No problem, oldtimefan. I'd love to agree with your final point, but Hanson may be the least demonstrative coach we have in the league when it comes to "arguing" with the officials. That said, I hope he doesn't have to become agitated again tomorrow because that will mean the Tommies are getting away with their shenanigans.

If Wittwer gets three weak offenses fouls again, Wonka may follow the refs and/or Archer home from the game afterwards to begin his plot for revenge...and then sell the rights to my story to John Grisham. Or Matt Christopher.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

gac will need some help from the officials tomorrow night.  here's hoping they get it.   :o

The game hasn't started, and we're already complaining about the refs? That's a new low.

Having seen them play a few games this year, I can't see where the shenanigan complaints are coming from.  Seems to me that they are just playing tough, in your face defense, very similar to what most good D1 teams try to play.  Is the MIAC supposed to be a more gentlemanly league?  Will watch the play off the ball today to see if I can tell what you are complaining about.  Admit I do have a tendency to watch the ball most of the time.

To those who have a passing interest or more in D1 hoops, Duke just beat NC State 87-86 after being down by 8-10 points most of the 2nd half.  ;D

BBTommie - those are the words of an embittered, spiteful, resentful Gustie supporter.  Did I mention he doesn't like UST?   ;) Willy dislikes all things purple & white, unless you take into account his unusual support of Jessica Katch from UST for league MVP in women's basketball.

Instead of shenanigans, I prefer the phrase – performance art.  ::) Willy is primarily referring to the antics of #5 - Teddy Archer.  Archer is quickly becoming a master of the flop, sneaky elbow, & is a quick, annoying, effective defender.

In other words, my favorite type of player....unless he's on the other team. ;)

Drake- I'm a little more impressed by UNC's victory today vs BC. Down 18 in the second half they come back to win by 10 and they overcame 46 points from BC's Tyrese Rice.  Rice was insane today. At one point in the first half he was 8-8 from 3 pt land.... 34 points in the first half eclipsed his previous career high. All in all it was the second most points in school history.

Watch - nah, that was just a subtle little dig at Willy.   ;) (Check his signature line).  The game itself wasn't all that.  But you can certainly tell March is here -  all kinds of crazy stuff happening in hoops. I had the tv on ESPN & caught the tail end of the G-twn Marquette game, another OT thrilla.  But 34 points in one half is crazy!!

Tommies Win  :-[

Congrats to T. Witt for having a great collegiate career.  He has been through a lot in the past 4 years and it is sad to see a player of his character and talent leave the MIAC.  I hope the Gusties get into the Tourny, great game, tough loss.

Congrats to UST. Wanted to go, but I'm sick, and I just couldn't muster enough energy to stay in the Cities any longer. Been up there since Wednesday.

Go Piper hockey! Beat SJU 4-2 tonight...will host UST Wednesday night!

Points from the MIAC championship:

1) What a game. I think the largest lead of the game was six points, and it was in the first half. Always close, every possession counting. It was the sort of game where every pass and shot seemed to hang up in the air for a few seconds longer than it should.

2)  UST did not have a great game from the outside. Scott didn't shoot well- hell, no one really did. Their two posts, McCoy and #40 (can't remember me name, and my program was history five minutes into the game) made nearly every shot, free throws included. GAC just didn't have any response to them.

3) The atmosphere was really good. Lots of gold and black made it north. It was loud from both sides. Only real problem: a curse word chant in pre-game by the GAC crowd. Just pure embarrassment from a GAC alum. The F word should never be part of a chant. Bad form on some of the other GAC fans for routinely going out onto the floor. However, after that, very good crowds on both sides.

4) Now, for the bad: The refs were quite poor. They made some terrible calls. Wittwer had two fouls in the first five minutes: one, a ridiculous offensive foul  mile away from the ball, the second one a tough blocking foul. So, he sat for much of the half. In the second half, he got called for two questionable offensive fouls and fouled out with seven minutes left on a cheapie tripping foul. What a joke. The kid's an MVP candidate and he gets called for three offensive fouls, all of which were not obvious. What a terrible way to go out. Plus, the same ref called every foul on Wittwer, almost as if the guy wanted to get him on the bench.

5) Reffing gaff #2: with 1:30 left in the game and UST up by a point (I think), the refs call an unbelievably weak flop in the backcourt. I forget which Gustie was called, but it was for an elbow, which did not touch the UST guy, who made a pro-wrestling type flop. As one of my cohorts said, there were three other times a UST guy flopped that hard and no call was made. It was a poor time to make that call for the first time. After that, UST got a few free throws, GAC took a few bad shots in the last few possessions, and the rest is history.

There's probably more to recap, but I need a break and a tall, cool Budweiser.
(Reporter interviewing Charles Barkley after and altercation where he threw a fan out of a bar window)

Reporter: Charles, is there anything about the incident you regret?

Sir Charles: Yeah, that we weren't on a higher floor.
