What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

So who is going to be Whitewaters QB next season?

And who is going to pick the starting QB?  ;)

On WarhawkFootball.com:

Ramant rumors over the past couple of days that Lance Leipold wants to leave UW-Whitewater for another head coaching job have been addressed by the first-year head coach of the Division III National Champion Warhawks.

According to a published report in Sunday's (1/13)Janesville Gazette, Leipold says he is not on the verge of leaving Whitewater after one year.

Minnesota State-Mankato, an NCAA Division II football program, has expressed some interest in Leipold for the school's vacant head coaching position.

In the story in the Gazette's Sunday edition, Leipold says, "They (Mankato) have expressed some interest, but I have not applied, nor have I had a telephone interview," Leipold told the Gazette Saturday. "The best way to say it is the contact with Mankato was through a third party recommendation."

"I am very happy at UW-Whitewater and plan on being here next season," he tells the Janesville newspaper. "What has been reported is NOT accurate and very premature.

In his first season as the UW-Whitewater's football coach and helped lead his team to the 2007 NCAA Division III National Championship with a 31-21 win over Mount Union College (Ohio) in last month's Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl.

On the heels of winning the national title, Leipold was named the 2007 Division III National Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and by D3football.com

That appears to address this ... thing.  Can we put a lid on the bye-bye's, now?

I wish he had left that "very premature" part off of his statement

Ya, but that is good enough for me.  If he didn't initiate contact, than I regret my jumping on him.  Success will put a spotlight on a coach and he can't contol his name being bantered around.  I do suspect that he won't retire a Warhawk if he can maintain success after the porgram is riding squarely on his shoulders in a few years but that is fine. Just not after one year when the success was more the result of many that came before him.

I would agree with you...in this day and age an aspiring young coach will probably eventually leave for perceived greener grass...after a few years is probably acceptable to most fans, but after one year...well we saw the reaction

Man, as a Mount Union fan and a Giants fan, I could end up REALLY hating the state of Wisconsin this year!

The other quote that reads a bit off to me was:

"I am very happy at UW-Whitewater and plan on being here next season,"

Why say "Next Season" if he plans on being here for the long run.  I could just be nitpicking here, but he could have been more direct on this.

But, with what happened to Nick Saben, maybe he was just choosing his words carefully.

Well, if he says "I plan on being here for 20 years", he'd probably sound overly cocky to some people.

If he says " I plan on being here for a long time", some might respond be saying "A long time can mean two years to some people".

Maybe he could say "I plan on being here until the Badgers or Packers make an offer".  Of course, that might hurt him recruiting in Illinois and other states ...

I'm not sure there is a quote out there that will give peace and harmony to everybody under the sun.  There's always different ways to look at a sentence (ask a politician).  I think what he said was fine, and will keep me thinking happy thoughts.  :)

True, it will be interesting to see if this evolves or dies.

There's only one way to find out if a man is honest...ask him. If he says 'yes,' you know he is a crook.

How 'bout til hell freezes over?...I hope the statement can put this thing to rest, too.  No matter what he said, it will not sit well with everybody and probably leave too much wiggle room for some.  At least it says "I like it here and I'm not out looking for a new job after only 1 year here." Just a little curious who this third party might be? Na, let's not go there!

Moving on...

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

I hope LL's comments bring closure to any remaining doubters!  ;)

Okay so to sum the whole Lance to Mankato thing up there were some phone conversations to gauge his interest, and thats it
NO I REPEAT NO INTERVIEW, and it is safe to say that Lance will be at Whitewater for a long time to come. let's remmeber that Barry Alvarez was rumored to leave every off season after the Badgers won the rose bowl after the 1993 season. If the Hawks keep up what they have going the same thing will be happening to Lance, and I am sure the other WIAC schools will try to use that to steal recruits as well.
Long live Lance, long live the whitewater warhawk football tradition of excellence
