I'd pick Grey. I saw him as a sophomore twice and once as a junior. The kid can really play. He's got a great outside shot and moves well without the ball. He can also create his own shot, which can be big.

Barnhill is more of a PG. If Brandon Hayes is your penciled in starter, you're definitely going to need another guy like Stoddard.

This is my best guess on the transfer. It's a hard move from the Cities to Marshall. It is a nice town, but some kids get homesick. DeRock did and moved closer to home. Like Wonka, I made a similar move from the Cities to Olivia to now Hutchinson. I miss living in the cities around everything I grew up with. Maybe that is a reason...or he was going to be red-shirted and he didn't want to wait?

wow :o
interesting reading.   no baldwin at con?   and a freshman or two playing right away at gac?  word is that super-recruit eric hugoson (fairmont '07) from bu is done:  injury to his back that will not heal.  what a tough break for the royals.  and it is fun reading the annual "pipes will be better" stuff.  ;)   does anyone know how many bodies showed up for the first day of johnnie bb practice?    pray tell if you do.

saw barnhill play three times last year; i agree with pi that his playmaking abilities are his m.o.    grey is a streaky shooter who loves to jack up threes.  he must have really improved over the summer if he is going to be in the mix early at gac.   and if he is allowed to do what he does best, the gusties will not need to run their shot clock this year.   :D

haven't heard any reports from that other team in northfield.   any additional news from bu?

I understand that SB is very close to his signifigant other. They spend all their time together. She is transferring and so is he. He also realized that he might not be getting lots of playing time early on. I learned this today from someone inside the program. Sometimes love rules!

this is second hand info so take it at that.

I can confirm that Mr. Hugoson is finished. What a shame. He played in pain last year and to continue could lead to a lifetime of back problems. The kid has great heart and was a wonderful high school player.

Eric's Dad,  Kevin is still in the Bethel record book for assists from 1984. His sister Angie played basketball for South Dakota. This is a heartbreaker for a basketball family.

SUMMIT!!!!!

We finally have an authorative preseason poll out, not the comical one from TSN, putting UST fifth...perhaps a little high, but not too far off, I'd say.

http://www.d3hoops.com/top25/

of note was Bethel receiving 26 votes, ranked #39 and no other MIAC team receiving votes. Although, I did nearly have a coronary when I saw St. Mary's listed as receiving votes till I noticed the next line clarifying it was the MD St. Mary's!

Is the Minneapolis North kid Chamar Wilson?

No idea. I've only heard to him referred to as "that Minneapolis North kid" from those not exactly close to the situation.

For what it's worth, I've heard that the Gusties have a LOT of work to do if they want to be the kind of team we're all used to seeing out of St. Peter. Lots of new faces to go with some familiar ones who will have to step up. Could be an interesting start to the year.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

The Cobbs should have hired one of their many successful coaching alumni and players such as Baldwin would not have quit. The womens basketball team and football team with Rahman and Horan seem to be experiencing some success. They men hired a short term fix with a guy that will not be there in 4 years. They needed to hire a young coach that can relate to the players and has energy, not the same guy that just retired.

I onced asked Glas if he remembered one of his players that played for him at UND and he said he had never heard of him. That same player that he had never heard of is now my assistant coach and received a letter from Glas asking for money. Great PR guy.

Glas was also inititally called as a reference for another candidate that was applying for the job. When he was on the phone with the AD he stated that he may be interested in the job. Nice reference!

I know at least a handful of former Cobbers who, by and large, agree with this assessment. It was a curious hire when it happened and losing Baldwin now doesn't make it any easier to swallow.

About Barnhill, yes he is more of a point guard and Grey is definitely more of a 2, though he can handle the rock. I'm guessing playing time was likely a big part of the reason for transferring. I know he would be redshirting, and next year there would still likely be three guys in front of him.

As a Southwest guy, he never really did seem like a D2 player. Just my opinion.

There is an interesting thread over on www.minnesotapreps.com and I thought it would be fun to talk about here. The basic tenet from the primary poster is that the current Hopkins team which is loaded with D1 prospects would wipe up the floor of any MIAC teams.

Is this the case?

It would have helped Hopkins' argument if the Pulley kids could have won a single game at the summer league.  nevermind that hopkins didn't bother to become the best high school team in the state last year.

AO,

Which league did the Pulley kids participate in? Were there MIAC teams involved. I know about the league at Kennedy and I thought there was one at 43Hoops too. Did they play against MIAC teams? This puts a very interesting spin on this topic. Thanks for the information.

I'm talking about the pulley league down at the salvation army in st. paul.   not exactly the best way to compare Hopkins to St. Olaf, but it was clear to me where a little extra muscle and basketball IQ helped the college kids beat the high school all-stars who were more talented on paper according to the scouting websites or whatever.   Most of the people comparing a high school team to d3 have no idea what D3 basketball looks like.  but sure, I'd take Hopkins over St. Mary's or Crown.
