Good...I got the response I was looking for.

I agree, Bethel has to have a great rest of the year (which I think they will), and finish in the top 3 (I would argue top 4) for TM to get MVP!

This is for the sole purposes of a Brink vs. Madson debate:

You want to talk playoffs...

Brink's numbers in last year's two playoff losses (@ UST & @ Steven's Point)

32 Brady Brink.........    0-4    0-1    2-2    1  3  4   2   2  1  1  0  0  19

32 Brady Brink.........    1-4    1-2    4-4    2  3  5   4   7  1  2  0  1  24

Not exactly stellar!!

Anyway, I respect the SCOREBOARD comment.  That would be a huge win for Bethel in the second half (on the road vs. SJU)...and I will check back with you after they win that one.

Right now they just need to focus on the Pipers (who stole one from them at the beginning of the year)

I agree,  I do need some help on this board...at least one other person...a wingman!

It is good to be a Royal!

Drake Palmer

And it keeps sucking me back in..

First Mose, now CON, I love it.  That's some serious hellfire & brimstone you slinging there CON. May I excerpt this for next week's issue of Ecumenical Hoops? +k

Mose was doing great until he threw Viau into the mix.   I think the kid is great & was singing his praises long before Mose, but he's not a league MVPer. He's a definite All Defense team.

Wittwer:

1st in fga/fgm,  fta/ftm,  pts 244 and average 15.3, rebs and average 111/6.9, stls 1.2,   off and def boards 2.5/4.4, blocks 1.1

3rd in fg%, 1st in fga/fgm, 6th in ft% at 70%, 4th in asts 1.9,

so leading his team in field goals and FT's made/attempted, points and average, rebounds and average, steals, and blocks.  not bad.

Linz:

1st in fg%, fga/fgm, fta/ftm, pts and average 272/17, rebs and average 105/6.6, blocked shots 1.1,

7th in ft% at 71, 2nd in assists 2.3, 2nd in steals 1.1

so leading his team in field goals and FT's made/attempted, field goal percentage, points (total and average), rebounds (total and average), and blocks.

double post coming...this was the content, next is the commentary.

for me, personally, this is the race right now: wittwer and linz.  the breakdown of their contributions to the team is almost identical! linz has scored a little more, wittwer has 6 more rebounds, linz has 6 more assists, steals are 1 apart, blocks are identical, and their fg and ft % are right on the money.

they are having very similar years, VERY similar.  so the pertinent question is, which of these two teams could lose their star to a shattered femur and still even be above .500? which of these teams requires the presence of their stud more earnestly?

i think the answer is obvious.

also, concordia beat GAC head to head.  if the cobbers can repeat that, i think it is a big arrow in their quiver.

SUMMIT!!!!!

I threw Viau in mainly because, as co-leader, UST should have someone considered, and in the Tommie games I've seen, he has impressed me as their MVP (along with Scott), but I agree there isn't much of a case for him as the league MVP at this point.

But if I was building a team from scratch, I'd sure love to have him on the floor for me!

Which brings to mind the idea of a MIAC All-Star game...

If you split the league North/South,using I94:
North: Cord, SJU, BU, Augs, Ham
South: SMU, GAC, Olaf, Car, UST, Mac

If you pitted Metro vs non-Metro:
Metro: Augs, Beth, Ham, Mac, UST
non-M: Car, Cord, GAC, SJU, SMU, Olaf

The rosters would be interesting, and the game enteraining (which means its probably not kosher with the NCAA)
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

I think Wittwer is the MVP right now but that could change. There is plenty of basketball left.

Last night CAR showed some serious resilience to come back from a 8 point half time deficit to win big. Tommy Drake came out firing in the second half hitting four 3-pointers in 10 minutes. Zorro finishes with an MVP type performance with 20p/13r/6a going 7-12 from the floor. The only downside about the game was how all the Carleton starters were in with 1 minute left...Kalland calls a timeout after Johnson's first free throw. Auggie subs were already in and instead of clearing the bench everyone remains in...relax coach, no one overcomes 16 points in a minute. I'm not sure if he was upset with his bench guys or if he just wanted to be able to say the starting 5 played the whole 2nd half. Whatever it was, it was not the right move.

mm: i feel like we've talked about that idea before.  i can't imagine anything more fun than a conference all-star game. i'm sure the players would love mixing with former nemeses, as well.

You can do that, so long as the players are seniors who are out of eligibility.

The USAC and ODAC square off against each other in a senior All-Star game, as do the NJAC and Skyline.

why don't you make some calls, Pat?

wouldn't you like to see brink, linz, wittwer, drake, and banick take on the metro?

I cant even think of a starting five for the metro--- femi, abe, conboy.....and??? Since the NCAA limits rule out anyone with eligibility left, that would mean no Madson, Moberg, Thrasher, Clute, Cassens or any of UST's first 8.

but yeah, it would be an awesome game

ditto miac vs iiac or wiac

Not my job to do the MIAC's job. :)

i hear ya on the 16pt lead however i once played in a game when we were down 10 with 56 seconds left in the game and we came back and one by 1 in regulation...anything is possible but at the same time it is extremely highly unlikely and if a surge did come he could throw them back in the game.  so i agree with you but it doesnt bother me very much that he left them in

what is the time table on sutherland? will he be back anytime this year?

I know its possible, but the Auggie subs were put in at two minutes and did not appear to be concerned with winning as much as running the offense. I heard it might have something to do with a past game where the subs came in and CAR wound up losing. In an 18 point win where the starters played 37,36,39,39, and 38 minutes it just gets to the point where they should rest. With a tough game coming up this Saturday in Moorhead it will be intriguing to see how CAR does.

As far as Sutherland goes, I'm not really sure. They are optimistic he is returning this season. If he does come back it will be the middle of February, so the PT that Weishdeshel is getting should help Carleton's chances come playoff time. Carleton is playing some good basketball right now, albeit depending heavily on the 'Iron Five.'

watch:

Pat Coleman said all-star games are legal if all the participants are outgoing seniors with no eligibility left.  he referenced a couple extant traditions in this vein around the country.  peek back just a couple posts.
