A question to anyone still reading the board:  Is it common knowledge that I simply overlooked, but did Brady Larson actually leave Hamline to join the new coaching staff Rich Glas is assembling at Concordia?  I know we've speculated that Larson would join his former coach, but thus far, I've not seen anything on either website announcing a resignation or a hire.

sorry can't help with this one.
do you, drake, or anyone else know if any of the kids who played in the coaches all star series are capable of stepping into any of the  miac programs to which they are headed and playing immediately?  i have actually seen a number of these kids play, but none that are going miac.  and IS the kid from ellsworth (schilling) truly headed to augustana?

The only kid I've seen play live is guard Seth Anderson from Maple River (GAC). Very nice player - could see him 10-12 minutes to begin season.

From the Trib:
QuoteSt. Thomas pitcher Lonnie Robinson has thrown 19 consecutive shutout innings.

Robinson, a senior righthander from Brooklyn Park, pitched five shutout innings in the Tommies' 9-2 victory over Macalester on Friday. Robinson, who is 4-0 with a 2.05 ERA this season, started his streak on March 19 when he shut out Salve Regina 4-0 in Fort Myers, Fla. It was the first time Salve Regina had been shut out in 169 games.

Six days later, Robinson threw a four-hit shutout in the Tommies' 5-0 victory over Wisconsin-Oshkosh, ranked No. 7 in NCAA Division III. It was only the fourth time in its past 241 games that Oshkosh had been held scoreless.

Division III ends talk of making new division
At the annual NCAA Convention in January, NCAA Division III institutions began considering a plan to create a new division or subdivide Division III.

Two weeks ago, the Working Group on Membership Issues, which made the proposal after studying the expected growth in the number of Division III institutions over the next 12 years, ended the discussion of creating a new division.

According to the NCAA News, the panel has, instead, recommended that the NCAA adopt a "more broad-based approach" to continuing growth.

The panel will release results today of a survey of Division III institutions, which was done in February. According to NCAA News, members of the panel "characterized the degree of opposition to the restructuring recorded in the survey as consistent with the level of opposition that was expressed during an NCAA Convention discussion of the working group's proposal."

Pat Coleman

Those survey results are summarized on the D3hoops.com front page.

The news that D-IV was scuttled was covered a week ago.

Curious move going from Texas to North Dakota.  If he can mine the Texas recruiting base, NDSCS will continue to have some powerhouse teams.

In my opinion, I think the overall talent level might be down a bit for next season, compared to this season when we had so many FY make significant contributions.  Aside from the list of players from the HS All-Star series, I'm sure there will be "new"players that will surface next year that only their coaches, family and fans from their respective leagues will be familiar with.  Just like last year, very few fans (aside from Local  ;)) were familiar with Carl Hipp & Eric Clute from Hamline, Robbie Schmidknecht – GAC, Will Wright & Lukas Holland from SMU, Chris Schwartz from SJU, etc.  Most of the other FY wunderkind we had previously heard about - Tyler Nicolai at UST, Karl Olson , Darrin Olmscheid & Erik Lien at Cord, Carter Biewen at CARL, etc.

Out of the potential MIAC commitments, the player I think most likely to make an immediate impact is Bloom. Kennedy's PG, Alfred Jaryan at STO.  The Oles are going to have sizeable holes in their roster to fill, and a key loss will be 4 year starter, PG Steve Banick.  Jaryan is shorter & has a slighter build than Banick, but is waterbug quick & does a very nice job running an offense.  His HS running mate Bobby Fong will probably get some clock as well, but he's going to be an undersized post player at 6-3.  He in turn will need to step up and fill the shoes of another undersized post player, Bobby Hunter. Over the last couple of years I've seen Jaryan & Fong play 3-4 times.  I've not seen Nick Ramsey from Lakeville South. The reports I've heard is that he's a solid player but he would be competing for minutes behind the Oles' Mark Torell, or get some of the graduated Chad Norberg's minutes.

