He's talking about Lakeland.

I'm tempted to make this a three-game weekend and see that game, then SJU/ETBU and UWL/HSU on Saturday. But not sure I can swing it mentally.

That would be such a great football weekend!  Just a reminder that Lax will be playing their homes games at Winona State this season, I believe, while they build their new stadium so it would be a slightly shorter drive there from SJU than to the UWLC campus.

Thanks BoBo and 413. I may show up, and as a tribute to 413, I'll cheer at least once for UWW in his absence

That would be great, Retagent.  + karma.  You put a smile on my face.  I guarantee a great experience.  We, Warhawk fan, absolutely HATE Lax and the feeling is totally mutual especially after the our boys tore their hearts out last year in that epic comeback! I consider it one of the best rivalry's in D-3.

..and, ah, retagent, don't forget to check the date of the game program before getting to your seat that you buy from the little con-artist outside the stadium.  If it's like last time, it'll probably be from last years Eau Claire game!!  :'(

Good memory there BoBo. Since I'm originally from Winona, my allegiance should be with LAX, Not only the proximity, but as was recently noted, they're playing their home games at Winona Stae. However, my exposure over the last couple years to the Warhawks, notwithstanding the program thing and the fact that they have beaten my Johnnies on both occasions where I have been present, I have the admiration of a football fan for the product they have fielded for the past three years.

Are there any pregame festivities for the home opener against SXU?  I am excited to be at the new perk for the start of the season!!

Their was no big snag in the Perkins Stadium turf project.  As BW alluded to, the Field Turf people are scheduled to start laying down the carpet next week.  Landscaping has also started.  No change to visitor seating at the Perk.  Same bleachers - just looks different with all the new concrete.

Interesting story concerning the potential health hazards of field turf. The problem deals with lead in the field turf surface. A couple fields used by children in New Jersey have been closed pending evaluation. Whether or not there is anything to this remains to be seen.  voice or badgerwarkawk, do you know the type of field turf being installed at the Perk; manufacturer, etc?

I would hope there is some plan to recognize the 07 Championsip team as was suggested awhile ago on here at some game if not the opener.  I know they have had a lot of recognition already (and the coaching staff may want to put 07 behind them but who are we kidding?)  ;) but there are many Warhawk fans who have supported the Hawks for all these years and were not able to be at Championship game or welcome home celebrations and they deserve to applaud and thank their team in their own house.  Afterall, the National Champion baseball and volleyball team (in 05 if I remember right,)  as well as the Championship wheelchair basketball teams have all been recognized at halftime in the Perk.  It would be pretty silly to not do it for the football team, IMHO.

The 07 National Championship will be recognized at UWW's season opener on 9/5.  Details will be released soon.

From what I understand, the problems with the Field Turf fields, all in New Jersey, were Field Turf fields (all high school).  It proved to be a very localized occurance and the remainder of Field Turf fields around the country have not shown similar symtoms.

Field Turf remains the #1 option for sythetic football field surfaces. Twenty-two of the NFL's 32 teams either play or practice on FieldTurf., including the world champion New York Giants and AFC Champion New England Patriots.  'nuff said!

Salem Stadium also has FieldTurf.

What I've always wondered about FieldTurf is the black powder you see rise into the air when tackles are made, etc.   I don't know what it is but I've thought it must be something connected with the rubber that is used in manufacturing the product.  It would seem impossible for players not to inhale some of that.  It's pretty obvious so there must not be a health hazard involved or we probably would have heard about it by now.
