It appeared they ruled that the guy was blocked into Mrkvicka.  Which was comical - the replay showed Troney let the guy go at least 5 yards before contact.

Should have been catch interference - which the flag was thrown for.

The replay shown on the scoreboard was poor and it didn't show the play in it's entirity.  The camera guys just weren't quick enough focusing on the receiver and the push isn't caught on film.  Because he was pushed there is no penalty for catch interference.  Personally I thought it was a good call though several disagreed with me at Saxes afterward.  :D  I thought this officiating crew was better than the one we had last week.   At any rate, we won and it's time to focus on Walbash.

NC was better offensively than I thought they would be.  The quarterback, only a sophomore, was a good passer and excellent runner.  The option plays gave us fits particularly in the first half and his passing numbers would have been much better is his receivers hadn't dropped as many passes as they did.   It was absurd how many balls they droppepd.  He's going to be a good one.  The nose guard was a stud as well.  We double teamed him  regularly and he held his ground allowing the backers to come up behind him and make a bunch of tackles.  We really couldn't get much of anything going on the ground up the middle.

But they played a high risk defense, stacking 10 guys within three yards of the line of scrimmage, playing man to man on the receivers and daring us to beat them passing.  Danny didn't have his best game but he did burn them on occassion and once Beaver got through the first mass of people there was only the safety to catch him and that isn't going to happen that often.

Stoutguy, who cares about the misspelling I'm typing that on an iphone, not the easiest key pad.  The point is, outside of the MIAC and the Twin Cities, a degree from Bethel mind as well be a degree from any other university.  Any person who argues that probably hasn't spent a lot of time outside the midwest in the business arena.  I'm not saying its not a good education just don't try to be all high and mighty like a degree from Bethel means something more.

By the way Bethel is still by far the team with the best sportsmanship I have ever played, but that probably comes from religious background of most who attend there.

That is true, I would agree 100%

The truth is .... educational quality (as tough as that is to quantify) is very similar at UW-EC and Bethel. Here are some comparisons:

                                               Bethel     UW-EC

     AVG ACT - Fresh                   24            24
     Faculty-Student Ratio         15-1         19-1
US News Midwest Rank        20            26

Now here's the one that's not:

     Tuition                             $24,510     $10,648

Both have beautiful campuses. Both have good football teams. Good luck, Royals against Central!

I'm sorry, but if you think that they have the best sportsmanship just because of their religious background, you have the wrong idea.  When I was in grade school, at a public school, we had a private christian school in our conference.  Those parents were the most unsportsmanlike and whinniest people ever.  On rebounds, I heard one parent even yell at their kid to start throwing elbows... REAL sportsmanlike...

Don't you think your experience with a single private christian grade school is a tad limited, Scheckelkn?

thefreebird- a degree from bethel means nothing special outside of the MIAC and the twin cities, being in business in a large metro area on the pacific coast, no one has ever heard bethel.  They have however have heard of the university of Wisconsin system.

What have they heard?  Good or bad?  Point being, I'm sure they have heard of Attica as well, but odds are they won't be looking for any alum from that institution.

BoBo

Oz, you bring back memories.  I had a classmate in Graduate School from Attica, he was rather straight-laced, certainly not a criminal.  His name was kind of Greek to me!

possible... but still, saying that they have the best sportsmanship because they are religious isn't fair either... I don't want to make a big deal out of it...

You defend UWEC's reputation by referencing the "Wisconsin system" - clearly as UW-whatever you can't say you graduated from THE University of Wisconsin - how do you explain it to people?  "I went to a much smaller school that is supported by the regental system of Wisconsin."  ???

I would never argue that Bethel - or any other MIAC school - is an educational panacea, but I don't think I'd ever recommend a kid go to UW-[fill in the black].  Why not attend a state's flagship institution if you're going to go to a state school?

Also, your BU/UWEC comparison leaves out what it costs an out of state student to attend UWEC - though I'm not sure how many out of staters select UW-[fill in the blank].

Back from the Land of no computers (my Mom's apt.), I am so pleased to see that UWW has won a great game, and had to overcome a small challenge which is good for character building!!  After all, we must be ready for next Saturday!!  Congrats to Justin B for being among the finalists for the Gagliardi award.  I plan to be at that dinner in Salem.  Hope to see you there!!!  And thank your OLINERS for their help in freeing you for those long scampers you made!!  Great game on Saturday.  Keep up the good work.  Planning on seeing you all soon with lots of brownies, of course!!!

In Wisconsin, some kids pass up the opportunity to attend Madison to continue their athletic career.  They want to play athletics, be competitive in their sport, stay in state, and get a good education.  From a scholarship standpoint, Madison is the only option in the state for football.

retagent

FWIW - Bethel is considered one of the more "on the edge" teams in the MIAC, reputedly getting more Personal Foul penalties called against than is the norm.

Being away from it for quite some time, I can see many reasons for going to one college over another. No matter the reputation, one should pick the college that best fits them. Whether it's closer to home, smaller enrollment, strong department in your field of study, nice campus  etc., etc., etc. It's an individual thing. Don't obsess over "reputation." It's usually more important that you went to college than which college you went to.

BashBro,

Great to hear on your travel plans.  I assume you'll have a wingman or two?  I hope so.

BoBo - any suggestions on hotels and/or good restaurants/pubs for Friday night?  Should we stay in Whitewater or surrounding?  Is FatJack's a fun place?  Any help would be great.  Thanks.

Would any of the local Whitewater guys on the board care to share some info with the Wabash fans on the NCAC board?  I'm not qualified to comment on matters like these.  Thanks.

Gotta love it. Sent the rich boys home with their tail between their legs.  CCIW stood no chance.  And no the all boys school from Indiana.  Why cant we just simulate to Salem?  Did Moriaty have more yards than Beaver this week?  GO BEARS!!!!

Heard the rich boys were really classy in their loss.  I hate Naperville.

Good luck to UWW the rest of the way!!   Too bad you have an idiot like above at your school!  I guarantee you that our tails were far from between our legs!  If anything, I think we proved that we can play with the big boys at times, but still have work to do!
