have a chance to finish fifth or 10th.

My thunder has been stolen...but keep your eyes on Holland and Wright. They could have the same effect as Abe had at Mac, but they have enough help to run it through the year. I might be crazy, but it doesn't seem too farfetched that SMU could host a first round playoff game. Of course, the big IF is staying healthy.
