Speaking of love, why no love for Carleton in the Knights-Bethel matchup tonight? On the Pickem board I don't think I've seen a single person pick Carleton.  (Jedi mind tricks -  ::)  ;D)

Interesting stat for you, Drake.  Carleton is 10-1 on the road this year (only 3-5 at home) with their only loss coming against the Tommies at the Shoe.

Another tidbit -  The Cobbers outrebounded the Scots 38-18 on Saturday. TCon pulled in 9 of the 18 and the next highest rebound total on the team was 2. They miss your man Trey.

PTPer,

Carleton definitely needs a more productive PG than Weischedel, but there's a pretty clear reason why he struggled on Saturday. UST's guards picked up on defense immediately following the inbounds pass from the baseline. It wasn't a press, but Weischedel and whoever else brought the ball up had a defender in their mug the whole way down the floor. You can get awfully tired and frustrated quickly with that D and commit turnovers or fail to get in your offense. The Tommies did that the whole game, and got the steal and a bucket for it when they needed it to stretch the lead in the second half.

I don't know that I've seen that a lot out of Fritz's teams, but that was fun to watch. Scott also deserves some props, he wasn't hesitant to take tough shots despite a slow start, including an airball that got Carleton students riled up.

The MIAC is down as a whole this year, not even worth debating. They'll get probably only one team in, and whoever that team is will probably be 1-and-done. I would love to be wrong, but no team this year that I've seen has impressed me for a full 40 minutes.

Drake - I'm trying to bring some love from Northfield, just the other side of the river.

TH4L – I would agree that UST's full court pressure had a big part in the 10 second violations and general disruption of CARs offense, but I was just commenting on how Weishdeshel didn't have any real sense of urgency to get the ball past the timeline. Tommie D is tough, that just goes without saying. Carleton game summary said that CAR had a season-high 20 TOs on Saturday, but this is in fact 2nd to the 24 they committed at the Shoe...definitely caused by the UST defense...but also a lack of ball handlers. (Sutherland missed last game and the 2nd half of the first meeting.)

GoBU – Arden Hills is a tough place to ball at as the court has an empty feel at times and always seems to be chilly. However, I have been there when it's rocking for some Christmas tournament games. It's definitely a shooters court, but I guarantee CAR doesn't lose by double digits, and fully expect them to give Bethel everything they can handle. I'm sure the Knights are anxious to get their revenge from the OT loss awhile back.

c-mob- Did you see Rosett get his goose loose on his 3-pointer last game? BEWARE OF THE GEESE!

Nites – Here's a few more stats for you. I did a little research over lunch & I was surprised by what I discovered. Of the 10 Carleton road wins, only 2 of those wins came against teams with winning records – SJU & Concordia.  UW-LAX is currently a push at 10-10.

Digging a little further --since the semi-infamous barroom brawl that took place nearly a month ago at the "Shoe" when the Goose lost one of his choppers, and Jeremy Sutherland broke his hand, the Knights are 5-5. On the road they're 3-1 but only one of those wins was against a team with a winning record.  That was the win in Moorhead when they beat the Cobbs 64-62.

Instead of food for thought, more corn for the geese to digest - I guess.

Doesn't do much good to whine about injuries being caused by non-called fouls. Like CMafia said, injuries are a part of any sport, they just get more exposed when you're not deep to begin with. Sutherland's injury really hurts when you consider Kuhl is no longer with the team. Who's gonna play PG?

TH4L,

I agree with you on the Sutherland injury.  I thought he was the real key to the season.   He has been the only one able to effectively orchestrate their offense.  With his size and quickness he could shoot over guys and beat them off the dribble.  As a result, he created opportunities for his teamates.  I thought Carleton dropped off noticably when Kuhl came into the game.  While he didn't turn the ball over much, the Knights offense wasn't as smooth.  Kuhl couldn't take his man off the dribble and he wasn't much of a shooter.  Now, they don't even have him.  What unfortunate circumstances to a very promising season.

Drake - My thoughts on the Knights when Sutherland went down.   I must admit, however, that they have performed better than I thought they would.  The youngster starting now has done quite well.  The Tommies are just tough all the way around.  Because they are so deep, they can throw full court man-to-man defense at you.  Eventually, with all of the fresh troops coming at you, you start making mistakes.

Poor travel conditions, it's 81 degrees out!  Oh, never mind, y'all are a little colder up there in the hinterlands.
