That link didn't work for me, WSUFan.   :(

Sorry for the dead link and thanks for the fix Pat. It would be nice if they'd get past the whole name thing so they can move on with raising money for the renovation. I got to take a closer closer look at the plans and it looks awesome. You won't even recognize that crappy visitor sideline when it's done.

Since this WIAC forum has been invaded by supporters from teams in other conferences, I can't keep everyone straight. So, miscellaneous thoughts, directed to whom it may concern:

All this talk about playoff history? Doesn't a team in the WIAC have three National Championships? (Albeit one is an NAIA one, so I guess that doesn't count?) That would be UW-La Crosse, for those of you who are keeping score at home.

Anyone from another conference want to give me a good reason why UW-La Crosse had two open dates this year? Sorry, but I don't think any team in our conference should feel obligated to fill out the schedule by playing the Eagles twice. That leaves the rest of the NCAA D3 schools to step up. Funny, no one did...

Funny, only one person responded to this post; all the others from the conferences who have been invading this one were pretty quiet... Ha.

I do see my Karma went from a -1 to a -3, though. Educated guess would be someone from SJU did it??? I wouldn't think it would be someone from the WIAC who is dissing me, after I've defended our conference....

Anyway, to take a break from this nauseating Linfield and St Johns nonsense.... anyone else see Owen Schmitt on tv tonight? The announcers gave him plenty of recognition. It's nice to see a former WIACer kicking some butt on the 1-A level.

WSUFan

I saw a little bit of it. He doesn't have a lot of carries, but he makes each one count. Didn't he have 6-80 against Maryland?

Bulk19,

Linfield knows the feeling of having to go find games since there are not too many teams outside of the conference that is willing to play Linfield.

That is why Linfield and Hardin-Simmons just signed at two year deal for the 2006-07 seasons.

WSUFan,
Whitewater has had that problem for years. They had signed a long term contract with Carroll College of Waukesha, and then after two eyars. Carroll College pulled out. Thats when Brez started taveling around the country out to Washington,Oregon,Texas, Tennesee,as well as games aganst St. Johns, and Mount Union tiwce. Luckily there are some in state private colleges along with some private colleges from Illinois who will play the Warhawks know. Such as SNC,Lakeland, and then next year Elmhurst college I believe.
So there are teams out thwere that will play the teams from the WIAC, you just have to go looking for them, and find them, and then be willing to travel as well.
It is also better to play teams from ouside the west region as you will probably play them in the playoffs.Thats why brez has stayed away from the Iowa conference and everything

Warhawkalum -

La Crosse doesn't mind playing DII or DIAA, but those games are thrown out record-wise when it comes to this time of the year. I'm not sure what type of compensation La Crosse received from playing SDSU, maybe Pat would have an idea.

They did have a series with HPU, but just like with the playoff discussion, travel can be expensive and as the state cuts spending it becomes more cumbersome. Not to say I don't have my own wish list for next season. Union, Wesley and W&J are open the first weekend. Rowan, Bethel, UMHB, Linfield and Thiel are open the second weekend.

TRU

I see SJU has a bye this week. If they played they would have 11 games in the regular season. Does anyone know if this allowed? I agree it is hard for  a team like Linfield to extra games because of distance. Teams in the WIAC seem to do better as noted.
Maybe we should look for a sponsor to fund some of these cross country match ups? There must be a few rich former players around. I see a former SJU basketball player donated a very large sum.  to the school a few years ago.

What does it take to fund say Linfield at LAX or SJU ? Anyone know? 50,000???

Congrats to the Stout O-line for being the national players of the week, and to Evan Larsen for being the WIAC kicker of the week.

There has been alot of talk about the WW/ Stout matchup pitting the #1 offense (WW) against the #2 defense (ST) in the WIAC.  On paper, it sure looks like Stout has a better shot at containing WW's well-balanced offense but I have my doubts.  #7 has had career days against Stout the last 3 years  (even in their sandbox) and even if they do slow down Jim, there is Stanley, Douglas and the two Justins  to contend with.  Looking at the flip side of the equation, looks to me like Stout has been a primarily run offense this year and WW brings a defense that it #1 in rushing defense and #1 in red-zone defense in the WIAC.  I think Stout will have to air it out to put points on the board, can they do that?   They may stop the game from being a run-away but don't see WW's defense giving up more points than Stout defense at the  the final buzzer. There has only been one team that rushed for over 100 yards this year on WW. Remember, WW's starting defense has rarely finish a game this year.  A lot of points scored against the D came at garbage time.  The field is a big factor here.  How different is it from Eau Claires fields?

Why is it you don't catch all the typos until you post!  I meant that Stout has the #1 Defense (not#2)   Sorry

WSUFan,

Elmhurst is on WHITEWATER's schedule next year.

It was really neat seeing Schmitt playing D1 football and hearing the announcers mention UW-River Falls on a few occassions.    That guy is a bruiser and they were really give him a lot of attention.

I did a little checking on the WHITEWATER/Stout matchup for another site I participate in and here's the rankings in some key offensive and defensive categories.   These rankings include all games.

SCORING OFFENSE
1. UW-Whitewater
2. UW-Stout

SCORING DEFENSE
1. UW-Stout
2. UW-Whitewater

PASS OFFENSE
1. UW-Whitewater
7. UW-Stout

PASS DEFENSE
1. UW-Stout
6. UW-Whitewater

RUSHING OFFENSE
2. UW-Whitewater
3. UW-Stout

RUSHING DEFENSE
1. UW-Whitewater
2. UW-Stout

TOTAL OFFENSE
1. UW-Whitewater
6. UW-Stout

TOTAL DEFENSE
1. UW-Stout
3. UW-Whitewater

TURNOVER MARGIN
1. UW-Stout +14
3. UW-Whitewater +7

RED ZONE OFFENSE

2. UW-Stout

RED ZONE DEFENSE

3. UW-Stout

It's a hell of a match up on paper.

WARHAWKS,WARHAWKS,WARHAWKS

Isn't EauClaire's field sports turf and Stout's astroturf?  Big difference, sports turf is a much better surface.
