WIACPOWER,

Well said on the lack of attendance at Perkins Stadium on Saturday.  Those of us in attendance were shocked at the paltry turnout.  There were some that blamed the opening day of deer hunting that had an impact on the turnout. I personally don't think that was the case.  While having students pay $4 to get in rather than free with their school ID card is probably a primary reason for only about 150 students showing up, I don't understand the lack of adult fans in the stands.  The game received plenty of regional media coverage in the Fort Atkinson, Janesville and Madison newspapers.

I find it extremely ironic that a UWW student has no problem heading "downtown" on Thursday night's and dropping $20 or $30 on their favorite beverages, but can't find $4 to attend a football game with their friends on Saturdays..

Saturday's matchup between UWW and St. John's will be the feature game in the nation, and in my mind, the "biggest game" in Warhawk football history since the NAIA national championship game in Tulsa where more than 6000 WW fans were in attendance.  Again their will be no Badger game butting heads with the WIAC.

Not sure where that kind of fan has gone.  As WIACPOWER indicated in his post, it is not just a WW problem, it is systematic around the entire conference.

NO EXCUSES, get your butt to Perkins Stadium on Saturday. At least be a frontrunner!

Well said, Voice.  Get to the game, people.  This should be a doozy.  I'm really looking forward to it and the banter that will accompany it this week.  Two premier football teams squaring off!  I'm looking forward to everything but the drive!

Go Johnnies!

DufMAn and voice,

I glad to see some of the posters agree with me...but I don't think just talking about it here is going to do us much good.
Somehow the WIAC schools need to come up with a plan.  I hope they read this site!  It's not like this is a poor conference and crappy football,,,,it's always ranked as one if not the best in D-3.

I just feel bad for the kids that play just as hard or even maybe harder then the D-1 schools and get little support.

Hey I know...maybe they should raise ticket prices to $50.00 and charge $4.00 for a Coke!  That might draw the fans.

It's sad that the WIAC schools have up to 10X the student body of most MIAC schools, yet MIAC schools generally draw a much bigger fan base.  I know a few people that went to WIAC schools (UWEC, Stout) and it seems that students really don't care about the football program.  I don't know how to fix that, but it sucks.

I'm sure the Johnnies will travel a good number of fans, even with the holiday weekend.  We sure won't fill up that behemoth of a stadium, though.

Don't mind Mighty Royal, he's just bitter that Bethel can't make the paly-offs :P

The WIAC the BEST conference in the nation !!!! Are you serious !!! They may be above average but you need to look a little farther west for the best conference my friend........

The interest is also lacking in the local press.  In the Appleton Post Crescent, the write up consisted of two measley paragraphs about WW.  They did mention SJU and of course Lakeside.  They of course had 3 whole pages pertaining to DI and an article about the Auburn/Alabama game. They could have listed all 16 scores but did not.  Some better coverage in the state about the state schools would be a start but I don't see that happening either.
I may not have much to say, but I'll say it anyway.

MAICwatchmen,

We'll find out on Saturday who is best. Correct? No excuses for either team after the game!

Voice-  I agree we will see who the better team is after the game. I am not boast for the Johnnies a was just saying in my opinion the MIAC is stronger than the WIAC. Overall the top two teams are stronger. the bottem sucks ass but the top teams are good. I dont want to get in a bashing war with WW supporters or WIAC supporters so...... thats my 2 cents

If WW can't make any exuses, how will they explain the loss?  'We hung tight until half time but just couldn't keep up with the Johnnies after the half,' is pretty boring.  I suppose it will be the truth, though.

Regarding the attendence at Perkins Stadium, don't know why this year seems to be down but if I am not mistaken, UWW was 7th in D-3 attendence in 2003 and moved up to 4th in the nation last year, I believe.  Voice can probably confirm that info.  That is a history of fan attention that is pretty good if you ask me.  I really don't understand why more students don't attend the games but WW has had the rep in the past of being a suitcase school.  Also, there seems to be a direct connection to the drop in temperature.  Anyway, much as the team would appreciate a full stadium, somehow I don't think they play for that.  These boys are true football players who would hold the game in the parking lot if they had to!!  They play for themselves, they play for each other and they will play their hearts out on Saturday!!! As far as the Hawks not hanging with the Johnnies after the first half. PLEEEASE!!!  That is when they do some of their best work!!!!!

SJU will have no problem outdrawing the W-Hawks at Perkins.. hell, half of Stearns county think they're head'n to a breakfast restaurant!

All kidding aside it looks like a pretty fair match-up.... I'll give the significant edge to SJU.  Ya'all will play well however this Johnnie team is a bit too potent for an upstart WIAC club to overcome... your score vs the Dutchmen is quite telling.. too much experience in the Red and White.....

With the Chicago Johnnie Alumnie on notice we'll have plenty of "voice" in the stands.

"Johnnie Up" everybody.....

Warhawks fans, can you suggest a good place to tailgate by the stadium prior to the game this Saturday? Camp Randall would have been the ultimate, but since the game won't be played there, Whitewater will have to do.

You are also invited to join us for the Stiftungsfestivities. Bring a culinary delight to share along with the Wisconsin adult beverage of your choice.

Johnnie Red,

Looking forward to having you and "Johnnie Nation" invade southern Wisconsin next weekend.  As for tailgating, there are two large parking lots immediately adjacent to Perkins Stadium.  There is a nice grassy area surrounding the south and west limits of the lot.  Central fans had a large tailgate party on the westside of the lot.  You will be joined by a large contingent of Warhawk fans that will also priming for the game via the tailgate experience.  Drive safely down I-94/I-90 and we'll see you Saturday morning.
