Sum- they probably would've had to play p-i-g because otherwise they never would've finished... ;)

Yes, congrats indeed Sum on this noble 1500 post milestone of musings, reflections & general Seinfeld-esq nothingness!

Sir could most certainly shoot while sleeping...I remember seeing him and Bryan Schnettler in a gym together once...and let me just say, I have never seen such a tremendous display of shooting ability...

D3, that would have been an awesome game of long distance h-o-r-s-e! ;D

Yes, congrats on post 1500.

Yeah, and it would probably be a game like the one in the television commercial between, was it Bird and Jordan, where they were shown about a mile away calling it off buildings, etc.  That was a great commerical.

Sum, congrats on 1500...+K to you...tough game for the J's on Saturday...SCSU is very good, very athletic...might be able to make some noise in the in the final year of the NCC.  Johnnies have to get the bad taste of losing out of their mouths when they travel to Morris Wednesday night...not sure what kind of atmosphere will be found there...

I guess the Olaf-UST game shows what we all have been talking about: ; no game in conference will be easy this year...

Can anyone shed light on the Carr vs Trewick throwdown that happened mid-game?

Thanks

Drake Palmer

Voj, c'mon read the board.  ;D

The last unconfirmed rumor went something like this:

A little insight on the Pipes-Birds Game.  A inside source down at SMU told me about the "T" incident.  Looks Like Nick Carr went Foster on the Birds.  From what i was told he attempted to make an over head pass and was hit in the head and ended up turning the ball over.  The coach pulled him and told him not to throw passes from his hip.  Carr told the coach he was hit on the head and the coach said leave, get out of here.  So Carr went and sat down.  Then an assistant coach came over to him and said no, get dressed, leave the gym.  Upon hearing this news Carr proceeded to flip a chair, take off his jersey, and storm out of the gym.  I don't think they had a great player coach relationship.  Carr is a talent and i don't blame him for being frustrated with his coach, personally i think he should have transferred to HAMLINE.  Where him and Zev dunKujolic could throw oops to each other from half court.

Several days ago it was posted that Carr was reinstated.

News on Carr:  Suspended the next two games against Minnesota State Mankato and Chicago Loyola, but will be traveling with the team.  Word has it he apologized to the team...
---------------------------------
If I was you I'd be more concerned about the Johnnies & UM-Morris.  From the looks of it, the UM-Morris Cougars are doing some serious hooping right now. Could the Johnnies be the 3rd MIAC team to fall prey to the Bermuda triangle aka – Prairie Pothole??  ;D

AO could have a possible field with the likes of the Gusties, MAC, HAM, AUGS, STO & Carlies going up against some UMAC teams later on this month.  As we go into the Holiday break, gulp, our current league leader, Macalester is scheduled to go up against UMAC league favorite, Northwestern on the 29th.  It's a good thing I already called a spot on the bandwagon back in November.  ;)

In addition (check this out Prophet) those athletic & brawny young hoopers from Hamline will line up against NW on January 2nd.  :-*

Thanks all for the props on 1500 posts. Like Drake said I think that just means I had more general nothingness to report on than most.

VOJ, I read Frank's Blog and the story in the Daily Planet! Sounds like the good news was the J's were able to play some extra bodies any way! I was at the Morris game last year. I don't think the J's will have quite as easy a time of it this year! I hope Brady's ankle is ok! :(

That game kicks off some interesting matchups over the holidays. Tomorrow night the young Pipers go up to Duluth to play St. Scholastica. Should be another good measuirng stick on their progress.

On Wednesday you have the J's at Morris and Carleton at UW-LAX.

Saturday the 15th the Cobbers get another crack at the Dragons at Alex Nemzek.

12/29 League leading Macalester gets Northwestern and on 1/2 Hamline gets Northwestern.

Should be an interesting holiday season.

Geez Drake...sorry I missed that post, been a little busy with the holidays and all, the reason I asked for insight is because I have known Coach Trewick for a number of years and don't think he is confrontational at all...interesting that it went down that way during a game...

You are right the Johnnies have their work cut out for them this week, but I think they can win on the road there...some teams don't matchup well with others and I think the J's can exploit some things, we will see...

I think it would be great idea for a UMAC-MIAC Classic...at the Barn or Target Center, Drake you should be in charge of scheduling...

