Willy Wonka

Wow. This sounds like it could blow the situation in Winona out of the water, assuming these new posters aren't just blowing smoke. VOJ appears to have sacrificed his professional duty to maintain his relationships, so that means it's time for Frankie to take off that goofy hat and do some serious reporting for us :)

Weird that Isetts would be the best player on JV for two straight years and not even get a sniff of varsity clock yet, but this could be his big chance. He certainly seems to have performed well last time out with 10 and 4, including two bombs.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

WW- The kid definetly has a ton of talent and a great offensive game. He really uses his body well to create shots. However, on defense he is suspect at times. I think the coaches have seen what he can do on offense but have been won't put him in because he can be a defensive liability at times. I think Cole is a great kid and I'm happy he is finally getting a chance to play after sitting quietly on JV for two years. It's just to bad this is what it took for him to see the court  :(

I'd be surprised if that's the whole truth in the Lieser situation. VOJ appeared to know the whole deal before he sat, but couldn't/wouldn't/shouldn't post any details when pressed for details. Then, he seemed to jump on the "easy" explanation very quick, as if to push it under the rug as a done deal.

I hope the truth does come out I also hope the SJU admin doesnt just sweep it under the rug. The kid thinks he can get away with anything. He ignored the issue and its his fault it has come to a head.

That is a pretty big accusation Insider...I hope you can back that up...

Wonka...as I mentioned to you in a message I wrote to you, after the first shot you took at me on these boards, I was asked not to talk about the issue regarding Lieser by Jim Smith and being that I value my relationship with the coach and team I did not speak on it until they did in the newspaper.

Because you have not been in the business for very long let me tell you something it's better to preserve the relationships than burn the bridge that you have built, I am sure you would do the same if your former coach or someone involved with the program had asked the same of you in a similiar situation, or would you?

The bottom line here is you have a student-athlete who has got an issue that is keeping him off the court, he is trying to get it straightened out and get back with the team, if you want to keep chastizing him and hanging him in effigy be my guest, whats next?  Are you going to steal candy from babies and mug old ladies?  Get a grip Willy

Amazing how you all can get wrapped up in a kids struggles, guess you don't have enough going on in your own lives, by the way when are we going to parade your life out here on the boards Willy?

Actually, there are some pretty rigid right to privacy issues involved with the disclosure of academic matters involving students so coaches and administration officials need to be very careful.  If Coach Smith mentioned something that maybe he shouldn't have, why potentially get him in trouble by blabbing it everywhere?

Personally, I've read enough on Wonka's life on the football boards. The mountain dews, the late night Madden games and of course the one night stands with Frank Rickard.

Let's wait for it to break. Until then, find something else to talk about.

PI – I especially like the last part – the one night stands.  ;)

VOJ- here's a little unsolicited word of advice.  On these message boards if you don't want to talk about something, don't respond to it.  At this point you're viewed as one of the few Johnnie posters who might have inside information on the Lieser situation.  If you never rise to the bait, people get tired of asking and move along.

Case in point:  2-3 times last fall & early winter I tried to get information from Willy Wonka & other Gustie backers about the sophomore transfer Chris Hasse – his original incoming transfer, exit, return & final exit.  I never did receive a suitable explanation from anyone, so I quit asking & moved along.  I took small consolation in knowing one reason Willy never responded was  - he flat out, just didn't know what was going on.  :D

But yes, there is a degree of - if there's blood in the water, us posters want to know what's going on.  Conversely, if it's blood from one of our "own", right or wrong, we tend to close ranks & only release information that we want to disclose.

Speaking of disclosures, Nites is correct – to the bane of college students' parents everywhere, there's a federal law called "FERPA" – Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act" which places restrictions on how a college student's information is disclosed.  That would be grades, credits completed, or not completed, contact information, medical history etc.  There is also what's called a "NCAA Student Athlete Statement" that all student athletes must sign which authorizes instructors to release information about their academic performance to academic representatives of the Athletic Department. The delicate balance that must be struck is how the school and representatives of the school – Registrar's office, athletic department, coaches etc. are allowed to release information to the public.

So what am I saying?

I'm fairly sure there's some good spin, backpedaling, smoke, behind the screen maneuverings, appeals, and research going on trying to rectify this situation.  And this situation goes beyond the issue of credits being improperly assigned or not assigned.  At the crux of this situation - was the student making satisfactory progress toward the completion of academic requirements, or was he doing what we use to call it back in the day – "skating"? If he was skating, his inaction/actions could have larger repercussions.

So in the words of PI – I'll sit back and wait to see what breaks.

SMU anyone?  Or, I saw a piece on the local sports the other day when Tubby Smith was dishing up burritos and signing autographs at Chipotle.  CMob - was that you on the screen? ;D

DP, Sound advice on posting protocol! Thanks for the refresher course.

Whatever, the outcome is, I am quite sure Mr. Lieser was not the first, nor will he be the last, college student to think that by ignoring a problem it will go away! ;)

Here we go #1 shoe of all-time.

Now that's sweet.  The shoe ok, the special effects - outstanding. +k when time permits.

If this continues we'll chug up some bandwidth real quick   ;D

The old Reebok pumps were sweet too!  Or at least it was great marketing ploy!

Edit:  Denbows' Roomie is signed back in! This must be homecoming month on the board - first Shocker, Sju4Life, Kel Varnsen & now Denbow.  Next we'll see exmacQB or something.  And there's really nothing to celebrate either.  Well, good to see everyone!
