A couple of things in regards to Whitewater's WIAC title clinching win today in Menomonie.  Both offenses had problems with footing on the artifical turf at Don & Nona Williams Stadium.  Many of the Warhawks switched shoes at halftime and boy did it make a difference. Hawks offensive line dominated in the second half.

After the game, Stout head coach Todd Strop paid Stan Zweifel's offense a very nice compliment in the game story as posted on the Stout website.

"No matter what year it is, Whitewater is going to have one of the best offensive lines in Division III," Stout coach Todd Strop said. "They also happen to have one of the best running backs in Division III this year."

Very classy by Strop and much appreciated.

By the way, Stout's cornerbacks were as good as advertised.

Congratulations to Coach Berezowitz and his staff on the WIAC championship, it has been a privilige to watch this team.

Two questions........

If WW wins next week, will they get a home play off game?

Any guess who they might play?

Pat,
Thanks for being on the show.  We really appreciate your candid comments.  Also, regarding our discussion about how good Whitewater is, after watching them dominate Stout for 3 quarters, I would suggest that they can be as good as anyone in the nation, and that might include that team that plays in that "dome" or "fair grounds" or whatever it is.

My hats off to the Warhawks. Sitting in the rain watching the game yesterday I was plenty impressed with the overall talent on the Whitewater team. I'll be rooting for them in the playoffs that's for sure.

Freeman, I have never heard anything negative in this community about Rob Weinstein. I know him personally and I think he is a great guy.

Thanks. You guys might want to talk about being just a touch less homer-ific on the game broadcasts, though. As a neutral party I found the second quarter painful to listen too, especially with the "Take that, Warhawks!" call. Doesn't that seem pretty silly in retrospect, with UWW scoring the next 32 points?

What I meant by great football program was the character of the players on that team.  And what they get out of football after leaving the program.  And who are the MWC or LMC and what teams play in them?  And Stetzer was on the top 10 all time list for passing yards even though he missed some games due to injury.

My bad, I guess I should have realized that great didn't mean winning at Platteville.   ;)  Every program has graduates with character who are successfull in life.  But it was late, I'd tipped a few and it didn't dawn on me that's what you meant.

MWC (Midwest Conference) = Monmouth, St Norbert, Carroll, Beloit, Ripon, Lawrence, Lake Forest, Illinois College and Grinnell.  You could clean up in that league.

LMC  (Lake Michigan Conference) = Concordia, Dominican, Edgewood, Lakeland, Maranatha Baptist, Marion, Milwaukee School of Engineering and Wisconsin Lutheran.  They're not organized as a football league though some of their members to play in other leagues.  That was my attempt at being subtle.  ;)

The question asked was who was the best WIAC player of the past decade, not who's on the  all-time top 10 passing yards list.  You said Stetzer.  I disagree.   But don't get me wrong, Stetzer was a good player.  I just think Scott Krause and Tony Beckham, both of whom played professionally, were better.   Of course, that's an issue that can be debated.

Weinstein does have a pretty "colorful" record, but that seems to be the case at several schools in the WIAC the last few years. Record or not, he played one of the best football games I've seen anyone play for a long time.

QuoteWhere's Stetzer played since leaving the WIAC?

Warhawkguy, Stetzer spent spring/summer 2005 playing for the Evansville Bluecats of the UIF League (www.evansvillebluecats.com) along with his former favorite target, Matt Kent, and former warhawk Darrell Jack. Stetzer has a degree in civil engineering, so if football doesn't work out, I'm sure he'll have success and a promising career in whatever he does. Pioneer fans, was that D-end that beat up Pio quarterbacks yesterday the same Dan Robinson that used to be a pioneer?

Freeman

Running Devils or Blue Devil Bob,

At the beginning of the seaon I asked about the status of Stout's OL Jay Runk since I didn't see him on the Blue Devil roster and found out that he had a knee injury.  Any word on how he is progressing?

hawkshawkshawks

Of course Weinstein had a good game, Beaver got to the second level every play, someone has to make the tackle.  When you run the ball that many times someone on the opposing D is going to look good statically.

runningdevils

Jay is doing better and will be back next season.  This season should be a medical redshirt for him.  I just hope he is capable of getting ahead of where he was last season, a dominant Offensive Tackle.

There are a few things to look at after the UWW-UWS game is over that will have decided it.
1. Time of Possession (2 best scoring offenses and defenses)
2. Penalties (The most penalized teams in the WIAC)
3. Special Teams (The top punt returners will be playing)
4. Turnovers (Both teams cause the most turnovers)

Both of these teams will try and mash it down each others throat.  It will be very physical and there will be some major penalties.  The top 6 scorers in the WIAC will be playing in this game. 4 of the top 6 defenders will be playing in this game.

Time of Possession  UWW 34:54  UWS 25:06
Penalties  UWW 9-95  UWS 4-55
Special Teams Punt Return  UWW 3-22  UWS 5-20
Kickoff Return UWW 3-36  UWS 5-108
Punt avg. UWW 32  UWS 40
PAT UWW 2-4  UWS 1-1
FG UWW 0-0  UWS 1-2

Turnovers UWW 2 Int./1 TD  UWS 2 Int.

Stats of the game
Third Down Conversion
Whitewater 10-17
Stout 4-16

Redzone
Whitewater 4-4
Stout 1-2

WIAC power I was at the game and the pass interference call was a good call and not just cause I am a Blugold fan.  It was really clear he was early and I think just cause it was 4th down you were saying it was a bad call.  Either way hats off to the o-line and the running back that was just a hell of a performance.

UdubO

that call was horrendous, after watching the tape Oshkosh's CB never touched the reciever and if anything the reciever cause the CB to not intercept the pass as it hit the CB right in the chest and the personal foul after the Blugolds QB ran out of bounds was questionable too because the QB tripped out of bounds and the Defender was running next to him and never touched him
