You could say the ame thing about some fo the division 2 schools in minnesota especially sicne they cancelled the border battle after the WIAC schools destroyed them in the "boarder battle" Yet they still offer scholarships.
OK let's be careful when comparing Division III to Division II schools in Minnesota.
As I recall, the Division III Champions (Whitewater) lost by 10 to St. Cloud St last year.
St. Cloud, a Division II team from Minnesota, finished the season 4-7 (1-7 in conference).

That said, NAIA is a joke.

msubeavers

Well old Indian there are two or at leastw ere two differebt levels of division two schools in Minnesota or at least there were based on the number of scholarships that they gave. St. cloud was in the higher of the two,and the d2 schools in Minnesota that the WIAC schools played were in the smaller # of scholarship conference.
Starting this year I do not believe that is the case any longer as winnona state which was in the lesser of the two conferences has joined the same conference as Mankato state which was in the better of the two conferences.
It wasn't that long ago early 90's when all of the WIAC schools were actually NAIA schools.

Badgerwarhawk -

UWEC's site doesn't have the Sept. 13 game listed on the schedule yet, and lists the Nov. 1 game against the Warhawks as being in Eau Claire, since it was to be the conference game and it's the 'Golds year to host... Your site notes the Sept. 13 game and says it is EC, while the Nov. 1 game is a home game for UWW, but is now the non-conference one...

Any guesses as to why they moved the conference game to the beginning of the year, and will be playing the second game in Whitewater, as opposed to in EC, as orginally scheduled?

At first glance I thought it will be an interesting first two weeks for UWEC, as they play the Warhawks in week 2, after getting a rematch with Bethel in the first week; Bethel knocked the 'Golds out of the playoffs last year. But on second notice it's Bethel College, not Univerisity, that UWEC will be playing...

Don't know much about them, but they are an NAIA team coming off an 11-2 record, so it will make for an interesting trip to Tennessee for the opener as a prep for the 'Hawks...

North Coast Athletic Conference thread on the North Region board posted by a Wabash poster.  Said that Wabash was ranked #7.  He only mentioned those 3 teams so I don't have any idea about the full ranking.  I checked the Liddy's site before I posted that info also but they wanted you to buy the mag so couldn't confirm the rankings on the net either and running out to Barnes and Noble hasn't gotten to the top of my to-do list yet.    ;D

Thanks for the taking the time to respond.  Would you mind sending me a message if you happen to see the full list?

Wrong...  UWW stopped being NAIA in the mid 80's,  UWL was the last NAIA (at least that I can remember) and that ended in 90 or 91 about the same time the went from being the Indians to the Eagles (89' I think)

badgerwarhawk

Sorry Bulk, I don't know why the games were switched.  However my information came from the AD so I'm pretty confident that's the way it's going to go down.

a step above d3 and a step below division 2.

Give me a flippin' break.  Just because NAIA schools can offer some book money and a parking pass doesn't mean they play a superior brand of ball.  There are very few NAIA schools (besides Carroll) have the cash to offer the full allotment of 24 scholarships and most are probably not in the teens.

Do you know what the D3/NAIA head to head was the past two years?
Post #176.  D-3 23 wins versus 8 losses to NAIA schools

Just Bill

I don't have any info, but I would wager that the teams wanted to play the WIAC game first, so that they wouldn't have to play Vanilla offense/defense in the NC game in order to save their best stuff for the the conference game.  Since the conference schedule dictates that EC hosts WW this year, they made the switch to play the first game in EC and the second in WW.  That seems reasonable enough to me.

both teams with new qb's in an early season game, which could be very important. big game.

msubeavers

I know in the past when River Falls and Oshkosh did this in 2000. They played the non conference game first, and then the conference game as scheduled.
Who knows why the conference game is so early in september before the regular conference season starts.
Question for the warhawk fans, is DLK sponsoring a fan bus ;D ;D ;D

badgerwarhawk

No, I think DLK is picking up air fare.

No BW he is going to pay for the trip to pudget sound. Three planes. One for the offense, one for the defense, and then one for the special teams.

I don't know, but our new poster, msubeavers, seems to misspelling alot of words.  Is this the work of a poor-spelling poster who has used multiple user-names over the past couple of years?   The wording is also strikingly similar to an "interesting"  letter that was sent to me at my UW-W office last week.   Keep up the good work msubeavers, you are a credit to your profession!

WestCoast Coach

Well this should be a interesting game against UWEC the first go around since UWW will be starting with a new QB. They also have a Division 1 Running Back transfer who will be reporting to them in August. There team should not lose a beat.
