This out of La Crosse. Gus Almonroeder, the back-up QB who replaced Moe after getting wacked by Raebel in last years come-back win by UWW, is now a TE.  To summarize the article, Gus asks Coach Larry Terry how best he can help the team and Coach Terry "...told me flat-out that he wasn't sure if quarterback was where I could help the team," Almonroeder said.  So much for beating around the bush. But it has a happy ending because the article explains ALmonroeder is excited about the change because he'll get some PT.

St. Louis Rams made a couple cuts on tuesday - including one WR, but Derek Stanley is still on the roster.

I'm a little worried about Derek making the regular season roster. He has not returned a kick, or caught a pass the past two preseason games for the Rams.  I don't think he has even had a pass thrown to him.  In the words of the late Vince Lombardi - "what the hell is going on out there?!"

voice, he caught 1 pass for 6 yards in the last game vs the Ravens - stats.

Just checking out the schedule of the WIAC season openers and noticed that Eau Claire's opener at Bethel College, an NAIA school located in McKenzie, Tenn, opened their season last weekend with a home loss to Concordia College (AL).  Bethel was rated 6th in the pre-season NAIA poll, while Concordia was coming off a 2-9 campaign last year in only their 5th season of football.  Bethel was 11-2 and made the NAIA playoffs last year and was looking for similar results this year.

EDIT:  I think I discovered the reason for Bethel's loss.  They have no players on their roster!!  And still, they ONLY lost 23-18.  ???

That will be a running theme throughout the WIAC this year for most teams, I would suspect.  Last season's seniors were a combination of two classes, the red-shirt freshman from 03 and the true freshman of 04 who were the first class not to be allowed to red-shirt anymore by the NCAA. Should be a lot of fresh faces throughout the league and will make the Pick em's that much more interesting this season.   ;)

ff413, what about a pick'em invitation to kirasdad?  He's a psuedo-WIAC guy, like retagent.

Thanks for the thoughts BoBo but I don't think I'll have time this fall.  Just started teaching last year (left a software company) and am also coaching our Middle School FB team so I am up to my neck in work right now.

But, I appreciate the offer!  I am originally from IL and my sister and brother-in-law both graduated from UWW.

Good call, BoBo.  Of course, you would have been welcome, Kirasdad.  I am sure we would have all loved another chance to beat a Mount guy!   ;)   Left the private sector to teach and coach, huh?  What are you going to do with all that extra cash?  Seriously, your full heart will more than make up for the leaner wallet.  Congrats and good luck with the FB team.

Had I known you were originally from Illinois, ...na, just kidding.  Consider yourself invited the next time around...

...good luck to you and your team for a successful season!

Thanks to all for the wishes.  We are a new school, but I've got some athletes.  Just looking for some O Lineman.  We are just North of the Tampa area where most people call "Cow Country".  Not quite the Cornfields of DeKalb, IL but much more rural than Hillsboro and Pinellas counties.

I think we'll surprise some teams this year (trying not to be too optimistic).
