Careful, retagent, hang around here too much and you are going to start to like it!   ;D

I actually feel he or others without a rooting interest in WIAC matters have a built in advantage in this pick'em contest.  The reason being, they make selections more with with their head than with their heart (or any other part of the anatomy they choose to use).

So, with that said, my mid-August forecast says retagent, should he be up to the challenge, will either come in first overall or last (if BDB doesn't beat him to it!)  ;)  I don't see him as a middle of the pack kind of prognosticator.

It may be just an Off-season thing, but it seems that there is a higher fun quotient on here than in the past. That may change once the pads start smacking and certainly if there appears to be a meeting looming for the Johnnies and UWW or another WIAC team. By the way, is there a regular season meeting on the schedule between any WIAC and MIAC teams?

9/13/08 UW-River Falls  @ St. John's 1:00 PM

If you ask me, I think it's kind of a shame to have only one game scheduled between the two conferences.  What do you think?

River Falls is predicted as 6th in the WIAC by the conference SID's.

Because they won't answer the phone............especially when the top of the WIAC calls! ;)  But Augustana will play Platteville.

I asked the CCIW board that same question last year and it was pretty much no reason... I mean, Carthage is only an hour away from Whitewater..

My understanding is that the Carthage president strongly discourages scheduling any of the Wisconsin publics in any sport (i.e., WIAC!) as a matter of principle.  As for the Chicago-land foursome, NPU should be excused until they greatly improve, but I can't speak for Wheaton, Elmhurst, or NCC.  As for IWU and Millikin, they can find much closer opponents.

Any ideas as to what principles he/she is trying to uphold?  Seems like rather odd (elitist?) behavior when everyone is playing under the same rules.  Is it all about the larger school enrollment numbers?

The only principle I ever thought Carthage upheld was NOT recruiting local talent.  After looking at their roster, there are only 4 players from the South East Conference (one from Kenosha Tremper, one from Kenosha Bradford, one from Racine Park and one from Racine Horlick).  It always bothered me that a college located in Kenosha would not recruit players from its own backyard, i.e. Racine and Kenosha.  I just don't get... and I surely do not respect it.  However, knowing what I know now, I'm proud to say I played in the WIAC.  I'm also proud to know we would distribute monkey stompings throughout the CCIW.

One more thing to add about Carthage College's football roster 2008...

Where the 154 players on the 2008 team come from

Illinois:  114 players
Wisconsin:  16 players
Indiana:  9 players
Michigan:  5 players
California:  4 players
Florida:  2 players
Minnesota:  2 players
Missouri:  1 player
Ohio:  1 player

16 players from Wisconsin?  Seriously?

Mr. Ypsi

You'll have to try to get a Carthage guy if you want more info - I've already told you as much as I know!  I believe the president thinks that publics have an unfair advantage in recruiting (tuition), but check with more knowledgable folks.

Carthage DID originally exist in west-central Illinois, but since the move was over 40 years ago, I can't really explain their preference for Chicagoland players rather than Wisky.

Warhawk 96

IMO, this is the same team that either lost to Lakeland or barely beat them the first time the Warhawks rolled up 70+ on them. To me it's as simple as trying not to be exposed as a joke when it comes to not scheduling Whitewater. As far as not recruiting local talent......you got me on that one. I bet it's simply to get more money for the landscaping around the stadium and they go to the suburbs in Illinois because they pay in cash. Also, they don't need talent to beat Elmhurst and North Park.

As a FIB I can speak from first hand knowledge... If you are trying to play competitive d3 football and you are from the land of lincoln.  Unless you have some sort of ties to a school you or your hs coach should know that any school in the CCIW or Midwest conference is not the answer...

Perfect example.. Derek Blanchard (sp) is from the northwest burbs of chicago and knew that he wanted to play good d3 ball.. Kid was a stud from the day he stepped on campus at Mount Union.

Also the CCIW is a joke because they will take any tom, dick, or harry into the football program.. Roster of 154 give me a break.. " Hey judy do you see my son he is the 3rd one from the left wearing #22.  I mean the fact that they will take as many bodies as possible is a joke..
