Pipes over SMU tonight.  What was the "T" incident for the Red Birds?

Not bad after that bus ride to Winona.
Is is March Madness yet?

Bethel beats Carleton 75-68 in OT tonight. The Royals actually clamped down and played some D in the second half and overtime to get this win.

BU was without Laugen, don't know if he's hurt or sick, but didn't play. Madson was absolutely on fire and put up an MVP-type performance tonight with 25 points. Hit every big shot in a key situation. Much and Flannery hit big 3s in overtime to provide some separation.

Carleton lived by the flex cut tonight, but it wasn't enough. Johnson had troubles finishing down low and had no chance trying to physically body up with Moberg. Moberg had 18, but I didn't think he was anything special until he asserted himself more in the second half. Didn't even look to post up early, and the one time he did, he turned it over.

If Bethel is the top team in the MIAC, our league is a bit weak this year, but they are a decent team when they want to be. Carleton couldn't get defensive stops in situations when they were absolutely essential tonight. The Knights also look like they haven't figured out an offensive identity yet other than getting Johnson in the post.

Looks like MAC tops the Tommies 72-70 on a bucket with 1.5 left. MAC is now the only undefeated team in conference play...how big of a surprise is this?

Is there something magical about a bus ride to winona?  or moorhead for that matter.  the only one that mattered to me was the long one coming home.

AO

is this the second game winning layup in a row for abe or am I getting the boxscores confused?  both games 72-70?  what are the odds?  and against two squads as different as St. Mary's and St. Thomas

Laugen has got a stress fracture in his foot and will be out until after Christmas Break. Good for Bethel that they only play one more game before that. This was a huge win for the Royals and gives them confidence heading into the break and I think they realize what it's going to take to win in the MIAC. The other guys are starting to realize the intensity that it takes and I think it only means good things for the Royals. Similar to last year Bethel started off the conference season very slow and then got it going after Christmas. I still expect us to be right at the top of the league and this win helps significantly in getting to where this team wants to go.

scHOTs win tonight, 72-70.

Tommies, who?

oAs.

You give a brother a halftime score, but no final!

Huge wins tonight for Hamline (Mary's has been a thorn in our past), Bethel (getting that first win), GAC (a big road win means they're good) and MAC (didn't forget them - are they for real!?)

I'm sure there was another great contest - STO/AUG?

tonight was a night that helps my argument for Steve Banick as maybe the best pg in the MIAC...someone said that a "true pg" is someone who quarterbacks their team to victory...well tonight back scored 14 of his 19 points in the second half to help the Oles erase an 11 point deficit...Banick's line for tonight...31 minutes, 19 points (5-10 from the floor overall, 3-4 from deep and 6-6 from the line...he also had 7 assists and only 2 turnovers...24 assists and only 10 turnovers overall for the Oles...solid game all around

btw...right now Abe is the only pg in the league who I would put up their with Banick...

another note from Si Melby Hall...not a spectacular shooting night for young Jon Cassens (7-18) but 20 points and 11 assists (only 2 turnovers) in 38 minutes...not bad either

BETHEL34

Ate at "The Tavern" and it was pretty tasty.  Strommy had the Rueben and he said it was pretty darn good.  I had the half pound burger and it was also quite tasty. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Great Win for Bethel tonight.  Just what they needed heading into the break.  Mike Much and Shane Flannery grew up a lot tonight and they both made some clutch shots down the stretch of regulation to help put that game into overtime.  Mike Much just might be the defender Bethel was looking for.  He did a great job of shutting down Drake in the latter part of the game.  Carleton had the ball with 13 secs left in regulation with the score tied.  Drake got the ball with about 7 secs left and Much was all over him playing great D and made him throw up a fade away air ball from around the 3 point line in the corner as the time pretty much ran out.  He also had 3 huge blocks in the second half on Drake and Johnson down low.  One coming in the final secs that lead to him scoring the tying bucket in transition off the block down low.  This type of play and this type of win can sure jumpstart a season for a young team. Timmy was the MVP he needs to be with 25 points on 7 of 13 shooting and 8 boards along with 3 assists.  Moberg could get a lay up anytime he wanted in the second half and finished with a solid 20pts and 12 rebs going 8 of13 from the floor.  He just needs to want more lay ups if you know what I mean. ;D

Johnson and Drake had an off night shooting due much to the part of an improved Bethel's D.  But they definitely missed some open shots early in the game that could have changed the tone of the whole night if some of them would have fallen.  I really like Carter Biewen from my Alma Madder Armstrong High School.  He has a great looking shot and a wicked quick release.  He is going to be a definite player over the next 4 years.

MAC is for real! Great win over the Tommies.  MAC shoots 64% in the first half and finish at 54% for the game?! :o :o  Where's the Tommie D?  Maybe the Two Headed Monster of Conboy and Abe are just that tough...Conboy 13 of 16 from the floor with 7 rebounds.  And he is shooting 46% from 3 point land on the year??  What can't this guy do this year so far?  Can they sustain this type of shooting for 17 + more games??

Really???? Bannick quarterbacks his team to their first miac victory and now he is the best point guard in the league????? c'mon d3baller.  Banick is a solid point guard but quarterbacking his team to its first win against the last place auggies......Not that impressive.

Man, this is going to be a topsy turvey year in the MIAC.  I don't know if there will actually be a TRUE upset considering all the teams seem to be close.  It will be a fun year.

Off subject, PI, how did you not like HOT FUZZ? Did you like Shaun of the Dead?
PI, great stats.  Go PIPES

MLP,

I gotta back up D3bball on Banick. He's a senior and he knows how to lead. He's one of the few PGs in the MIAC right now that I would have complete confidence in as far as not turning the ball over. For example, Sutherland didn't have his greatest game tonight and seemed a little out of control at times. His back-up, Kuhl, has the potential to be good in this league if he can figure out not to throw a bullet pass to a teammate from 5 feet away.

Banick makes smart decisions with the ball, doesn't make a lot of mistakes and scores when needed. Most importantly, he makes his teammates better even if it doesn't always result in a W. He's not the best in the league, but I'd like to have him on my team.

BET34,

The Tavern is solid. I have to admit I was a bit frustrated with Moberg in the first half. I heard all this talk about him on here and there wasn't much to show for it early. I really liked the fact that he got more assertive in the second half, did a good job sealing his defender and created easy baskets for himself. Plus, he grabbed or created a few offensive boards. He needs to work on having the killer instinct for 40 minutes, but he's a nice player that can create a lot of matchup problems.

Madson was amazing. Reminded me a lot of Eckhoff from Concordia back in 2003-04. A guard that can score in a variety of ways, and if you need a bucket in a clutch situation, you give him the ball.

Nice win for the Pipers, are they turning the corner? Tough loss for the Tommies, but nobody is perfect. It is shocking that MAC is undefeated. Couldn't be happier to see the Gusties beat SJU.
