Bethel about to lose to hamline..like 4.8 seconds left and down 4, hamline ball.  Bethel will finish 4th in the miac.

SJU barely escapes SMU 80-77, looks like there was 3pt attempt at the end by the birds to try to tie at the end.

Stat line of the game....

Bench points:
SMU -46
SJU - 0

TEAM--> FG:40.0%  3FG:35.3%  FT:45.5%    TEAM--> FG:55.8%  3FG:66.7%  FT:76.0%
La Crosse                                                       Tommies

Tommies also have 15 guys on the box score.  Holding LaCrosse to 19 in a half is pretty darn good.  LaCrosse looks like they came alive a bit more in the 2nd scoring 40.

Outstanding free throw defense by the Tommies as well.... :o

Looking in your eyes, I see a (winning look).
This (Piper team) that I found is too good to be true.
Sitting here (on the web), I want so much to give you this (diddy) in my heart that im feeling for (them)

Let them say we're crazy.
(They said you'd finish last)
(Keep on winning), don't ever look back.
Let the (other teams) around us just fall apart.
Maybe we can make it (from last to first).

And we can build this (title) together, stand in (first) forever, nothing's gonna stop us now.
And if this (race) runs out of (contenders) we'll still have each other.
Nothing's gonna stop us, nothing's gonna stop us now.

Balanced scoring for the Johnnies.   Leiser and Burtzel with 19 apiece and Brink and Schwartz each with 17.  Leiser, Burtzel and Brink all play 40 minutes, Schwartz logs 38 and Johnson 35.  Hence, the disparity in bench scoring that AS pointed out.

I have a love -hate thing with this new lyric spouting Piperinsider! But I guess if your Pipers can keep pulling off upsets like this - we'll even let you sing the national anthem at the Playoffs  ::) ??? ;D +K

Pretty amazing win by the Tommies today!  With all of the things going against them -- umpteenth game on the road, young club, crummy weather, a team that seems to have their number etc. this could have been an easily excused loss.

I've already forgotten everything I said about Bethel winning 18 games this year, and you should too!   ;D

A boxscore, a boxscore, a kingdom for a boxscore!  C'mon Royals, you're the home team, cough up!  ::) ;D

I see all the Saturday night vultures (myself included  ;)) hanging out at the top of the board - Mose, Snow, hoops1010, Dread, etc. waiting to read the autopsy results from the game between Bethel & Hamline.  ;D

Although, not critically wounded,  but all of a sudden Bethel's league title chances are looking a bit shaky now.  They've got to go on the road to play the Gusties on Monday, then close out the December portion of league play with another road trip to the surging Carlies.  ??? ;)  This is when coaches start talking about building character & championship caliber teams.  Lets' see how they respond.

A good win for the Gusties today considering Wittwer took only 2 shots and fouled out with 10 minutes to go in the game. Doble goes 9-10fg off the bench and McPartland goes 7-8fg off the bench.

Good game at Bethel this evening. I interviewed Coach Whitmore following the game and he is pleased with the way the kids are coming together. He is concentrating on maintaining a very fast paced game and plans on going deep into his bench to maintain that speed. His kids really hit their shots too. I heard from a Hamline parent that Coach is really running the kids during practice. Coach told me he wants to wear other teams out.

I'll post a bunch of game pics over on Preps and audio with Coach Whitmore in the next hour or so.

Bethel's lone Senior starter Jeff Reck has missed the last two games due to a concussion he suffered last week.
