SUMMIT!!!!!

With one more win or one SJU loss, UST locks up a top 4 finish. Should UST win tonight & Sat and GAC lose to SMU (as well as to UST), then UST wraps up the top spot. If GAC beats SMU but loses to UST, one more UST win or GAC loss wraps up 1st place for UST.

Tonight is do-or-die for Olaf and Augs, IMO... even if they both win tonight, they are probably going to have to win out to make the playoffs, unless at least one of SJU/BU/Car/Cord collapses like the 2007 Mets.

Sat DH-- GAC@UST, Cord@BU--- playoff-like games worth the time/travel
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

Sum - I like  the Cobbs, but it's not going to be a cakewalk for them to go 3-3. I'm thinking more like 2-4. Tonight's game against the Pipes they should be ok, but then they've got that goofy schedule when they play @ Bethel 6:00 Saturday night, play @ GAC on Monday night, then turnaround & drive back to the Cities to play Augsburg a week from this Saturday. Finally two weeks from now they're back home to close out the regular season against UST & SMU.  I'm still waiting to hear from someone why the Cobbs games were scheduled like this.

IMO, Carleton has got the 2nd easiest schedule behind Bethel & I could see them going 4-1 and sneaking at 12-8 as well.

DP, CORD wins the two home games they should (HAM,SMU) I say they get one out of the following 4 @BET,@GAC,@AUG or UST at home. Call it the retiring Severson factor. ;)

Sum- No your eyes are going on you.  joking.  Yup I did see below:

LC - you might want to put a column heading over your league standings.  I initially thought you were listing the current league records along with projected league finishes.

(I was busting his chops a bit because I thought he was trying to project the final conference records when actually he was showing current, overall team records. I misread, & he needed to clarify his standings.)

I can't say I know much about Aaron Barmore from Bloom. Jeff.  His name is vaguely familiar from last year when I saw Jefferson play in the sectionals.  If I recall, he was the only decent outside shooting threat that Jefferson had. Jefferson had another kid - Jon May (?) go to Lawrence over in Wisconsin (?).  Looks like assistant Jays' coach Matt Ohme has been busy working the old high school pipeline.

i believe barmore is the 2nd leading scorer in the Lake Conf right now behind terrell clark...barmore can play some mean D as well...atleast the times i watched him he played great D

Speaking of the Lake Conference, nice win by your Rosemount Irish over Eden Prairie earlier this week.  I saw the Gustie alum coached, David Flom's Eden Prairie team demolish an ok Burnsville a few weeks ago.  I would hope MIAC coaches are keeping an eye on some of the players from EP.  They've got some high flying, nice junior talent - the Wragge kid & others.

Terell Clark would be an awesome offensive talent if he ever developed a J.

Drake -

When the Cobbers have road games near the cities (not SJU) on a Saturday/Monday...they combine the trip into one.  Bethel agreed to play them at 6:00 on Saturday versus the traditional 3:00 time to shorten their trip some.  They will then stay somewhere in the cities on Saturday and Sunday night and travel to GAC for the Monday game.  Basically it just saves them two trips.

That is sure nice of Bethel to accomodate them...The Baptists are giving the Lutherans a true lesson on how to freely give of themselves with nothing in return (very Christ-like!) Let's hope those Lutherans learn from this experience and run with it  ;)

BU – thanks for the explanation.

I'll be listening with great interest tonight to see if the Baptists' gracious spirit of charity and generosity will be offered to the Catholics of UST as well. And you are right, charity does begin at home.  :-*

+k for the Johnnie posters.  After a day of bereavement & licking their wounds, the Johnnie posters come out firing after the dogfight in the valley of the Green Giant.  I hope the Gusties let you take back some surplus Green Giant frozen corn nibblets, or sweet peas for your efforts. Glad to see you guys return.

