Stouts field is the old turf style. Just like something that Camp Randall used to have. It used to be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but now with the new FieldTurf like Eau Claire has, it sucks.

Regarding the fact that some WIAC teams have trouble getting non-conference games.

The MIAC teams play 8 conference games. That leaves only two non-con possibilities. Most schedules are set up years in advance, making it difficult to scedule a game if a date becomes available for one reason or another. One team's off date may not coincide with another team's off date. SJU seems to play WIAC teams with some regularity, most recently UWEC as their opener. Is there some tendency to avoid tough non-conference opponents. Probably. After all, the WIAC is the best/toughest conference in the country, why would those teams want to schedule anything but aa easy win.

Add onto the 8 conference games the fact that most MIAC teams had Macalaster scheduled in as their 10th MIAC game until Mac dropped out of the MIAC.


As retagent mentioned, man contracts are scheduled years in advance, hence SJU and many other MIAC teams were sent scrambling to try to fill that spot, this is why SJU has been forced to drop down to playing the likes of Crown and Northwestern College in past years.


In 2002, SJU played both UWEC and WW.

A lot will depend on Macalaster's future plans. They have a new AD who actually wants them to have sports and wants those sports to succeed which could bring them back to the MIAC again forcing all MIAC teams to have 9 conference games limiting non-conference opportunities to 1 game. The difficulty comes in finding another team with that same week off...unless you want to pull a Northwestern style publicity stunt.

From what I understand, Williams stadium is due to get new turf in 3 years. The current turf was scheduled to be in place for 7 years.

The new field turf was out on the market around the time that Stout converted their field.  I remember going on campus visits in HS and Simpson College down in Iowa had the new style turf, and I am pretty sure that was when Stout was just building that new stadium.  But I could be wrong.  But I know that Simpson had the turf in 2000. Does anyone remember the year that they completed that new stadium?

Don't think there was one poster from the WIAC that proclaimed it the "best'" conference, over the course of the last few days,  just the "toughest" as determined by outside sources such as D-3football .com

Stout started playing on the turf and in the new stadium in 2001 and it was during their second home  game

There are a few things to look at after the UWW-UWS game is over that will have decided it. 
1. Time of Possession (2 best scoring offenses and defenses)
2. Penalties (The most penalized teams in the WIAC)
3. Special Teams (The top punt returners will be playing)
4. Turnovers (Both teams cause the most turnovers)

Both of these teams will try and mash it down each others throat.  It will be very physical and there will be some major penalties.  The top 6 scorers in the WIAC will be playing in this game. 4 of the top 6 defenders will be playing in this game.

Unfortunately, no.  I made a committment to Mrs BW that she's not letting me out of.  But Daddy Deep Pockets is paying for a charter bus that's free to anyone who signs up and from what I've been told it filling up fast.   So I would anticipate a larger following than otherwise would have been the case.

I may be wrong in saying this...but the WIAC DESERVES more than one bid.  the WIAC is the best/toughest conference in the nation, and they should have a second team in the playoffs.  If EC wins out they should get a shot, and (a longshot) if UWO beats a good EC team, and a struggling LAX team, they should at least be considered.

I just knew you guys were going to find somebody who would make me look foolish.  I stand corrected.  "Toughest", I agree with!   "Best,"  that is a stretch and no independent source to back up that claim!!!
