how will ssu be?   who else (aside from winona state) should be good in the newly revamped nsic?   ???

Thanks for your insight on DeRock. As for Southwest, we definitely won't be as good as were last year. Losing two 1,000-point scorers is never easy. Some have said we are a team with only role players, but I guess we'll see. I expect Kevin Andrews and Ross DeMasi to be our leading scorers.

We are set at point guard with Ryan Krome and Andrew Peschong.

The two areas with holes are on the wings and maybe at power forward.

At power forward, we will be counting on two sophomores to anchor the position: Taylor Huseby and Scott Roehl. Andrews saw time here last year, but I believe he will play mostly SF this year due to the lack of depth at the wing position.

For the two wing positions, we have Kevin Andrews, DeRock, Andy Beilke, freshman Lavione West, Trent Carlson, and Zach Bruns. The only two with adequate prior playing experience at D-II are Andrews and Beilke. Carlson and Bruns I expect will only get garbage time minutes, unless they've significantly improved.
Last year, both point guards would see time on the court together often, something you can do when one of them (Peschong) is 6'6".West is a freshman with a lot of talent who wants to play, but we have a tendency to try and redshirt all freshmen unless there is a dire need.

That's where DeRock comes in. It would be a big boost for this program if he can play well. We redshirted him last year, knowing full well that we would need him for this year after the graduations of Krenske and Fletcher.

-----------------------------

As for the conference as a whole, it should be interesting. Lots of teams lost top talents. Pretty much everyone at the top of the conference did.I expect the three top teams to be Northern, Mankato, and Winona. Other than that, its a crapshoot.

Oh, and its SMSU now, not SSU

If you are worried about a lack of scoring, Derock will fill that void.  He can get hot and score in bunches.  He has got a great cross over and a great fake crossover.  He is more athletic than people think.

A little recruiting news for the board....it looks like a couple of highly sought after MIAC recruits have decided to head across the border to play their college basketball.

Stillwater High School guard Aaron Anderson and Irondale High School guard-forward Colin Utke will attend UW-River Falls according to the Falcons website.

Anderson, 6-4, was a two-time All-Conference selection in the always tough Suburban East Conference. He was also named to the Academic All-State team while averaging 16 points and five rebounds during his senior season. He finished eighth all-time in career scoring for Stillwater Head Coach Denny Bloom, a UWRF alum, with 904 points.

Utke, 6-6, averaged 16 points, eight rebounds and three blocks a game during his senior season in which he was named to the North Suburban All-Conference team. He was selected to play in the 2008 Minnesota All-Star series and holds Irondale school records for single season points, rebounds and career three-point field goals.

You're going to marry Internet celebrity Allison Stokke? The favorite pinup girl of Fark.com and assorted cyberstalkers everywhere? You certainly know how to swing for the fences when it comes to boombalahties, CMob. ;)

Cmob, Got the dreaded red X when I looked for the Allison Stokke pic. My guess is it is similar to this one! ;)

A little birdie says something big is brewing and that little birdie can't say what it is.....??? Let's just say it's the biggest news to hit this board (minus the SMU hiring) in the past two weeks.

PI, did I miss the news?  ???

Nope. It could be a while.

PI you're killing us.... :P  Can we at least get some tidbit as to what this BIG news might concern ???

Another small recruiting tidbit I picked up the other day - Bobby Johnson of Edina is apparently going to Gustavus.  A nice pick-up for the Gusties.

I've also heard a rumor that the Pipers may be close to getting commitments from Andy Burns of Minnetonka and/or Stoddard Barnhill of Holy Angels.  PI ???

I heard through the mill that someone may be transferring from HamBone. Not throwing the name out there to I get the 100%. Clearly it's not the 12th man.
