Valentines day just goes to show how women can control our lives.  Which is why i am on late.  What is the bigger fall.  projected 3 and end up at 11 or projected 1 and end up at 7 or 8.  Hamline fell 8 spots, and Bethel may only fall 7.  But which one was the bigger let down?

I would say Bethel's fall is a bigger let down than Hamline's this season. I expected Bethel to be near the top of the league this year with a legitimate shot at the MIAC title. Hamline on the other hand had a couple question marks and I saw them as a middle of the pack team at best.

Actually, I've talked to a few Tommies as well, and have heard similar assessments as the DD. Archer just wasn't very well-liked by these people I was talking to, so maybe there's something to it. DD's comments might be just a little above being called pathetic.

I will laugh hysterically if the preseason MIAC favorite for a majority of us posters ends up not even making the playoffs. Congrats to the Tommies on clinching at least a share of the title last night.

Was going to pose this question earlier.....For those that have been following the MIAC for longer than I have....When was the last time a preseason favorite (like BET this year) fell on their face this bad to the point where they are fighting for their playoff lives?

That's the signal for Mose to cue up the MIAC time machine.  ;)

The time machine is revved up
Never, that I can recall. Biggest flop in the past 30 years.

Good humor. +K.  Apparently your version of the MIAC time machine is purple.  ;)

I've been accused of having purple vision by many, but I own other color blinders, too (I just rarely wear them).

DP- I think I'm gonig to call you Aaron, and if you know your Old Testament, you'll know why.  ;D

SJU4LIFE-- I'll second that about Brink.... and say much the same about Wittwer, Linz, and a whole host of others. We are truly lucky here in the MIAC with a lot of good ballers who happen to be incredibly young men too.

Aaron?  How about Moses?  or Adam, after all didn't he come first on this board and he seems to know how to set things into commandments.

DP, The inevitable finally happened....+k you past me in # of posts!

The only reason this happened is that you've developed other healthy winter pasttimes. I'm still fairly one-dimensional.  ;)

Not sure about the healthy part, but pasttimes they are. Wait til I tell what my latest scheme is! That's a story for another day though. Just a hint, I have to buy my supplies on Grand Avenue!

I think I know exactly where you're talking about!  At Lexington & Grand go back west from the Uptowner Cafe about half a block on the south side of street.  Tsk, tsk, tsk.  When I was out in the NW this fall I heard people complaining about the high cost of barley & hops.   ;)

I see you are familiar with that area!
I fly any cargo that you can pay to run
The bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run

Great question Prophet...I didn't think last years Hamline team had great chemistry to begin with...but all I heard about in the offseason was how "together" the Bethel team was and lets look at All-MIAC performers...you can argue that Bethel will have two....Madson and Moberg...how many did Hamline really have going into last year?  I think two would be a stretch...

i have one thing i'd like to change about the archer discussion...

why are we talking about how well liked he is off of the court?  first, it's straight up gossip, not just conjecture or speculation.  it's girly, middle school gossip.  second, it is more cruel than informative or evaluative.  i don't like it.  whoever a person is, there are some people who enjoy their presence, and some who don't.  not worth talking about, maybe.

some people might bring up the johnson discussion and say these are similar.  they are not.  i, along with several other posters, intentionally differentiated between who johnson might very well be off of the court and what he does within the 40 minutes. anyways...

Jon DeRock and Tony Thrasher. DeRock was all-MIAC as a Frosh; Thrasher was either one too, or honorable mention.

call it girly gossip, but it can be seen in other sports stories as well:

Randy Moss
Terrell Owens
Dennis Rodman
Tony Romo
Eddie Griffin???
Roger Clemens?
2007/08 d3 National Pick'em Runner-up.

concordia of the north

all well and good, snowman.

but, i'd like to think the miac is classier than the national professional sport's scene and I know it is more familiar.  one of the reasons many people enjoy d3 (including miac) basketball is the closeness of the community.  that doesn't necessarily mean friendliness, but we certainly play and exist in closer proximity than Randy Moss and the national press syndicates.

Dawg Dude,

I respected your skills in high school, but you're nothing short of pathetic for posting on here and making us think you're somebody other than who you really are. Wait till you get your degree, then feel free to post.

I've known Teddy Archer since he was about 12 years old. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few things happen on the court in the heat of the moment, but the kid is a class act off the court.

Hoops4Life and MIAC – stay away from the legal or journalism fields. Assumptions on identity is what gets people in trouble.

Hoops – I hope your bball skills are better than your investigative skills (weak sauce). I'm not Jon. We may have a common last name but that's it. And never call out an active player on a post where you don't know it's them. That's just bad karma. Knowing Jon's personality, he's way above a stunt like posting here on another player. Shame on you.

For the record, I'm a UST grad and donate to the athletic program every year. I'm embarrassed as an alum when I see a player go after another like Archer did, even in the heat of battle. No call for it. Fritz must not have seen it since Archer stayed in the game. Knowing Fritz, if he had Archer would have gotten some bench time.

I like UST defense. They play in your face, baseline to baseline D. That's why there at the top on what was expected to be a down year.

For the Auggies, can't help but wonder where they'd be if Krum was still there. It might not have been such a slow start.

The Aug – Cord game is make or break for the Dawgs. At 10-10 they would be leaving their fate to the tie-breaker.

I have no beef with Johnson. Good player but could stand to be a bit less of a prima-dona. Rock on.

As for Archer, it's the intent to injury another player that needs to be called out. The reference to other comments just proves it's his style. The MIAC has more class than that.

teddy archer's antics on the floor are possibly a reflection of some of his own previous experiences of being bullied or abused.  that is why he acts the way he does.   feel sorry for the kid.  and hope that his current coaches correct him before something worse develops.  he needs some guidance---and soon.   :(
zach johnson?   zach 's on court behavior is odd/strange/unorthodox/tool-like.   ::)   but mean and dangerous? the kid is totally harmless.

The Dude-  With an email of jbcassens@augsburg.edu or something close to that, what are we to think.  Jon CASSENS plays for AUGSBURG.  It is pretty acceptable in my mind to immediately link the two together.  Plus i doubt that anyone here is CIA or knows a whole lot about investigative field.  Except for the Mafia Guy, he seems to know his way around Boombahlaties, Triple Burgers, Roller skates, and covers the MIAC!  No one man can do that much.  Somethin is fishy there.....

Derock and Thrasher were two potential all miac performers, Wiener was all miac defense.  But yeah all we heard this past summer was how together the Bethel Boys were.  Hey if you don't make the playoffs just remember.."All you need is Love"

Johnson is Harmless, at the Hamline game the Goose proceeded to walk into the BIG GOOSE and then act as if he had been hit by a car.  Not dangerous, just annoying.  I played with and against Archer at a Life Time fitness in Plymouth years back.  he seemed level headed at the time except when he asked if i wanted to play at DeLasalle next year.  I was beyond the high school years and had to decline....DeLassalle doesn't recruit, ha.  I don't agree with his on court antics but I trust Fritz enough to handle it all.
