Gusties win! Gusties win!

This should at least spare us the SJU football hacks stopping in with their banter for awhile. It's already stopped the Bennie posters.

Off to a work safety meeting now, more to come. Hopefully it will be more than learning how to sit at your desk correctly this time...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Some comments at this early juncture as we get ready to go to the Christmas break.

1) Who would have thought MAC would be atop the MIAC  :o  The funny thing is they're doing it by playing basically 7 guys.  When is an opponent going to try and slow down Abe and Mr. Conboy and make somebody else beat them?

3) Auggie is 0-6.  I feel for Coach Greiss.  4 of the 6 have been single digit defeats.  It looks like the big issue is perimeter shooting.  I mean 22.1% isn't going to win much of anything in any league.

1)  Ranwick has started to heat up from the outside (5-8 against St. Mary's, 3-4 against St. Thomas), and will continue to hit big shots when Conboy gets doubled or Abe finds him.

How about Eric Clute again last night vs. SMU.  In 29 minutes he scored 28 points on 10-13 shooting.  I think it's either him or Tyler Nicolai from UST in the lead for top MIAC freshmen.

POY front runners = Conboy, Madson, Brink, Z. Johnson (sounds familiar)  At this point it's hard to argue against Mr. Conboy.  He leads the league in scoring and is second in rebounding for the top team.

MIAC FY - Don't forget Schwartz who's averaging 16.4 ppg and is 3rd in the league in steals.

POY - Conboy's shooting is up dramatically from a year ago.  His FG% is up to .535 from .445, his 3pt. % is up to .458 from .213 and his FT%, an abysmal .404 a year ago, is now at .698.

I do recall a poster earlier in the year dismissing Conboy from any POY consideration because he didn't think anyone who shot a higher percentage from the field than from the foul line should be considered for POY.  I guess CB has corrected that discrepancy.

Now for Conboy's stats...17.4 points and 8 boards a game, but only 45% from the floor and 40% from the foul line! i don't think you can say that a guy who shoots a lower percentage from the line than from the field is a good overall player...38/64 assist to turnover ratio, also terrible...Conboy is a good MIAC post, but he would get eaten alive on the national level by guys like Troy Ruths from Wash U and Kevin Hopkins of Amherst

I'll let you break that bit of news to Shaq . . .. Conboy did shoot 63% from the line as a FY and 59% as a sophomore.  I suspect he developed a bit of a mental issue with free throws last year, and I'd be willing to bet that he worked on that quite a bit during the off season.  I wouldn't be surprised to see him shoot 60% or better from the line this year.

Yeah, but he plays in the MIAC...

Found it.  I'm not as adept at finding old posts as Drake.   :o  It was d3 commenting on Conboy's potential POY candidacy.  d3, now that his FT% is higher than his FG%, is Conboy worthy of consideration?    :-\  As Local pointed out, his team is in first place.

We'll see who withstands the rigors of the season, but we've got some pretty outstanding individuals this year.

Nites- Conboy has done nothing but good things so far this year, and if he keeps playing and shooting the way he has been, not just from the line, but from beyond the arc as well...and if Mac makes it to the MIAC playoffs, which is looking like a solid possibility...I would definitely give Conboy the nod for POY...now the season is far from over, but if the season ended to day he would get my vote for MIAC POY and definitely all-region as well...not sure about all-american yet

Carr did have a sick dunk against MAC.  But that was about it.

The kid has "Family" and "Respect" tatted down the back of his tri-ceps.  If he gave the latter, he'd get it, and wouldn't look like such a fool just having it inked in his skin.

Caveat:  The following post is strictly for entertainment purposes. It is also an attempt to keep the posting flame from flickering out from not enough "Clute the Flute," Abe, Top Cat, is the Golden Age of the Golden Gusties over and is Joe Scott of UST more interested in reviving his musical career – New Kids on the Block Part 2, than basketball?  ;D 8) ;D

who are schwartz and carr?  i don't have time to either search team websites or sift back through the d3posts.  appreciate the help.

also, there are tons of good freshman this year.  previously it seems almost a default award to hand out the all-freshmen team.  essentially whoever played more than 10 minutes a game gets a spot.  of course there were exceptions like linz, conboy, and johnson.  but, it has never been the case since i've been watching that there are this many legitimate contenders.  After Linz the next three highest scorers on concordia's roster are freshman!

i really want to see nicholai play.

Schwartz is Chris Schwartz, the 6'4" FY wing from Sioux Falls, SD who plays for the Johnnies.

Carr is Nick Carr the former or soon to be former Cardinal, the same being a 6'4" junior out of Minneapolis Washburn.  Apparently, he and the Redbird coach had a bit of a public disagreement during the last game.

Schwartz is averaging 33 minutes a game this year along with 16 ppg and 4 rpg.  He's shooting close to 60% on FG's as well.  He's a solid scorer and his bigger body allows him some leverage when he goes inside with the big boys.

The J's also have another freshman that seems to have flown under the radar thus far in the young season. Aaron Burtzel is averaging 10 ppg and 9.8 rpg in 34 mpg for the J's.
