Completely agree....he is third in scoring and not only that, but he can defend and rebound.  One of the things I love about the way he plays is how he pushes the ball up the floor and gets to the hoop.  He is the best freshman, but I don't know if he'll get it due to the cards poor record.

P.s. I'm still waiting for a congrats on my 100th post.....anyone?  ;D

Niiiiiiice... but 200 posts indicates you might be around for awhile.  ;) +K

An article about the Cormier situation that was published in the Winona Daily News.  Figured I'd post it and see what everyone thinks.

An interesting piece, skibbity. Thanks for sharing.

The news that a senior two-time captain is no longer with a collegiate team — no matter the circumstances — is certainly newsworthy. The fact that Hess was only able to get one side of the story is unfortunate; Trewick and the AD did themselves no favors by declining comment, opening it up to speculation and allowing Cormier to present his "truth" to the public unchallenged.

I've got to imagine Trewick explained the situation in explicit detail with numerous examples to gain Fennern's full support, but that hardly answers any outsider's questions.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Last night, BU looked like they could compete with the best of the MIAC, but GAC just shut them down. BU obviously was used to scoring more points. Can't give you for-sure stats, but it seemed like when BU scored less than 65 points, they always seem to lose.

True, BU looked tougher than usual, but still have a ways to go in that department.

Sir Charles: Yeah, that we weren't on a higher floor.

Interesting article from Winona...obviously given last nights performance they have not thrown in the towel on the season...

As for Freshman of the year...Chris Schwartz may not have the scoring average but check out the total package...Wright is very impressive though has had some great games trying to carry the Cards

Carleton fought hard last night, might be tough for them to get it back up for the Tommies who visit on Saturday...Sutherland due back next week, won't play Monday but maybe on Saturday after the bye on Wednesday for the Knights.

I keep trying to watch Sportscenter for college basketball, but it keeps getting hijacked by Super Bowl coverage featuring Stuart Scott, who I still am questioning about how he remains employed at ESPN.

Can I get anyone else's opinion on who is the worst Sportcenter anchor?

Oh, and one more thing that I remembered. When I was playing high school basketball in the frigid north of the Iron Range, there was a kid who had a Jordan symbol tattoo, complete with the number 23 over it. It was ridiculous. When I went back up north to play in a summer tournament, I saw him again, and the tat had been changed to some kind of animal. It was a very interesting cover-up job.

Two pivotal sequences in the game:  With one minute left in the first half, GAC is nursing a 5 pt lead at 32-27.  Jesse Van Sickle misses a 3, Royals rebound the ball & try to set up for one solid possession.  Moberg slips free from his man, gets the pass, & is wide open, going in for a big momentum changing dunk.  His pivot foot slips & he gets called for a travel.  Gustavus gets the ball back with 0:37 sec., patiently runs down the clock & Robbie Schmidt nails a trey.  So instead of the Royals being down by 3 points, they trail by 8 pts, 35-27

That sequence was huge...Bethel had the ball with 1 min left...I would have liked to have seen them go for a two-for-one.  It was the perfect time to do it!!  Instead they get a traveling call with 34 seconds left and then give up a three on the other end!  I think it really took the wind out of the BU sails...

Paulson played great!  He could be really good in the next couple of years.  He gave up a few early points to Moberg...but he kept playing hard, and actually out-played him in the second half.  Sidenote:  the kid looks like he could grow a few inches by the way he walks/runs...that would be scary!

Bethel needs to take a few lessons from the Gustavus offense (it is structured and they get the ball in the exact spots they want it)!!  Bethel has too many guys running into each other, and pretty much "getting in Moberg's way." If you are going to run by him at least give him a nice pick to get him open on the LEFT BLOCK!  80% of the time Moberg catches it on the right block  ???  Bethel should play a triangle offense with Moberg, Madson, and Laugen on the left side of the court...with two shooters/"role players" on the back-side.   Moberg is good enough to either score from there or give a nice kick-out pass to a shooter.  Madson can then also drive with his right hand...spin back...go all the way...or kick it to a shooter.  All of the Gustavus "role players" (Van Sickle, Sivesand, and Schmidtsksanfedtkd) get open (feet-set) jumpers off of the pass.  Bethel guys are trying to create off the dribble...and they are not good enough to do it!  This, along with how many "good" touches Moberg can get, will be the key's to how far Bethel goes in the playoffs.

Gustavus played great D...how did that same team give up 42 points to the Dawgs in one half.  It just shows that you get "jacked up" to play some MIAC teams more than others!!

Bethel played good D for the last 5 min of the game.

Whittwer played a nice game even though he was in foul trouble!

Maybe the kid in the front row wouldn't have been so noticeable if it wasn't so quite in that darn Robertson Center.  You would swear a funeral is going on!  That doesn't create much of a home court advantage.  The most noticeable fans were the Gustavus parents doing the wave!  It looked terrible...but you have got to give them credit for trying to build an atmosphere!

It is still good to be a Royal!!

Nice win for the Johnnies last night. Props to Carleton for their video feed, It was fun "watching" the game.

The J's were fortunate to escape with a win. Carleton was fortunate to even be in the game! Johnnies opened up a 10+ point lead mid way through the second half. They did a real nice job of working the ball around and finding the open man. They got their large lead and promptly started to try and run clock on each possesion.

Knights shot 30 FT's to the J's 11. Looked like the J's did a lot of reaching on defense and not moving their feet.

Tommy Drake banks in a 3 pointer from the wing with 8 second to go to tie the game. Chris Schwartz trips bringing the ball upcourt after that and turns the ball over.

J's have a 4 point lead when Brady Brink fouls out in OT with 1:33 left. With 41 seconds left the J's are down 1 and I figured it was game over. J's take a time out with :19 seconds left. Run a god awful in bounds play and settle for a Lieser missed NBA 3 with :12. Schwartz misses the foul up shot and in the ensuing scrum the J's come up with the ball. They take a TO with :05 sec. This time they set up an inbounds play and get Lieser a contested lay-up. Carleton fails to get a shot off to end the game.

Isetts got 18 minutes went 3-3. Certainly did not look out of place.

SUMMIT!!!!!

fun game at Hutton last night. Ham looked good. I especially liked the play of their posts (Hipp was dominant at times, but made a few froshy mistakes). As noted, UST plays great team ball with everyone knowing his role and its importance. Excellent atmosphere, unlike what it sounds like was the case at BU. Even the officiating was solid! Joe Soctt was on fire, particularly first half. Both teams shot over 60% that half, colling down to 50% on the night.

After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

NavyBU- you're right.  In spite of the occasional flak the Gusties get on the board, they run a solid program & a coach wouldn't go wrong trying to emulate many of the things they teach.   Perhaps the biggest criticism of the BU program over the years is that their system requires their players to be great 1x1 players to score.  That's why I was encouraged to see the interior screening going on with Moberg last night.  Now if they could just add a little crisper ball movement on the wings, & more screening on down screens & the like,  they wouldn't have to rely so heavily upon the considerable individual talents of Tim Madson.

Sum...good recap, but here is the one thing that really surprised me about the end of that game...Johnson coming down to the top of the key and I thought he had a pretty open look, he went up and then passed it off, I thought for sure he was going to take the J...Carleton certainly did not get the look they were hoping for, I thought they would try to run something for Drake, who had hit two clutch 3's earlier in the game.

That foul call on Brink was not legit, he had slapped the ball away 5 times previously on the same move and not gotten called for it.   Johnson is a pretty effective player posting up, he is good at using his right elbow/shoulder to hook the defender without making it obvious
