Whitewater over Stout
LaCrosse over River Falls
Stevens Point over Platteville

Blue Devil Bob:

Good to see you at your store the other day!  Good luck to the Stouties this weekend..they could do my Johnnies a big favor with a win over Whitewater.  SJU has the week off, then it is the hated rivals from UST in what I will predict will be coach Roney's final game before the ax falls!

Go Johnnies!

This week's pick summary so far:
UWL (15) vs. UWRF (2)
UWEC (15) vs. Oshkosh (2)
Point (14) vs. Platteville (3)
Whitewater (12) vs. Stout (5)

Looks like these games' favorites are pretty well determined. But this is the WIAC, and the second-to-last game of the season, so there's got to be an upset brewing in the games this week, right? Putting a smudge on all of our picks...

My picks:
UWSP vs. Platteville: The woes continue for Platteville. Pointers win.

Whitewater vs. Stout: Whitewater rolls again...

UWL vs. River Falls: Wow. When's the last time UWL lost four straight conference games? Won't happen this week. The streak stops at three, as UWL beats River Falls.

And in a game that should have a playoff feeling to it, since either team (if it wins the next two games) has an outside shot at an at-large-berth - UWEC vs. Oshkosh.

Well, the Lady 'Golds upset the Titans in the volleyball tournament, and the Golds and Titans are playing for the WIAC soccer championship on Saturday, too. So, UWEC is going for the hat trick this weekend against Oshkosh teams.

My football pick: Blugold football team to win in a squeaker. But man, payback is going to be coming on the hardwood, though...

Go 'Golds!

UdubO,

I'll accept that not having your starting QB against Stout didn't help. But to pull the injury card out and say it wouldn't have been close had he played isn't accurate.

The Devils were all banged up early in the year and specifically for that game. 3 starting O-Linemen didn't play, 2 starting LB's were out and Stout was using their back-up running back who was hobbling going into that game.

It's what every team has to deal with and the coaches have to coach through. Stout got healthy and now is playing well.

My point on bringing up the Titan-Devil game was to point out how one big play in an early season game affects the whole season. Oshy made the big play and the Devils didn't in that game. With or without injuries that game would have been as close as it was.

Stout just threw an INT returned back to tehir own 27.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

UWEC kicks 41-yard FG but UWO gets called for a Personal Foul.  EC takes points off the board and eventually goes for it on 4th and 1 and gets stopped.  UWO scores after 3 runs.  The UWO personal foul actually ends up helping them.  Moriarty runs through BG defense all second half.

Hats off to the Titans on their first winning season in conference in a long, long, time...

As a Blugold fan, dreading OT, because I figured it was going to be Moriarity to win it for the Titans in OT. He did, taking three carries for 25 TDs and the game winner. He was unstoppable today, with 300 or so yards rushing... Great game by the sophomore...

Hats off to the Lady Blugolds, too, who beat the Titans 2-1 today to win the WIAC conference soccer tournament and an NCAA bid...

WARHAWKS clinch 24th WSUC/WIAC Championship.  (thanks for the help Oshkosh)

Stout started out well by turning an interception into a 31 yard field goal,  then holding WHITEWATER to a 3 and out and converting a 3rd down play for a 42 yard touchdown and a 10-0 lead in the first quarter.  The WARHAWKS battle back though and a Jacobs to Pete Schmidt 16 yard TD pass put them on the board and the half ended with Stout on top 10-7, despite being outgained.  First half penalties 7/75 yards really kept the WARHAWKS from getting their offense in gear and we had some problems with Stout's stunting blitzs.

But the second half is an entirely different story as the WARHAWKS take the lead 19-10 on two Justin Beaver touchdown runs.  An 18 play, 8 1/2 minute, 80 yard drive, on the back of Justin Beaver, aided by two Stout penalties and capped off with a 1 yard plunge by fullback Travis Reuland put the WARHAWKS up  25-10 and ended what hopes Stout had.  Derek Brown returned an interception  about 80 yards to the end zone for the final score with less than :45 remaining  and the celebration began.

WHITEWATER didn't have it's customary 500 yards of total offense but did finish with 342 yards and the defense was outstanding holding Stout to 44 yards rushing, 163 total yards and two big turnovers in the second half.  I don't know how many tackles for losses they had but it was a regular occurrence.

Beaver finished with 207 yards on 47 carries.  Jacobs had an off day, in part because of Stout's defense but still finished 8-17, 103 yards and a touchdown.  Jimmy L had 3 receptions for 66 yards as Stout's corners played well.

Once the WARHAWKS went up by two scores it forced Stout to go to their passing game which isn't their style and was mostly ineffective there was no doubt about the outcome.

We've got to get this penalty thing cleaned up, 9-95 yards today.  PAT's were an adventure today as well as we failed to convert on three occassions.

WARHAWKS,WARHAWKS,WARHAWKS

Bring on the Falcon.

Hell of a win Oshkosh.  Mo couldnt be stopped.  ISO all the way down the field.  Hats off to the O-Line...they moved the D back, and opened up some big holes.  Now, its on to LAX.  Question for you all...With this win, and a possible win next week for the Titans, is there a chance of a playoff berth?
