Gusties looking good here in the first half, up on BV 29-22 with 4:30 left.

UPDATE: Gustavus 40 Buena Vista 27 at the half. Van Sickle with 12 in the first half on a perfect 5-5 from the field. McPartland also with a nice half with 8 points and 5 boards. Big difference in 3-point shooting as BV is a woeful 2-13, while the Gusties are 5-12.

Gusties hang on for the 62-58 victory over BV despite the best efforts of Beavers' guard Andre Wagner, who had a game-high 26 points. Van Sickle with 22 points and McPartland with a double-double (12 and 10).

BV was ice cold from long range, going 5-25. They also went 10 minutes in the second half without a field goal.

Good win for the Gusties heading into the match up with Winona State.

Gusties win 62-58!

I expect the rollercoaster ride could last through the first few weeks of the year...but I didn't expect them to right the ship this quickly, either. BV shot less than 35%, which I wouldn't have ever guessed given the way it dominated UST last year and the way the Gusties played last game.

It will be interesting to see which GAC team is for real. And I'm a little more excited to see them play on Saturday now :)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Nice win by GAC tonight.  I didn't see it coming, but when you shoot 32% from the field and 20% form behind the arc, you aren't going to win many games.  I'm going to guess that this was due to poor shooting more than defense since BV had half the number of turnovers that GAC did.  Looked like Fogleman was kind of quiet as well.  Does GAC have anyone as big as him that slowed him down?

Congrats again on the win.

Nice win for the GAC, the least talented GAC team in 20 years beats a top ten team.   :o  After watching Northwestern dispatch Macalester, I'm confident that Buena is going to extract revenge against the MIAC in a big way when the Scots go down to Storm Lake this Saturday.

Mac's new gym is very nice.  Big and bright, but with only 100 people there when the admission is free you really wonder how in the world they managed to build it when the fan support is so little.  In this case the fan support matches the quality of the team as I would be surprised to see this MAC team win 4 games this year.

least talented...thats quite a statement...time will tell.

I can't take full credit for that, Wonka is the originator, but I believe we'll see a full retraction soon.

Poor shooting has been the norm rather than the exception so far in this young season for Buena Vista.  If you go back & check the stats in the 4 games played thus far, overall you'll see that the Beavers have been shooting rather poorly.  The good news is that in their 3 wins, the other teams have shot even worse.

Aside from the stat padding, blowout win against Dordt College, Buena Vista shot 36%FGA & 28% 3FGA in an OT win against UW-Stout; squeaked by St. Olaf 65-60 by shooting 36.2% Fga & 30% 3FGA; & now in the loss against Gustavus they shot 32% from the field & 20% from the 3 pt line.  On the other hand, the Gusties shot the ball slightly better as they shot an ok 40% from the floor.

I saw your team play last year against St. Thomas & the season opener against UW-Stout several weeks ago.  You've still got a very dangerous club & should be right at the top of IIAC by the end of this season.  I checked your team stats from last season & the only conclusion I can draw is that as a senior dominated team, your club is still working out all of the kinks.  Last year your team shot a very crisp 47% FGA from the floor  & nearly 39% from behind the arc.  Good luck the rest of the season.

Good job Gus Davis.  ;)

Macalester has an endowment of $676,000,000. That's how they managed to build it.

A retraction? Based on what? Please keep things in perspective here.

I said the current Gustie team is the least talented team in St. Peter in at least 10 years, and likely longer. GAC has advanced to the MIAC championship game in, what, eight of those 10 seasons? And went dancing in seven, including a couple visits to the Sweet 16 and deeper? Point being, the 2008-09 Gusties could finish with 20 wins this winter — and I sincerely hope they do — but I'll still stand behind my statement. The last 10+ years have been that good for the Black and Gold.

Doubting their talent level already led to one big win, I don't blame you for continuing the negativity--or the comparisons to the past.  Winona is beatable.

MSU- Moorhead takes care of the Cobbers last night 73-60 . MSUM was playing without 2 Starters. Van Havermaet and Driscoll. Both were serving a one game suspension for violating team rules ;). Things looked pretty even from perusing the box score . MSUM shoots 47% from the floor and 88% from the line while the Cobbs shoot 39% & 57%.
