Drake - I've never heard or seen that name before. I'm getting old.

Hasse was a sophomore D2 transfer from Rockhurst in Kansa City.  He played ball at Mankato West and was on the Gustie roster for all of a week.

C'mon, you didn't know this? It's official - the golden age of the Gusties is over.  ;)

Hasse's the invisible 6th man the gusties will use as a secret weapon take the second half of the season by storm!! I managed to find a picture of Hasse from his senior prom.

Say, what's the latest on Fogt?  I understand he's not available for the game against Morris tonight, but is he still expected back by the first of the year, or the holiday tourney?

with very few games left before the break, I thought I might shed some light on some of the things that have happened so far this year...some we all know about and expected, and some we didn't...

Mac stands alone and the top, followed by Carleton and UST
Tom Conboy is the leading scorer in the conference at 26 ppg (also getting 9.9 boards a game)
Piper FY Eric Clute is averaging 16.6 ppg and has shot 50 FT's already (behind Madson's 66)
Ole PG Steve Banick has an insane A/TO ratio at 3.75 (60 A/ 16 TO)
SMU and Augsburg still are 0-for not only in conference play, but overall as well
18 of the league's top 30 scorers are non-seniors (6 FY's)
we've had 1 semi- Bobby Knight incident down in Winona
the MIAC's overall record this year is...38-43
all 3 teams on Snelling Ave. have 4 wins
the Lutherans are only 9-19...the Catholics feel a little better about themselves at 10-13

after we all open our presents we get to settle in for 2 months of would could prove to be the best conference race, with the most teams vying for supremecay, in the MIAC in recent history

not a bad summary, it's gonna be great in '08!

I don't know why people are so hung up on Fogt.  He is not that good.

to further add to the summary of the year thus far,

ONLY 4 conference games have been decided by double-digits, the average margin of victory is 6.65.  And part of that probably includes late game free throws.  again these are miac only games.

when you are playing only 5-7 guys an extra body helps, especially one that can get in and do some of the dirty work collecting some offensive boards, and establish something of a post presence to relieve pressure off the other guys.

Good or not, he's 6'9" and it will give the Johnnies 6 players to play instead of the 5 that are practically playing every minute now.

EDIT:  Whoops AS, I saw your response after I posted.  We're thinking along the same lines.

Fogt does have some solid post moves and can get the job done on the defensive end as well.  I don't think you've really seen what the guy is capable of the past couple years as he's been overshadowed by Schafer and whatnot.

That's true, SJU disparately needs bodies.  They looked absolutely terrible the other night in St Cloud.

d3bballfollower

ozzie- they did look awful, but I think we all have to remember that SCSU is currently ranked #8 in D2...outside of the UST/ Winona game, good D2 teams usually can make good D3 teams look mediocre

speaking of SJU...they stepped up big time tonight against Morris, clubbing them 81-65...Morris was up 42-35 at half, but SJU shalacked Morris in the 2nd, doubling them up 46-23...Sam Blank led the Johnnies with 19 on 7-7 from the floor, including 4-4 from 3 and 1-2 from the stripe...13 for Lieser and Brink and 11 for Schwartz...UMM was led my Will Jenson with 20 and Phil Allen with 19...great line for Aaron Burtzel tonight for SJU...didn't start, but had 4 points, 10 boards, 7 assists, 2 steals and 0 turnovers in 33 minutes...8 guys with double figure minutes for SJU

GAC slips by Bethany Lutheran tonight 88-76...game was tied at 41 at half...no box yet...

that's 4 in a row for the Gusties

Gusties beat Bethany Lutheran 88-76.  Wittwer with 25 points (19 in 2nd half) & 10 rebs.

Carlies beat UW-LAX 69-67 in OT.

not to get down on Conboy, who has been playing fabulous basketball, but if Wittwer continues to play the way he is he would get my vote for POY...tonight is a great example of senior leadership at its best...
