well with the way Conboy has been playing don't be surprised to see his name thrown into the group for consideration if he continues his hot shooting...

I just want to state my claim I was the first one to predict Brady Brink as MIAC MVP.   With the absence of FOGT there is great room for him to maximise his rebounds plus the fact his two games he is 9-11 shooting and 13-16 shooting.  Not to forget about his 16-22 shooting against concordia st paul in scrimmage!!!

Dude where you been!  You ain't posted since last year.  ;D

I'm sorry but I just gotta say this, & I might get in trouble. Non-jumpshooting, unorthodox release Tom Conboy goes off -- 4-4 from beyond the arc??  Before Papahoops jumps down my throat, I should remind him that I was the first to clamor for a Mac bandwagon this season. 'scuse me, while I try to hoist myself up.  ;)

On the other hand, if all Mac is doing on their offense is giving Abe license to run around & hoist, not too many conventional defenses are designed to stop that stuff.

very true Drake...could we possibly see a "Box and 1" or "Triangle and 2" against the Scots in the near future???

In the words of my hero:
"We comin!"

Looking in your eyes, I see a paradise.
This world that I found is too good to be true.
Standing here beside you, I want so much to give you this love in my heart that im feeling for you
Let them say we're crazy.
I don't care about that.
Put your hand in my hand, baby, don't ever look back.
Let the world around us just fall apart.
Maybe we can make it if we're heart to heart.
And we can build this thing together, stand in stone forever, nothing's gonna stop us now.
And if this world runs out of lovers we'll still have eachother.
Nothing's gonna stop us, nothing's gonna stop us now.
I'm so glad I found you, I'm not gonna lose you, whatever it takes to stay here with you.
Take it too the good times, see it through the bad times.
Whatever it takes is what I'm gonna do.
Let them say we're crazy.
What do they know?
Put your arms around me, baby, don't ever let go.
Let the world around us just fall apart.
Baby, we can make it if we're heart to heart.
Oh, all that I need is you.
All that I ever need.
All that I want to do is hold you forever, forever and ever.

And we can build this thing together, stand in stone forever, nothing's gonna stop us now.
And if this world runs out of lovers we'll still have eachother.
Nothing's gonna stop us, nothing's gonna stop us now.

And we can build this thing together, stand in stone forever, nothing's gonna stop us now.
And if this world runs out of lovers we'll still have eachother.
Nothing's gonna stop us, nothing's gonna stop us now.

I'll be back tomorrow for some actual basketball talk. Just completed my 12-page winter sports preview and I'm part delirious, part craving Taco Bell.

SUMMIT!!!!!

back from Collegeville, where it was EVW & Buf vs Rocori...

Brink looked incredible....the biggest thing wasnt his boards, points, steals or shooting %.... it was his defense. He shut Linz down cold!

Lieser's 20 was the softest 20 ive seen....any more bricks and I woulda thought it was Booth in his uni

Cobbers have some soft inside players...missed plenty of in-the-paint shots that could have swung the game around... the short spurt they were converting them, CC rallied into the lead.

Sexton was quiet, bland and sterile....the students sat on their hands mostly. The biggest noise they made came right after halftime when a few jr hi kids were giving out leftover pizza
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

Italian proverb

papahoops

After three miserable experiences at the Gus Young gym is St. Peter the past 3 years, tonight's come from behind MAC victory was very sweet for Papahoops. Ive seen a lot of great individual performances in my years of watching D3 basketball, but have never seen two players on the same team put on that type of offensive perfomance. I thought the Gusties played well and felt the refs did nothing to help the MAC squad by allowing the deeper Gusties team to play very physical defense.
In the end, however, Abe and TCON were too much for the Gusties tonight. It is only one game, but the MAC fans at Gus Young (all 9 of us) certainly enjoyed this win toonight.

Is it too early to pull the bandwagon out of the shed?

Yeah, I thought so. I'll check back later.

Go Scots!!  No webcast--maybe because they knew we were gonna beat them and they didn't want anyone listening.

I'm happy with the outcome but we're not getting 67 from two guys every night.

Fantastic opening night.

Major thumbs down for technology, I couldn't get any webcasts.  Were schools not broadcasting?  Hopefully something gets resovled soon.  Good to know others shared my pain.

Major props to SMU however.  They have a live Stat tracker that is pretty impressive.

Some big underdog wins...Macalaster, Hamline, and Carelton all had gutsy performances. Congrats to those teams and their standard bearers - oAs and piperinsider

Mac needs to find some support for Abe and Conboy or the season will get long.  We'll probably hear both of their names quite a bit in the coming months.

At one point I remember looking at Hamline's history and 80 pts at home sticks out to me as a magic number.  If they can hit that mark they are VERY successful. For opponents that means bring your best defense.

For me the jury is still out on Carelton.  Tough loss for Augsburg.

My last thought is that this will be a year of who's got guts.  I think tonight's storylines will be echoed throughout the season (which is a lot of fun for us). Ice in the vains for free throws will decide many games this year.  But those slim margins all have potential playoff implications in a tight year.

Hang on folks, it's gonna be a wild ride!!!!

OAS- the game should have been available on the web, as all Gustie bball games are webcast. Are you sure it wasn't a tech problem on your end?

Gusties "home floor advantage", IMHO, is completely down the 'ol crapper. Giving up 50 in the 2nd half?

"The Wood" has these observations:

  1.  Augsburg being 0-4.....thought they would be better than that?
  2. Gusties defense is as soft as a Bruegger's softwich sandwich
  3. UST is once again a strong, tough team who I think will contend for the MIAC crown
  4. BU's defense is as soft as GAC's.....that game could be 109-108 in 5 OT's
  5. Agree that SJU's Brink is Big Money. Very solid player
  6. Except for Fogarty, SJU's ass't coaches must be the youngest group in the country.
  7. Is Carleton this good? (and Drake with only 4 pts last night? Is he injured?)
  8. The Gusaas kid from Hamline.....will he not see the floor much this year? He's a BIG GuY.....is he not a fit with the new coach?
  9. WW: your Gustie would beat the current GAC group by 40....without breaking a sweat
10. WW: how are the Red Wing boys/girl's team going to fare this year?

Enough of my ramblings......this should be enough for a couple of months!

Steve Banick for 30? 0 points in 32 minutes.

Bobby Hunter's 36 points and nine rebounds (25 shots, wow).

Eric Clute scores 23 for the Pipers after making just 4 of 14 shots. He did make 13 of 14 free throws.

Whitmore plays 13 - Kujolic played six minutes after starting. Key reserve a year ago Brad Brake played one minute. Looks like the coach is still trying to figure what he has if he is playing those many guys for 10 minutes.

Bench points: STO 13, HAM 55

Fellas,

I know this is off the beaten path a bit...but can anyone give me a scouting report on Minneapolis South?  I have a friend who's team is facing them in an out of state holiday tourney...just some basics would be nice...

Interesting night in the MIAC...from the looks of things, homecourt advantage is not what it used to be...lets hope that holds true Saturday when the J's travel to Winona...

By the way...Foggs and Smith are young at heart...no matter their age
