No Prediction, but I will go over and catch this one. Should be interesting.

I'll not be in attendance for tonight's Snelling Ave. Shootout, but I'll give a quick preview of what I expect to happen.  Carl Hipp is going to get his and if Hamline isn't going into him regularly, Hamline won't win.  If Northwestern is hitting from outside, they definitely have the quickness on defense to come away with a W.  There will also probably be a nice home crowd advantage for Northwestern contributing to the victory.  Northwestern 72 Hamline 64

MIAC & UMAC split tonight.

Northwestern beat Hamline 74- 62 ("pretty good prediction O" he said begrudgingly). No stats yet.

And in a game featuring two teams that couldn't shoot straight, the Oles beat Martin Luther 70-50 behind a robust shooting touch 38% FGA & 29% from behind the arc. MLC was an outstanding 32% FGA & a whooping 12.5% from downtown.   ???

Bobby Fong of the Oles was 8-22!! Who's gonna let a freshman jack up that many shots & miss??  ::)  ;)

Nice prediction, AO! 74-62 and Carl Hipp shoots 3-for-11 for 7 points. Hamline shot 34 percent - Max Van Orstrand (2-12...ouch)

Not a great performance from the Pipes - they allowed the Eagles to shoot 55 percent. Cripes!

Check out the turnover stat - NW turns the ball over 23 times, Hamline 11 times & Hamline ends up on the short end of the stick.

looks like I just mistakenly transposed the 4 and 2 in my prediction. won't happen again ;D

but anyways, my schedule did change as I was able to get to the Ericksen center for a pretty entertaining game.  Nice crowd even without the Dirty Eagles out there pumping up the student section.  My guys just put it on cruise control in the 2nd half.  Hamline was definitely the scrappier, harder working team, but they just ran into a more talented bunch tonight.  Hipp was obviously not getting his way as I thought he would as the double down was coming quickly, but he still deserved more than 17 minutes he got, foul trouble or not.

some funny bits at the end made a double digit win a little more exciting included Whitmore screaming his head off that Berens was fouled rather than our point guard, as he very incorrectly assumed that our forward would be worse from the stripe than our point.  Reid calmly hit both will our point, Reep went on to miss a couple down the stretch.
Stephen Hanson proved he was the best player on the floor by throwing it down a couple times and spiking a hamline layup back to half court.

if you want the stats quicker in the future, the Live Stats work pretty well--plus the play-by-play is pretty entertaining.

Ok O, I agreed with you once, but this is going a bit too far..  ;)

I'd take the pouty, prima donna-ish, but very talented Stephen Hanson for my team but who else you all got - Reid Berens?  A 6-2 UMAC version of a lesser talented Craig Smith from the T-wolves.  :-*

it's not a mistake that Northwestern shot 55% and Hamline 35%.  Either talent or luck, and I didn't see a whole lot of luck out there tonight.

Beren's just took it to Hamline.  call it a knack for the game, or what I call it, talent.  if you went to the game, you might also have noticed brian lecheler a very athletic guard who makes plays all over the floor.  you're right we did graduate a ton, but the cupboard isn't exactly bare.

Something tells me that AO is going to milk this win like a Guernsey in the barn at 6 am. :D

I might if it were an upset.  It's not exactly special when Northwestern beats Hamline.  Just as Wonka would expect Gac to beat Crown or Morris every year, Northwestern expects to beat the pipes.

And unfortunately, he might have another opportunity a week from Saturday when Northwestern plays at Augsburg.   ::)  ;)

O -  no,  I wasn't at the game.  Having said that I know Hamline's coach Whitmore doesn't quite have the athletes to run his press yet, so I'm guessing in addition to the 23 NW TOs, your Eagles got a lot of bunnies after you beat their double teams. Am I right?

Not really, Northwestern seemed quite content to move the ball around the perimeter after beating the press.  Hamline does have the athletes to run the press as the 23 turnovers shows.  Hayes also looked quite capable of putting pressure on any guard in the state.  As I said, they were definitely scrappier, just not talented enough to get it in the hoop.
