Wittwer hits an off balance jumper from the elbow with 5 seconds left to win 51-50!

The only lead in the 2nd half for the Gusties was the end of the game.

That's going to be a long ride back to Moorhead for the Cobbers.

recap of the game at Hutton........Pathetic.

It is still a good day to not be a Royal.

SUMMIT!!!!!

kinda harsh, there, LostProphet. The SMU team tonight looked like a totally different team from what I saw at BU & UST....they were hustling, trying and moving...three things they didn't do in the previous games.  HU definitely missed CLute, but also seemed to be going thru the motions. if SMU can play like this more often and consistently, they could start to turn the corner

SUMMIT!!!!!

it was sweet to see Thrasher get his 1000th... not many srs get to that level, much less jrs. kinds surprised to see he is only the 10th in HU history, but then again, when they were a powerhouse, "high scoring" mean the team hit 50

sounds like gustavus got one the hard way.  didn't see or hear any of it, but would wager/hope the home crowd came through for the gusties.

super tough loss for the cobbers.

will officiating be to blame yet again?

There were two main factors deciding the game this evening at Gus Young. First, the Gusties have more left after Wittwer than the Cobbers do without Linz. Both spent much of the second half on the bench in foul trouble. It actually might have been even better for GAC, but several very good looks from outside bounced in and out. GAC missed a good share of free throws, too. Second, Wittwer managed to escape his 5th and stay on the floor to finish the game. He hit the biggest shot I've seen since Espenson's game-winning 3-pointer against Mac in OT way back in '04. Both teams played intense defense, and in a contest to surrender the fewest points, the Gusties will win most of the time. Down the stretch, both teams' offenses suffered from passes to nobody and other sloppy turnovers.

For once, the crowd came to life at Gus Young, though I was disappointed by the halftime exodus, and that it took until the final 5 minutes or so for the whole crowd to really get into it.

Maniac- Harsh, being down by 21 to a team with only one win and being at home, i don't think it is that harsh.  But that SMU team played with passion and desire.  They wanted to win that game, they hustled to all the loose balls and crashed the boards very well.  Hamline showed flashes of hustle but turned the ball over so much.  They just didn't seem mentally there.  #32 for SMU, Will, is going to be a good player in this conference, he seemed to get to the rim whenever he felt like it, very quick.  SMU played undersized the whole game and hit outside shots.

Congrats also to Thrasher for hitting his 1000th point.

Why in the world when with 5 minutes to go and double digit lead do you go to a non-trapping 2-3 zone.  I didn't quite get that, SMU just let the play clock run down and then jacked up a shot.  I believe Thrasher was feeling under the weather.  He supposedly missed practice yesterday.  I don't think you are going to get into the playoffs with 11 losses.  This was a must win, but it didn't look or feel like it.

Good to see after the controversial loss at Carleton...by the way was that guy at the UT-Rutgers women's game last night in his customary role? : ;) ;D

GAC has got to start getting leads earlier. You can't always count on having an outrageous comeback.

That Georgetown foul was not much of a foul, especially in the last second of a game.

Also, I know it's women's ball, but the Rutgers/ Tennessee game ended badly too, with the clock stopping for a second an a half before running out, allowing Tennessee to get fouled and make the free throws to win the game. Bad day for college referees.

Hopefully all went better for the MIAC refs. We need some good ones for the big games coming up, as opposed to the ones at the GAC/UST game.

Reporter: Charles, is there anything about the incident you regret?

Sir Charles: Yeah, that we weren't on a higher floor.

OK, just for the heck of it, my first bracket projection of the year. Based on results to date, Pool A bids going to the highest rated team in the conference, not the leader, except for the UAA.

From west to east, (weekend host listed first, midweek host second if 3-team bracket)

Occidental – Cal Lutheran (C) – Chapman (B)
St. Thomas – Buena Vista – UW-Whitewater (C) – Nebraska Wesleyan (B)
Washington U – UW Stevens Point (C) – Webster
Lawrence – Augustana – DePauw (C) – Defiance
Capital – Wooster – Lake Erie
Hope – UW-Platteville – Loras (C) – Bethany
Mary Hardin-Baylor – Maryville TN (B) – Millsaps (C) – Puget Sound
Centre – Guilford – Averett
Ursinus – William Paterson – Messiah (C) – Baptist Bible
Gettysburg (C) – DeSales – Virginia Wesleyan (C) – Immaculata
Richard Stockton (C) – Widener – Stevens (C) – Moravian (B)
Rochester (C) – Brockport (C) – York PA – York NY
Plattsburgh – Nazareth – WPI – Farmingdale
Amherst – Brandeis (C) – Emerson
Mass-Dartmouth – Bowdoin (C) – Salem St – Gordon
Middlebury (C) – Trinity CT (C) – St. Lawrence – Elms

This gives hosting to top 2 in each region except Atlantic, with extra seed to Northeast.

The "bottom 19" Pool A and B are separated as far as possible (some brackets must have two low seeds in the bracket, and all brackets have at least one bottom seed).

Also from Dlll hoops the first run of the replacement for the old quality of win index.

Alright, first run of these for the season for us:

http://www.d3hoops.com/salem/08/owp.htm

OWP and OOWP for all teams through Sunday's games. Subject to entry errors, of course, although I have gone through all of the schedules at least once.

UST stacks up favorably in both.

I fly any cargo that you can pay to run
The bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run

Tommies up from 19th to 17th in the latest D-3 poll.  http://www.d3hoops.com/top25/

Winona State still only has the one loss to St. Thomas (amazing, amazing win) and at 23-1, ranks 3rd in the D-2 poll.  http://nabc.cstv.com/coaches_corner/coaches_corner-polls-div2.html
