Hmm.  A Hamine transfer possibly.  You wouldn't think any of the juniors would transfer with only one year left, so is it a freshman??  PI, the saga continues.

Careful, CMob. You don't want to cross a girl who walks around with a big pole all the time. She could reach out with that thing and knock you right off your skates.

Happy Mother's Day everyone!

From the off-season random QOD ("Quote of the Day")  files comes this latest quip:

In Peter Vescey's column in the NY Post on the recent hiring of Mike D'Antoni as the new Knicks coach, he had this to say:

After spending the last 24 hours alone at home with his head coaching thoughts, Knicks president Donnie Walsh choose Mike D'Antoni over Mark Jackson. I'm stunned and baffled by the decision.

"Not only are the Knicks known to shoot themselves in the foot, they often crouch down to get a better aim," zaps column contributor Brian McGunigle.

Brought me to tears.   :o ??? ::) ;D This reminds me of a year ago when Bill Simmons, Stephen A. Smith, Spike Lee & others were crucifying the Knicks when they selected Renaldo Balkman in the first round of the NBA draft.  I still get a chuckle over that incident.

PI, your possible transfer wouldn't be Chad Rich would it.  Last I heard he was looking into Carleton, St. Johns, and Gustavus.  I believe Carleton was first on his list last time I spoke with him in January.

Classic line. I'm stealing that one!

Those east coast writers cut no slack!  ;)

Speaking of writers, has anyone on the board, or you sportwriter types read any David Zirin? I stumbled across his works/website 2-3 weeks ago & just picked up several books of his over the weekend.  Apparently, he's lectured at Macalester (Mac grad?) in the past.  He might be a tad too left for some posters on the board, but he's a compelling writer and makes for an entertaining read.

Good job NCA11.  You don't post often, but when you do, you're dropping nice little morsels of information.

Competition for the next "Brady Brink" will be stiff up at Saint John's next year.  They already have Chris Schwartz & Cole Isetts, and now you add FY Aaron Barmore from Bloomington Jefferson and Noah Kaiser from Sibley to the mix.  The Js might be hurting for senior starters next year, but they certainly won't be lacking for numbers and or young talent for the coaches to work with.

I also have heard that a number of the New London-Spicer players from the state championship team may be heading to SJU as well. No one of great size on that team, but excellent athletes.

Anyone confirm this rumor?

Wade Powers, 6-5 post, has been confirmed to be going there. Not sure if its football or basketball (or both).

No one else of note - good team of players, but nothing truly of collegiate quality in mind. Never know though.

For St. John's fans who haven't heard this already, wissports.net is reporting that Max McHugh from Green Bay(WI) Notre Dame is going to attend St. John's and play basketball.  Here are a couple related links.

Tommies baseball team has won two games in the post season regional at Oshkosh, WI.  Lonnie Robinson shut down Oshkosh 3-1.

Yesterday, another 2 sport athlete (hoops/baseball), FY Ryan Fahey led the Tommies to a 15-1 win over Knox College in the opening round of the playoffs.

Johnnies assistant Pat McKenzie pulls one in from his old stomping grounds...the write up made him sound like a good inside outside player...

By the way speaking of J's bball, they have a great event coming up

The 2008 SJU Basketball Alumni Golf Scramble is scheduled for June 12 at the Monticello C.C. in Monticello. -

In non hoops related news & notes, Johnnies come back from a bazillion strokes to repeat as the NCAA D3 national champions.  Johnnies golf

Tommies' bats go cold as they close out the season with 2 consecutive losses to finish 34-9 (?) at the baseball regional in Oshkosh, WI.  Tommies webmaster must be in mourning as the UST site is temporarily down at the time of my post.  ;)
