Hope Santa was good to everyone!  ;) Here is a serving of +k to all on the MIAC board. Looking forward to the action resuming.

With the smorgasbord of High School tournaments around the State who is going to take in which games?

Or in the words of the old Houston Oilers football coach Bum Phillips, happy holidays to you & "your'n" Sum, & the rest of the board regulars, irregulars & lurkers.

I see the MIAC composite schedule had the SMU game vs. Chicago Loyola listed incorrectly.  The Birds actually play Loyola this Saturday the 29th, rather than the 22nd as was listed on the MIAC site.

The Gusties, Mac, & the Js also resume action this weekend.  GAC will play Springfield College & UMass- Boston on their 2-game road trip through Massachusetts.  One of the GAC backers will have to fill us in, but the coach at Springfield used to coach at Gustavus which I believe was the connection for getting these games scheduled.  From what I've read it seems Springfield might be the stronger of the two schools the Gusties will play.  Several weeks ago Springfield upset 25th ranked Rhode Island College.  That being said, both Springfield & UMass-Boston currently have sub .500 records.

The J's are going to have their hands full with UW-Whitewater.  If they can keep it close, it would be a moral victory.  From what I understand WW is a quick,  athletic team but don't shoot as well as lets' say - UW-Stevens Point

Back closer to home, the Scots - yawn, will have to carry the league banner in their game against the UMAC Northwestern Eagles on Saturday. Next. (Don't let AO read this, but actually this has the makings of a good game, along with NW's game against the upstart Pipes next week.)

Sum – I'll try to squeeze in as many high school tournament games as possible this week.  In a good year, I'll get to 4, possibly 5 tourney games, but between a  hectic work schedule & uneven team pairings, I doubt that will be the case this season.  In the metro area, IMO probably the best opening round pairings are Robbinsdale Cooper vs. Bloom. Kennedy at the Edina tourney, Cretin vs. Robbinsdale Armstrong at the UST tourney, & the curiosity factor of seeing the New Orleans school, St. Augustine, take on Holy Angels, also at UST.  There are other good teams in action Hopkins, Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, Tartan, St. Thomas Academy, Sibley etc. but their first round opponents don't appear to be that strong.

Pre-season picks now are compared to current MIAC standings...rankings based on total record (not just MIAC).   Hoops101010 leads the pack with 3 correct picks. YIKES.

I'm sure this will be completely different come January.

I hope that everyone had a very Merry Christmas!

Sounds like you will be quite busy this weekend Drake.  I too will be checking out some local high school hoops and I'm also going to venture over to the Target Center on Saturday night for the Bemidji State vs. North Dakota game.  A lot of Twin Cities kids will be represented and I'll also get to chat with some old friends.

Drake, let's have some faith in the C'ville boys...I am sure that both teams will be a little rusty coming off the break...I also hope that the J's get good production from the bench like they did against Morris the last time out...

VOJ, Safe travels! Sounds like the J's are going to need that bench against WW. On the surface, it sure appears like WW is going to be a handful for the J's. Athletic, up tempo and they shoot well. I don't think the J's can afford to get in a track meet with them.

I am a Mac prof and love watching the bball games (though I am away all winter). The two in December were amazing (StM and UST) and today seems much the same as Mac beat Northwestern by 1 point. ALmost a carbon copy of the other two games. NW is up by 1 with 8 secs left. Abe must have driven in the last two seconds as he was fouled and sank them both for the win. That's three straight games decided in the last two seconds, with Abe doing three different things: sinking the layup, dishing for the assist, and burying two free throws. I expect a trey at the buzzer next time.

I saw the Mac/NW game last year, when Mac played poorly and NW won easily....

Mac squeeks out another one today winning 83-82 over Northwestern...I guess we can finally put to rest the idea that the UMAC is up to par with the MIAC because this was the unanimous #1 in the UMAC against the current #1 in the MIAC...I wonder if Mac can keep this up the next 2 1/2 months...

If that was ever the idea, I feel bad for the MIAC faithful.  ::)

Old School- us MIAC faithful never thought the UMAC was on the same level...it was UMAC fans who tried to argue that point...and it was proven to be just as you and everyone else thought...useless