Just messing with you VOJ! +K.  ;) I also forgot to answer a question you asked me about a week ago.  You asked if I thought the Johnnies would have qualified for the playoffs last year under the new NCAA criteria for this season.  Based on the strength of last year's regional ranking - I would think yes.

now, im new to d3hoops, but so far i like what i see, and i am sorry for changing the subject.  I am a graduate of mac, but i now live in the winona area.  I graduated in the same class as Van Thore, i'm sure many of you remember him.

Anyways, i've been to all The SMU games down here, and a couple of MAC games.  So i've pretty much seen every team play so far, and this is going to be one crazy year.

Conboy: I'm glad he stopped being so soft.  He is tall and talented but doesn't use his strength like he should.

Abe: In MY opinion he is the best pg in the miac.  No one can hold him, and he passes the ball very well.  He could score as much as he wants.  When he decides that his team isn't getting it done, he takes it to another level.  2 game winning shots this year.

Drake Palmer: i read a post you had written about Zev Kujolic not playing, and i completely agree, he needs to be on the floor for hamline if they expect to keep this winning up.

SMU: whats the deal with these cardinals, they have plenty of talent between the 2 outstanding freshman Lukas Holland and Will Wright, and one of the most athletic players in the Confernce with Carr.  Is it something to do with coaching??? they always seem to be in the games but blow it in the 2nd half.  And why if Carr was named All-Tourny and is obviously one of their best players, does he get to sit on the bench for 3/4 of the game.

St. Thomas is over rated from what I've seen, they're playing well now, but i they're nothing compared to what they used to be

Augsburg was supposed to be a middle of the pack team this year and yet they're winless with the birds in last place.

Just curious to see what you guys think.

MiacLostProphet

Drake- you are correct, The Pesky Pipers play Northwestern, which if my memory serves me correctly they haven't beaten in nearly 4 years or so.  They are usually close games with Northwestern pulling it out.

dunKujolic has been riding pine lately.  he started the season strong and in their first home game started but didn't play much.  He was a main contributer pretty much up until conference play started.  The question is did dunKujolic play himself out of the line-up or did Luke "rain man" Johanson shoot his way into his?

Scots- st. thomas overrated?  They are 2nd in the conference, they beat winona, and right NOW, they are not overrated.  Whether the Tommies keep it up or not is a different story, but as of today you can't say they don't deserve what they've gotten.

Okay so I have been sitting back reading all of these posts about how great this Carr kid is. I have also seen the birds play some games and he has not impressed me all that much. YES, he is athletic but last time I checked, the game of basketball is about more than dunking. And enough about the all tournament team. Everyone does realize that every coach has to put one kid on the all tourney team right. Seeing as how SMU lost by 20 each game I am guessing that Coach Trewick had to pick the guy that played the best, even if that was not very good. And even if he did play well in the tournament, I checked the SMU box score and he is not even averaging 2 rpg. He is being out rebounded from kids like moses and barely has a higher avg. than Mario Allen and Mike Sweeney (all of which are perimeter players).

I agree that the birds are very talented but they are very young and I still think that they are a playoff team. Once they grow up and get that first win the MIAC better watch out!!

AO

--about cal poly vs. NAU--- I'd argue that Cal Poly has more of a minnesota connection than NAU as Matt Hanson from plymouth and Maranatha had 10 the other night against NAU on 4-5 from the field and unlike Schnettler and Sir can jump out of the gym.  Cal Poly also has a couple other mn bigs on the roster in thurow and manley and has received commitments from a couple more mn guys including Matt's brother David.   As a transition to talking about NWC and the UMAC vs. the MIAC, I might point out that relatives of the Hanson's and Sir's are a big reason NWC has had a lot of success lately.  Steve Sir's cousin Joe scored 1300 points while shooting 42% from three for his career, and Matt's younger brother's Dan and Steve are currently tearing it up for the current team.

I would say that the UMAC as a whole is a bit down this year, and has more parity within the conference.  Scholastica, Bethany and Morris lost their main weapons from last season, but are obviously still competitive.  Morris seems to be living up to last year's expectations this year.  If Fogt is back for the Morris game, he should be able to neutralize Phil Allen from Morris, but stranger things have happened as Moberg wasn't able to accomplish that.

My guys over at NWC are struggling to beat some of the worst teams in D3 right now.  We were losing to North Central at the half before starting to hit a few shots and win by 16, and the crown game was pretty close throughout.  Discher and Gonsior are out with injuries right now but could be playing by the Macalester game.  Let's just say that NWC should beat Macalester and Hamline on paper, but the way they're playing right now, they wouldn't.