VOJ – The Js & Knights game 2 was a good one, but was probably more exciting due to the suspense & intrigue surrounding Mr. Lieser's uncertain return to the hardwoods.  Due to their style of play, every game with the Carlies seems to be a struggle.  For example, I saw the OT win by Bethel over Carleton & personally, I wouldn't rate it ahead of any of the previous games I mentioned earlier.  A struggle - yes, entertaining - yes, a "THRILLA" - not so sure. ;)

Dang Sum – with all this knowledge you're dropping, we'll have to change your name to "Greg Sager Sumander."  :D

I agree, we might see one 10-10 team make the playoffs, but I hope we don't a see a 10-10 team along with a 9-11 team.  Out of the teams currently in 3rd-6th, we've got Bethel & Concordia at 8-6, & SJU & Carleton at 8-7.  That would mean someone only going 2-4 or 2-3 to squeak in at 10-10.

Tonight's game between the Oles & Johnnies is a must win for the Oles, as are all of their remaining games.  At 7-8, the Oles need to find a way to get at least 3 wins to get to 10-10 & then pray for help. Of their remaining 5 games, the only game where they would possibly be favored is against Macalester.

The Johnnies have a slightly easier path to ten victories since they're already at 8 wins. If I was an oddsmaker, I would give them a 4 pt edge tonight against the Oles, a draw against Augsburg in Minneapolis on Saturday, & they would definitely be favored in their games next week against Hamline & Macalester.   There's gotta be two wins in there somewhere.   ;)

Well, look at us now Watch.  Last year you & l were dueling for the pickem lead.  But now this year we're just walking around muttering to ourselves - "I could have been somebody, contendas etc."

Drake - You must re-read my post my friend.  I said, "Now, on to the current MIAC standings.  As of today, here is what we have."  No projections given, just the current state of the MIAC. ;)

And I can offer up that Ethan Wragge, the junior from Eden Prairie you speak of already has a couple of Division I scholarship offers.  Coach Flom has done a nice job with the Eagles the second half of this season.  A very disciplined team with some good young talent.

I do agree with you bleednavyblue, if someone is going to slide in the backdoor and beat out the Cobbers for that 6th spot it will be Auggie.  They're playing some good basketball right now and they have a very powerful inside player in Solaja.

Drake - have you or any other poster seen Wis-Superior this season? I had a nice convo today with their coach, Dave Buchanan, who is in his second year in the NW corner of Sconnie. He went to school at La Crosse and spent time as an assistant at Parkside.

One of the kids from Hutch - Ben Aalfs - just committed to them this week. The Jackets have four kids in double figures - three are froshs and the other is a sophomore. That program is rebuilding for the next couple of years.

yes the irish had a nice win...i support the players who are on the team (basically the seniors) who i used to coach but myself and the rest of my fellow allums no longer associate ourselves with rosemount basketball after the Bull Shtt the AD pulled on our former coach (bender) by getting rid of him and hiring himself to try to get some glory (too bad he is a horrible coach and isnt even 500 with a D1 center and a MIAC shooting guard and a D2 power forward and his entire starting line up back from last year)...as you can tell im bitter and i hate him as do many others...we still support bender and he is an assistant at burnsville now and there were more rosemount basketball alums at burnsvilles last game against valley than there has been at rosemount games the entire year from what i heard from one of my sources

wragge is pretty sick...he had some big games last year as a soph...clark gets most of his points around the basket and in games when teams have forced him to shoot the jumper he struggles

i love watching UNC Duke

WeRFans

The Pipers gave CON a scare tonight as they got within 2 but just ran out of time 73 - 71.  Five guys in double figs.  Two in street clothes, one of whom should be getting that Auggie elbow imprint removed from the side of his nose this week.

Linz answered with 26.

Good night.
Is is March Madness yet?

gacbacker

Stat of the night: Gusties with 28 assists in their 33-point win tonight.

Even better: Duke over UNC!!!!!

Willy Wonka

Duke sucks.

Gusties dominated tonight. Look at the final and then consider SMU was up 21-19 at one point.

Got some interesting info on the Cards roster situation that I'll save until tomorrow, to make sure it doesn't get lost in the game recaps.

Who won the UST/BU battle?
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.
