+k - nice photo Watch!

Say, what's the latest on Fogt?  I understand he's not available for the game against Morris tonight, but is he still expected back by the first of the year, or the holiday tourney?

I don't know why people are so hung up on Fogt.  He is not that good.

Hey Ozzie...what program do you coach?  Where did you play?  Why are you being a hater?

Here is what I saw last night when he played for the first time...a guy who can contribute many different ways...

+K to the fellas who made good points about Fogt, even AO...

Last night's win for the Johnnies was much needed with DI transfer laden UW-Whitewater up next in DePere at the St. Norbert Holiday tournament...Fogt played well, in fact I think the coaching staff got alot more out of him than I expected because they ran him in and out, because his conditioning is not all the way back yet, despite his paratrooper training in the SJU ROTC...at one point in time it was Leiser and four Frosh on the floor...kudos to the D played by the J's last night, it rallied them to the win

Drake - Can categories still be added to the post-season award presentations?
Consider adding, "Team Most Likely To Cause PDF"  (and that would be Public Display of Frustration, or "going Foster" as one poster called it.)

We've covered the Carr incident but there's another that flew under the radar this week.  A little bird told about the intentional foul that was called in the final minute of OT in the Saints / Pipers game.  HU had battled back from an ugly deficit to force the OT.  One of the Saints apparently earned the foul by pretty much throwing Piper Luke Anderson to the floor.  Anderson made one of the two free throws, the Pipes got the ball and came away with a close win.

Maybe this influenced the final outcome of a close game?  Maybe not, given the momentum at that point.  In any case the frustration couldn't be missed.  Let's hope he completes his upcoming anger management class.

The funny thing is that Anderson is the poster child for long & lean and a stiff wind could probably have the same effect...
I believe it was Zubke with the technical, which is somewhat odd as he is normally one of the more mild mannered scholastica players.  Probably a lot of emotion as he also passed the 1000 point mark earlier in the game.

It was the best thing possible that could have happened to the pipers as it was a 2 point game before the technical.   I sure hope Hamline hasn't found a replacement for Foster who might have incited Zubke.

Fogt is good.....

MiacLostProphet

Luke Anderson does not exist on the pipers roster.  There is Luke Johanson, and Tanner Anderson.  I am guessing you were talking about Johanson from the "stiff wind" comment as Tanner Anderson is a little bulkier.

Fogt is a big body.  He may not be an all-star on his own, but he is a guy that will help your team in little ways.  He has size, he plays good physical defense, he rebounds, and he can make easy shots inside.  He will definitely help the J's this season.

I have only seen Zubke play once before, but i didn't find him to be mild mannered in that game.  Maybe it was an off game but i recall him almost getting called for a T as well.

OK, Fogt is adequate at this level.

abominable_snowman

i think another thing about fogt is that the kid wears his heart on his sleeve.  Last year at the UST SJU game in St Paul there were times where he was carrying the men in red.  What impressed me about him was that he was running on heart alone, and that is always fun to watch.  It also does a helluva job inspring teamates.

Huge win for Carleton on the road last night. Very impressed with the win considering T-Bird was out with that nose injury. I was very happy to see Nwogwugwu step up in Drake's place.

I'm already looking forward to the January 5th title game at the Shoe. With 5 west region wins in the non-conference Carleton could have a shot at the tourney if they can do some conference damage in 2008.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Gusties beat Bethany Lutheran 88-76.  Wittwer with 25 points (19 in 2nd half) & 10 rebs.

And sporting a new 'do-- the Marine cut appears to be in vogue on the GAC team (No cornrows this year, for sure). Solid all-around game by TW, some lights-out shooting from Sivesind and nice stretches of "traditional" GAC defense ... all in all, a fun game to watch
I also noticed the "new look Wittwer" several weeks ago when the Gusties played Augsburg.  I think Tyler Kaus has also gone to the buzz cut.  In fact, at first I thought Wittwer was a no show for the Dawgs-Gusties game since I didn't spot the trademark, floppy haired Gustie #11.  Being the semi superstitious person that I am, I was beginning to think Wittwer's marine look was negatively impacting his level of play this year.  But whistle happy refs, & pressing a bit too much in the early part of his senior season had more to do with Wittwer's play, than a lack of hair. ;)

Speaking of hair, unless they get trimmed up over the holidays, the Gusties do have a couple of players that are absolute locks (pun intended) to make the All-MIAC (Bad) Hair Team aka Donald Trump Team.  And I think they know who they are.  If not, their teammates should do them a huge favor & let them know.  ::) ;D

Back to basketball,  ;D nice to see the Gusties win & keep the upstart UMAC in its place.  However, from the sounds of it,  little, quick guards may still be GAC's nemesis this year.  Before the Gusties made a halftime adjustment, Abe-like Tommy Saffert of BLC had scored 17 first half points & ended up with 22 total points.

Was Bethany supposed to win the game last night?  The game was at Gustavus-Gustavus is playing well right now, Bethany not as much--it was a bit of a surprise they were tied at the half--guess that speaks to the UMAC's power.  ;D

SUMMIT!!!!!

Saffert is Abe-like???  he's short, but that's about the only commonality....nowhere near as quick or athletic as Abe....half the leaper Abe is....but a decent player. I guess he might be the UMAC version of Abe  :-)
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

Saffert isn't as athletic, but he is a better passer and a more consistent shooter...he is more of a "true pg" than Abe is...

Simply trying to give the uninitiated reader a little perspective on the size of the two players.  Mebbe I should have said a poor man's Abe.   ::) ;D

Other than Justin Koslowski from Augsburg, who plays a 2G, how many 5-7 players do you even know who play basketball?  So, I'm suppose to compare him to Marko Jaric?  While I'm certainly partial to Abe, there are a lot of similiarities:  they're both 5-7, quick, good handles, streaky shooters, & average defenders.  ;)

AO- I have seen Zubke several times, mostly in his earlier years of basketball at P.R. Panthers!! During that time I remember more than one occassion in which Mr. Zubke got heated. He wasn't at the level of total hot head but he was not what I would call mild mannered. Hopefully he has matured and you're right about his new mild manner on the court. Overall Brady is a nice kid and pretty solid basketball player. He was very fun to watch in H.S. he threw down some nasty dunks at a few of the games I watched.

Fogt is big.

Yes he is PTPer, his diet consists of small children and massive amounts of TRIPLE BURGERS. (Note: Triple Burgers are in no way a performance inhancing substance. For more information on the Triple Burger please Private Messenge  - CMob)

I can't really remember Zubke getting upset in my years of playing against him (hs and college), but I guess I wouldn't be surprised if he started to talk.  Note that I said he was one of the more mild-mannered Scholastica players.   Their coach probably gets the most heated out of anybody in the gym on a nightly basis.

Would have been interesting to get another view of what happened.  What kind of ref makes a call like that in overtime that essentially ends the game.  He might have deserved it ghough, I don't know.
