What's the point of all the secrecy?  Though it does make for a fun cover-up and what not, I have no problem with Jon Cassens posting on D3 hoops that he took a few elbows from archer and was not too happy about it.  He doesn't cross the line until he threatens somebody in the rematch, but that sure would add some intrigue to that next game.  If Augsburg had any fans that went to the games they could start chanting "jerkface" whenever Archer touched the ball.

AO - I won't post the website's Terms of Service in it's entirety but here's a link & an excerpt you might be interested: D3 Sports Terms of Service

8. Are you an active player? We welcome you aboard, but your coach might not be a big fan of it. You might want to check. Are you a new recruit? Here's a hint -- people will see your e-mail address, so that message you're about to post asking if anyone has heard about this great shooting guard from Soandso High School isn't such a great idea. [added 10/26/04]

I'll also add that I just did a little basic sleuthing (it was legal D-D  ;)) & if Dawg-Dude says he's not the aforementioned Augsburg player, I'd believe him.

The example given there is another guy trying to hide his identity; whereas if Jon identified himself as Jon and made some honest observations about the game, he would not be violating the terms of service.  Whether Coach Griess would appreciate his players posting on the league message board is another story.  We don't have too many post-game quotes in the newspapers from players at the D3 level, so a little insight from the player perspective would be welcomed by me.

Judges was always my favorite book of the Bible.

I believe the verses we're looking for are:

Judges 15:15-16
Judges 16:17

Man, that religion minor was definitely worth it ::)

Hmmph, the things you can't learn on this board.  Once again I'm begrudgingly impressed with the formidable skills of Mr. Wonka.  But tell the truth -- you "googled" the verses right?  And, I thought you once said you had a Philosophy minor, or did you have a double minor?  ;)

Googled the first, knew the second. I could be CON's assistant coach whenever he gets his own church, if he pays me enough ;)

I was two classes away from a history/religion double major...but didn't want to take the high level classes necessary for it my senior year. Surprisingly, relaxation and some class with the GAC athletic trainer were more appealing for my final semester :)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Uhh, yeah, not too many coaches would be pleased with their players posting bulletin board material.  ::)

Here in the MIAC we get great, additional media coverage through College Sporting News with player quotes and audio interviews.  The UMAC might want to look into something like that.  ;)
************

Willy- then you young turks might want to spend a little more time in the New Testament - Days of Grace.  I hear a lot of Old Testament hellfire & brimstone from two of my favorite (?) Lutherans  on the board.  ;)

AO- A little player insight isn't a bad thing in my opinion either. However, when the opinions or comments become skewed with maniac esq blinders its hard to take without looking at the players bias. All, or many, posters have bias towards their favorite teams but players are on a different level. Dawg-Dude- I have no problem posting on this board. Usually it is former players that post on the board though.  ;)

Can't we all just get along?  Can't we all just get along?  Agree to disagree...you may not agree with my point but defend my right to say it.  (I think D'taquiville said that, but government majors would know better than a guy who slid through a state school and picked up a communications degree)

I take it that your second quote refers to nineteenth-century French political writer and historian Alexis de Tocqueville. He wasn't the one who said, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." That quote belongs to Beatrice Hall, who wrote it in her book The Friends of Voltaire (1906). She used it as a paraphrase of a quote from the writings of the great eighteenth-century French philosopher Voltaire, who wrote in his "Essay on Tolerance", "Think for yourselves, and let others enjoy the privilege to do so, too."

Your first quote belongs to late-twentieth-century L.A. philosopher Rodney King. ;)

not that any of you really care but i had been curious why Carr hadn't played for the cards in there last 2 wins, oh yeah sorry i forgot one was cheated away from them, but in their last 2 games he has been on the bence in street clothes.  Apparently he tore a ligament in his hand against olaf i believe whatever game was 3 games ago for them.  He finished the 2nd half however...tough kid in my opinion or at least it seems that way, torn ligaments are usually pretty painful from my experience.  Anyways good luck to the carrless cards tomorrow againist a down bethel team

Sum - "I don't have a Dog in this Fight" Vick Sumander,  :D with the flexibility & ease that Google offers, even some of us common folks can quickly look up an answer. What's more impressive is that you have this quote noodling around in your cranium. What size cap do you wear?   ;D +K

DP, mostly just a lot of useless trivia rattling around up there. Had a teacher in a H.S. govt class that liked quoting Mr. Paine.

Gee I guess what I thought I remembered from the government class I took, I didn't really remember...hey Greg we have something in common...I'm Liverpool class of 88, and when I chatted with Coach Whitmore at Hamline it was like a trip down memory lane as he is from North Syracuse...

Looks like the Lutherans have polka-ed their way into the league highlight games today.  The 2nd place Gusties take the drive over to Northfield to take on the 9-9 St. Olaf Oles.  For the Oles, the job is simple, win out their last 2 games of the year & they're probably in the playoffs.  But with games against playoff bound Gustavus & Carleton to close out the season, the job is much easier said than done.

Up at the Dawg pound - when was the last time a regular season basketball game between Concordia & Augsburg had this much on the line?  Today, the 10-7 Cobbs are trying to find that one elusive win to secure a playoff spot.  At 8-9, the snarling Dawgs of Augsburg are still smarting from their loss to UST the other night & are desperately trying to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.  Not even factoring in the pick-ems contest  ;D, the Cobbs-Dawgs game is not just playoff possibilities, it's --

*  Big city Lutes vs. the small city Lutes
*  Interstate 94 bragging rights
*  Conservative Lutherans vs. Liberal Lutherans
*  Lutefisk, lefse, tatertot hotdish, & grandma Tollefson's lingonberry pie

Even Tribune sports columnist Jim Souhan got in on the act & gave Augsburg a small plug in his column today. Jim Souhan column (PI, you turn him on to this angle?)

Q: What's up with our guy Devean George, the Augsburg alum, killing a blockbuster NBA trade because it could hamper his negotiating leverage next offseason?

A: This is great for the Auggies -- they'll become the first team in the country to recruit elite players because of their economics department.

The intrigue is almost enough to make me change my mind & not take in the "Brainiac Bowl" between Carleton & Mac in Northfield today.   :P ;)

Always nice to run into a fellow Liverpudlian, VOJ. You were at LHS when Chris Gedney was playing football for the Warriors, right?

Yea I was there when Geds was there...played football with him on the team that won the state title in 87...Partee Gedney, Swenton, Tom Furr and Jeff Lanier were the starting five on that final four hoops team...the most exciting regular season game they played was against Nottingham in their Christmas Tourney...against Jason Buchanon who later played at St. John's of NY and future NFL Stud RB Dorsey Levens...I had great seats at center court at Nottingham for that one...
