SUMMIT!!!!!

Looks to me like the Cobbs are for real... lotta talent, and now motivation... and their future looks good, with all those nice freshies

Joltin' Joe Scott with a huge night....as the Auggie announcer said "Scott for an NBA three"... he also added 3 rimrattling dunks to go with his 4 threes, 3 steals and 24 points. I'm on his bandwagon, I think

UST commits just 7 TOs, forcing 25... HUGE factor in a nice win
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

Thanks for the hot tip on CON over GAC. +K to whoever said it would happen.

The Piper bandwagon has broken down. Any room on the Cobber?

No shame in losing what appears to have been a tough, hard fought game, but it's how the Gusties lost - 25 TOs & 39% FGA?? That's not typical of a Gustavus team.  The Cobbs looked good the other night, but not that good.  Go Yellow I guess.   ;)

Edit:  PI - you weren't kidding!  I just checked the Pickem board & I see you picked the Cobbs + 5.  Dang, gustsy pick!

It may be yellow, but they claim its gold... looking forward to seeing them again, just the same....the CM connection (2 from EVW & 2 from BUF) is a sweet sight

Mose - at the Pipes/Cobbs game the other night, a few Cobber fans were trying a weak cheer - "go yellow".

Gotcha.

I guess I might have to add Joe Scott to the post season poster awards as a member of the All-MIAC dunk team - 3 dunks in one game?  sweet!

Goooooooooooo Cobbers!

(wonder where they got that last part?!)

Thank goodness for Bethel finally winning, or Snelling Ave would be downright on a cold streak.

Options for Saturday: Moorhead, Winona, Northfield, St. Peter and Collegeville. Are you kidding MCKANE?! I'll be in the Cities, and not only do the Pipers have a bye, but there is no game at the five gyms within 10 minutes of where I'll be. COME ON!

It's TUBBY TIME!!!  ;)

Willy Wonka

Wow. Sad day to be a Gustie...and a LONG trip home.

On an unrelated note, does the name Joe Clemmons (not totally sure on the spelling) ring a bell with anyone? Thoughts or stories on his reffing capabilities?

He was a key cog in Red Wing's girls team setting a new national record in FT attempts with 72-75 (depending on who you talk to)...and he's one of a handful of HS refs around the state who isn't registered to be graded by coaches after each game. Just seems a little sketchy and figure this is as good a place to come for reaction as any...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

columbianmaffia

nice win for the knights toknight  :D

good to see they stepped it up...hopefully they can keep it up

ptper

good to hear the beholder of the goose neck was wearing his sundays best...gotta look good and feel good to be good baby

basketballlover

i dont think the key for the team to have success is for one player to try to step up but rather for them to come closer together, step it up together and play as a team...last year when FORK departed and the rest of the co-miac championship team returned it was very clear when they played together they were one of the top 3 teams in the league...but when players tried to do too much that was when things fell apart and they didnt look very good

on a side note...go gophers

PI its a long season stay true my friend...but I do have to say that the Cobber bandwagon seems to be gaining weight...Its good to see, surprising that GAC would commit so many turnovers, very uncharacteristic.

I witnessed one of the best performances I have ever seen in my 9 years of watching MIAC hoops last night as Abe W went off for 29 in the second half of a tough loss to the J's...it was a mix drives, pullup 3's and creativity that got Abe rolling, his quickness made the difference in a comeback from 12 down at the half, Tom Conboy was his steady self, but in the end the J's made the plays and hit their FT's to the tune of 24 of 28...

Summ...the Fogt/Conboy matchup never really materialized last night...

But Brad Panning was there and I didn't see any new glasses on him, he and the crew did a pretty good job, with one or two exceptions, J's wanted to see Abe called for carrying the ball but it never happened...

UST_LBOW

St. Thomas had a good defensive night forcing a lot of Auggie turnovers.  They locked up Cassens and he had noboby to go to.  Augsburg is lacking some players to help him out on the offensive side of the ball.  The game was never close even though St. Thomas couldn't quite pull away.

Scott had a real nice game scoring wise with 24 and even had 3 assists which increases his season total to 8.  Brett Tuma had a nice game off the bench as well.

Impressive win considering the Tommies were outrebounded by 17!!!!  The Tommies leading rebounder was Peltier with 3 in 8 minutes.  Nobody else had more than 2......WOW.  Good win for the Tommies, for some reason the Augsburg game is always tougher than it should be.

Also, word on the street is Ike is on his way back to the states.  He broke his hand earlier this year and missed some time and don't think he ever got off to a good start.  Evidently his coach doesn't speak any English and communication has been a problem.  I think he's going to try to catch on with another team.  Hopefully he finds a team.

concordia of the north

the next two games are big in terms of determining the cobber bandwagon's legitimacy.

I told the boys on the team that they were the best miac team i'd seen so far, and if they can muscle through bethel and UST they'll have positioned themselves to make that claim.  These are two teams that we usually play well.  winning at st. thomas would be a season defining game.
if you didn't foul out, you weren't trying hard enough...nancies

In spite of the Tommies success this season, I would still be somewhat concerned by their lack of success on the glass, and perhaps of greater concern, their lack of a consistent inside post presence.  Al McCoy has stepped it up on the offensive end the last couple games, and defensively, he's always pretty solid.  To me, the other Tommie post player, David Baker, has always had that "deer in the headlights" look about him and seems to play that way.  From what I've seen, he's got very nice skills, & every now & then seems to put his abilities on display.  But, he needs to develop more of that killer mentality to go along with his talent ala Bryan Rosett from Carleton.

In the meantime, this year's version of the Tommies continues to be a guard oriented team that happens to shoot the ball very well and defends very well. IMO, this team plays the best overall team defense of any team I've seen in the MIAC this year.  However, there are going to be nights when the outside shots aren't going to be falling & they'll need to be able to pound it inside.

Obviously, if they can continue their current trend, they'll be more than good, but if UST runs into a big, physical, & surprisingly quick team like the Cobbs, things could get real interesting.

I've attached a link to the article from the Fargo Forum on the GAC-COBBS Game last night, but in a quote from Coach Duane Siverson he even sounds surprised by this latest development:

However, the Cobbers frustrated Gustavus all night Wednesday with solid defense at every position.

Concordia held the Gusties to 39 percent shooting from the floor, 10 percent below the team's season average.

"I knew it would be this kind of game," said Cobbers coach Duane Siverson, whose team scored more than 90 points in each of its last two games. "We told them that it wasn't going to be like the last two games. We had a bit of nastiness on defense that I haven't seen in the last 10 years."

In addition, CORD had 13 steals to go along with the 25 forced & unforced TOs by the Gusties.

The hype machine begans:  ;)

If the Cobbs manage to get by Bethel on Saturday, the matchup with the Tommies next week could be V-E-R-Y interesting.  Fellas, this is a new look Cobber team.  I checked the stats & here's what I've found:
