First things first. Congrats to St. Thomas on a phenomenal upset!

Must continue to divert attention from another bad Cards loss...

The Chicago Tribune uses "loyalties lay" in a recent story, but the Washington Post goes with "loyalties lie" in another. Is either actually wrong or is maicsuperfan being anal?

It's "lie" ... unless your loyalties are actually in the process of putting something down. The Trib is a newspaper that has been in a long, slow decline in terms of quality over the years. It's almost as though owning the Cubs has infected the competence of the newspaper side of the corporation.

I'm hereby declaring "medieval offensive tendencies" to be my favorite phrase of the 2007-08 season to date. Sorta gives "taking it to the rack" a whole new meaning, doesn't it?

I'm going to pretend miacsuperfan didn't ignore the entire point of my post to nitpick and just move on...

...to a HUGE upset!

I haven't seen WSU play but for the title game last year, but it returned its best two players and had been rolling people. With this win and the close loss to Wooster, I think UST has just jumped over the defense-less Royals to become the clear MIAC favorites. No matter their loyalties, I'd be surprised if anyone tries to argue with this.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

True.
I assumed Winona State had improved comparing scores from this season's WSU-Bethany Lutheran game compared to last years- as it was a 9point game last year and a 60 point game this year.  What a great win for the Tommies, the MIAC and D-3 in general.

Bethany also gave Mankato a game at the Bresnan Center.  Bethany is is not as good this year.  Winona should be as good as last year, if not better.  They have two DII All-Americans on that team.  I watched St Cloud lose to Winona in the NCAA Regional.  Win Winona is on their game, they are a machine.  This upset is unreal to me.

Wow is right - Good upps, good hooping, good winning UST!
I was in Wisconsin this afternoon & missed the news.

Sorta of a mini-day of redemption for the MIAC.  Concordia finally breaks into the win column with a 67-51 win over the mini-MIAC slayer Luther.

Carleton goes through Iowa like a farmer cutting down the last wheat crop of the fall & knocks off Wartburg 82-75.  ;D Obviously a big win for the Tommies, but the Carlies get a very nice, quality D3 regional win.  Wartburg's already got a win over #13 ranked Aurora out of Illinois, & lost by 2 points to pre-season Midwest Conference favorite Grinnell.  I think Zorro feels like he has a point to prove this year. 28 points two nights in a row?!?

Before the UST upset victory, I was planning on posting a game summary of one of the toughest D3 teams I've personally seen in a couple of years.  This afternoon in Menomonie at the UW-Stout tourney, I watched D3Hoops 19th ranked Puget Sound totally dismantle D2 Bemidji State 91-68.  Very, very impressive club.  I'd like to see what Lewis & Clark looks like if the Puget Sound Loggers are picked to finish second in the Northwest Conference.  After I see this year's version of the Tommies, I'll have to make Puget Sound the 2nd best team I've seen so far this season.  ;)

"If anything here offends, I beg your pardon. I come in peace, I depart in gratitude." ;)

Chica yea false identification

this is an unreal upset....

This Winona team is not only what I feel to be better than last years team, but the best team they've had.

Amazing win for the tommies and as for winona state we should be seeing them on cbs again i'd imagine at the end of the year.

GOT BALLS? PLAY FOR THE FALLS!

Pipers fall to OshKosh 68-54 at the Dells. Hamline had a two-point halftime lead, but was unable to muster enough offense down the stretch. I think this will be a reoccuring theme. Good for the game's first 20 minutes.

Thrasher 14, Luke Johansen 9 and Kujolic 8.

I've got a question for anyone who might know...what is the deal with the new way that players line up on the key for free throws this year? What is the theory/reasonoing for puting that rule in place?

So it is going to be that type of year in the MIAC.  Who knows who is going to win what games.  St. Thomas, and i am not a huge fan of the Tommies but give cred when it is due, pulls off an amazing upset.  Congrats to them and to coach Fritz.  Then after that Carlton continues to impress.  I think a lot of posters are going to be eating their pre-season conference picks, including myself.  It seems to me that this year will be crazier than the D-1 College football season.

Oh Vikes, why do we win games, bench AP for the year so he is healthy nad we don't risk his career, get a sweet draft pick and tear it up next year.

I couldn't agree more.  Shut AP down for the year, get a good draft pick, and come back strong next year.  So what if we barely sneack into the playoffs...we'll lose right away, and kiss a high draft pick goodbye. I'm pulling for the lions next weekend.

G&B,

The rule with lining up at the free throw line is experimental this year from what I know. It threw me for a loop in some D-I games that I've already seen on tv. It seems the purpose for it is to put even more of an emphasis on boxing out. Without a defender on the block right next to the hoop, it seems like it should be easier to grab on offensive board off a missed free throw, unless you're boxing your guy out.

A shocking and impressive win for the Tommies in Winona yesterday. Did we see a young UST squad, in particular Nicolai, grow up a little in this game? I love the fact that a FY has the guts to score the game-winning shot in OT against the top team in D-II.

I'm very curious and excited to see how the Gophs do on Tuesday at Florida St. since they'll be on ESPN.

Thanks...I don't really see a need for it.  There was nothing wrong with the previous setup, so why mess with it.
