oh drake sorry if i put that unclearly i didn't mean Cormier shouldn't be on the court and im sorry if that is indeed what i said, i just mean he should stop putting up so many shots like he does.  Especially tough, contested fade away shots when being double teamed.  I know the cards need the 6'6 senior, but i don't think it is in the way that old Danny Goldy Locks thinks they need him in.  He can get points with out forcing but it seems as though when he gets the ball he takes them out of their flow.  He is a good ball player, he just needs to realize he isn't the star of the team.  A freshman by the name of Wright is

A couple thoughts after watching the St. Mary's Bethel game yesterday

-St. Mary's has two very solid guards to build their program around in Holland and Wright.  Holland had a spectacular second half scoring in a variety of ways.  He could stand to put on a pound or two and when he does will be even tougher off the dribble.

-If St. Mary's played any defense for the first 10 minutes of the game the Royals might not should 80%.  That kind of shooting percentage is amazing even if no one is guarding you, but the lack of defensive intensity certainly helped create wide open looks.

-Bethel is finally finding a way to get the ball in to Moberg.  It's no coincidence that their winning streak has taken place with the integration of the big guy into the offense.  They still take a lot of threes, but the touches are there down low to getter better looks when teams sink down.

Willy Wonka

It's easy for Bethel guards to finally dump it down to the post when they're up 20. Can they do it in close games, as it appears they did against the Cobbers?

Their next few games should be interesting; after the Auggies, do they fall into the run-n-gun trap the undersized Pipers try to lay? Or maybe they drop one/both as they look ahead to the killer stretch of GAC, SJU, CAR and UST?

Until I see the post entry with any sort of consistency in Arden Hills, I'll trust their 10+ year track record of preferring to jack from the perimeter.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Nice to see GAC get some scoring from people not in their senior year. Really goes to show you that GAC might be a deep enough team to battle anyone, any night. It's nice when you don't have to rely on the same guy night in and night out.

Can't wait to see GAC play on Monday.
(Reporter interviewing Charles Barkley after and altercation where he threw a fan out of a bar window)

Reporter: Charles, is there anything about the incident you regret?

Sir Charles: Yeah, that we weren't on a higher floor.

The cold temps must be getting to me. Day 2 rant.. . . .

Edit:  Shades of Nick Carr at SMU?? Baron Zev returns to the Hamline & scores 5 points,  & grabs 4 boards in the game against the Jays.  What madness is taking place at Snelling & Hewitt?  Prophet  tell us what's happening.

Zev gets the work the system award.  Kudos for absolutely workin' Whitmore, who, in previous games managed to overlook him completely.  He went from riding pine to 21 minutes??  What kind of message does that send?

Meanwhile it looks like Smith's consistency pays off and he chalks up win # 680.

Is is March Madness yet?

I really like GAC right now 10-1 in their last 11 games. In that stretch they have had 5 different players lead them in scoring. As Shocker said its good to see them spread the ball around. They have great senior leadership in Sivesind, Wittwer, and Doble. If they can get more support from the supporting cast GAC could make a strong run at the league title. I think we will see what they are made of in their next 7 games. 4 versus CAR, BET, SJU, and UST but their other 3 are against MAC, AUG, and SMU. If they can go 5-2 or 6-1 they will be in the drivers seat.

Clarify for us WerFans.  what did you mean by this statement?  Did Baron file an appeal, meet with AD Dan O'Brien, have a Kyle Foster moment in practice & was temporarily relegated to the doghouse & returned, Whitmore changed his mind etc. etc.  Curious minds need to know.  ;)

Games for Monday 1/21:

Saint John's  @   St. Thomas
Macalester @  Hamline
Gustavus @ Carleton
Bethel  @ Augsburg

Now the season is starting to heat up & not a dog game in the bunch.

SJU @ UST: With playoff hopes on the line for both teams, Coach Fritz is going for victory 500 against one of UST's arch rivals - St. Johns.

Injuries could be a key factor in this game.  UST guard Tyler Nicolai played very few minutes in the 2nd half of the game against the Cobbs due to a leg injury, & Jason "Big Country" Fogt was a DNP against the Pipes yesterday.  The Tomcats can absorb the loss of Nicolai a little better than the Johnnies can handle the loss of Fogt.  A little birdie said this might be the end of the season for the Big Guy.  Any confirmations?

MAC- Hamline: Two slipping teams, desperately trying to hang on to their fading playoff hopes.

GAC @ CARL: The suddenly resurgent Gusties vs the ironmen of Carleton.  I caught the Carl-MAC game yesterday & Tommy Drake looked a bit like actor Jeremy Irons wearing a facemask in "The Man in the Iron Mask."

BET @AUGS: The rebirth of Bethel vs the surly Dawg pound.  If it's not too late in the season, Coach Griess is starting to assemble a talented assortment of  Dobes, pitbulls, greyhounds, Rottweilers & mutts for the kennel.  ;)

Will check the Hamline grapevine and post later.  For now the facts are no to all of the above.

However, funny that,  "Foster moment" should return to the board right now because it sounds like the afternoon in C'ville DID include one of those.  Was anybody there and can fill in the details?  It sounds like the SJU student section was like a bunch of sharks that smelled blood and they proceeded to help Whitmore get in touch with his inner Bobby Knight.  Was it a shout about throwing a chair or did one actually go flying?

I think at this point it looks like Gac is the team to beat and are 10-1 in there last eleven. Until someone beats them, they are in the driver seat. Obviously a lot of teams are right there, but nobody is hotter. Also, some of you have been a little surprised at Gac's success when wittwer doesn't play well, but this team may be the deepest in the miac, and that offensive system promotes balance and equality. Coach hanson has surounded wittwer with some very good shooters. Sievisind, Van Sickle, Kaus, and Schmidt can all stroke, so its kind of pick your poison because you can't cover everyone. Plus if there big guy paulson can play like he did last night, who knows how tough they can be.

Drake:  SJU is UST's "real" rival...to say anything else is IMO wrong...its like brother vs brother, but it is still a rivalry...maybe Gustavus because of their success on the hardwood, but when you get down to it...Johnnie-Tommie is the top rivalry in the conference...

I was asked about Fogt, he did not play yesterday, Frank has written he might be done for the year, another MRI is scheduled for Monday.

So Coach Fritz is looking for win number 500...hope it does not come tomorrow night...good motivation for the J's no doubt

Coach Whitmore did not have a good afternoon in his first visit to Collegeville, he was on the officials a little bit, but there were foul calls missed both ways, I didn't see him throw a chair, or anything like that, but I have only two eyes and have to keep them on the ball (and the missed calls ;D)...in fact three times a Johnnie came away leaking blood after a drive or put back on the offensive end...guess how many fouls were called on those three incidents???  thats right 0, and no the Asian Sensation was not reffing, I am sure he will be at the UST/SJU game tomorrow night...

its great to see the board come alive...+K all around!