Carleton seems to do an excellent job of recruiting players that fit their scheme & I'm guessing (6-1) Blaise Davis from Elk River will be no exception.  He was a 2 time all conference player and maybe he can fill the role that Jake Phillips had for a number of years as a solid shooting guard.  I think his natural position is a 2G & not a PG. However, the Knights are going to need some interior help with the graduation of All Everything - Tommy Drake.

Bethel picks up another quality wingman in Mounds View's Mike Schramm. Although the competition for playing time could be tough as Bethel returns 7 of their top 8 players next season.  I saw Mounds View play once this year and they had a roster full of seemingly interchangeable 6-3 to 6-6 players.  Schramm was the team's leading scorer in the always tough Suburban East Conference.

As far as the rest of next year's players, it's going to be a numbers game.  Fritz Waldvogel from St. Thomas Academy & Peter Leslie are potentially going to 1 of two schools with a number of guards ahead of them – GAC & or UST.  It will be interesting to see which sport Waldvogel ends up sticking with, football or basketball.  The same decision holds true for Como Park's Greg Morse if he decides to attend UST.  Football, basketball or both?

The numbers game also applies for Bloom. Jefferson's Aaron Barmore – there will be a bunch of wing players at C-ville next season all vying to be the next Brady Brink.

I'm not familiar with the other potential MIAC players.

With the new scholarship money designed to attract international students to MAC, I'm hoping Curt Kietzer is able to find a stud post player & PG to replace Conboy & Abe.   If not, it could be a very long season next year for the Scots.

there really were some pretty decent freshmen logging major minutes this year, and contributing significantly to some pretty good teams.  it appears that sju and sto have been the hungriest in this year's recruiting wars, and possibly also the most needy.  thanks, dp, for your insights.

does anyone know of the future plans of eric robertson's little brother (leaving u-river falls) who is rumored to be headed to either carleton or bethel?

Willy Wonka

Drake - I haven't heard anything definite on the coaching front. I may hear a few things over the next few days, however.

Carleton has also added 6-7ish post Caleb Rosenow of Red Wing. I'd expect his contributions to be fairly minimal early in his career, but he's got the skills and body type to develop into a Tanner Schieck-type player down the road. Kalland is more excited that I about his immediate prospects.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Supe – Hamline is also in the mix for the soon to transfer, Nate Robertson of UW-River Falls.

I also checked MN Preps & found a few additional recruiting tidbits & IMO, one questionable idea.

Eastview's (6-4) banger, Michael Grinnell possibly to Carleton.

PI's "All-Name" player – Holy Angel's 6-1 Stoddard Barnhill, is considering Southwest State, a couple of other D2 schools and possibly UST.

Spring Lake Park's (6-5) post, Corey Polta possibly to Augsburg. (If this is true, Polta could be a nice get for the Dawgs to replace Femi Solaja.)

Apparently, Sibley's Peter Leslie is getting a late season recruiting pitch from several of the regional D2 schools – Bemidji State, Concordia St. Paul, UMD, along with the previously mentioned MIAC schools – but apparently he's considering walking on at Northern Iowa, NDSU or Wisconsin Green Bay.  I hope the concussion he suffered in the state tourney championship game hasn't addled his decision making process. ::) ??? :o ;)  I recall another t-shirt wearing D3 guard I loved who tried to make the transition to D1 for a year.

Wow, I take a cruise for a week hoping to come back to an abundance of chatter on the board and all I get is one page!? :(   Anyone know of any Hamline recruits coming in (Local).  It seems like a few MIAC schools are hitting the recruiting hard and others i haven't even heard a thing about.

Yes the wolves are cursed, is it still possible that we could even lose our pick to the clippers, another cursed team?

What are the Odds on Psycho-T coming back for one more go with UNC?

Saw a funny south park highlight the other day where they crush Bill Belichick for cheating.  It is worth a watch.

Ok, I'll blame Prophet for starting with the video links, but here's a random post.

I haven't seen the movie "21," but here's a BIG IDEA for a spring workout song.
