From what I have been told, WW ran two basic TB sweeps in the final minute (easily stoppable) as UWRF still had its first unit in the ball game.  I have talked to one of the WW announcers - he tells me that the Whitewater announcers had already predicted that WW would go into the victory formation in the final minute.

Michael Z is outstanding - one of the best in the country.

Voice did screw up by saying Jake Anderson scored on his FIRST carry of the season.  When he doesn't have access to Live States he is terrible.  Maybe even with Live Stats.

Don't be so hard on him.  He wasn't off by THAT much.  :P
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Great game, warhawks!!!!  Falcons passed the ball much better than I expected.  Storm Harmon, (isn't that a great name for a QB?) had too much time most of the game to make things happen and he did quite often to Z.  Thought front 7 would put more pressure on him.  I watched on the Penn Atlantic site and yes, JF is right, the announcers were having a total melt down when the Hawks continued to play the last minute.  My opinion is that when you put in your seconds and thirds, only fair to let them play.  When late points are scored by back ups, oh well.  How do you tell them to take a knee? How about that Platteville/ Point score?  Must have been a hell of a defensive battle.  Pointers win 3-0!

fbf413, were they "professional" announcers or students on the call?

As the WW announcers, and I repeat my earlier statement, said about the 3 minute mark, the RF defense looked gassed - sounds like they weren't able to keep up with fresh legs by the time Spaulding and Anderson took it to the house from 67 yards out in 2 plays. They shouldn't be expected to just fall over and play dead, even if the River Falls 1st team defense was!

The question to Leipold on the postgame show about why were they running the ball like that with :50 seconds remain and not just running out the clock by taking a knee? - answer: giving the guys a chance to play that have worked hard all year in practice or in Anderson case, coming back from injury. I liked the answer.  I don't think they were running up the score.

If Leipold was sincere, why did he wait till the last 1:00 to put the kid in?  LOL.  When you're the national champs and winners of umpteen in a row, it's hard to keep the meglomania off the front porch and have enough humility left over to put your knee on the ground.  Think about this:  why did the UWW announcers ask the question in the first place? Because instinctively they knew they had just seen a face-job and wondered if LL had the conjones to admit it.

RT we are in the same neighborhood today. I'm in the big D at the Hyatt Regency on a business trip. This place was rocking last night and tonight the bar is packed with Longhorn fans hoping for the upset over Missouri. The talent in the bar is 500 times more impressive than the game  ;D ;D  D1 football in all it's glory.

Now if you would excuse me, I have to go to bed so I can get up at 4:00 am to go to the Cotton Bowl to start the tailgating.  Big game here in Dallas!!!  HOOK EM' HORNS!!!!!!!!!

dallas, hope your tailgating isn't quite as revealing as this one!!
I can remember in the 60's and 70's that hundreds of fans would be arrested off the streets of downtown Dallas on the Friday night before UT-OU.

I heard him as he spoke and I think he was sincere.  Badgerwarhawk said it best in his post, so no need to re-hash the point.

Look at the 4th quarter play chart

UWW's 4 possessions in the 4th quarter consisted of 18 running plays (the 1 pass play was negated by penalty) - 3 TD's and over on downs at RF 12 and end of game. Doesn't sound like a team trying to run up the score.

RF's 4 possessions in the 4th quarter consisted of 20 passes, 6 rushes (5 draw plays), 1 sack, and 1 fumble by Harmon recovered by UWW.

Coppage came out of the game after his 4th TD run at 13:42 mark.
Antwan Anderson took over the next drive (started at 9:28), ended in TD run.
3rd drive A. Anderson, Spauling, and J. Anderson listed as rushing, ending in over on downs at RF12.
Spauling and J. Anderson ran the 2 plays for a TD starting at :47 and then the final play to end the game.

Interesting to note, the last 9 RF plays (all passes) took a grand total of 39 seconds to run - all with the first team.

Don't deminish the effort of the Falcons today by crying foul.  They played a good game, but fell short.  It was a closer game than the score indicated.

I believe they were students or some equivilant.  Not professionals.  But they, too, thought the Warhawks were going to line up in a victory formation during the last drive.

BoBo, I remember being in Korea for the Viking NFC championship game in 2001, I woke up at 4:00 AM for it, luckily Monday was a day off, and I was drunk by 6:00, 41-0, God that was a awful day.
Everyday is payday in paradise.

...that was one of the reasons I enjoyed living in Germany and Italy...never having to get up in the middle of the night or early morning for a game.  I'm rather used to it now, living here as long as I have.

On another note the traveling squad for uww should make sure and take one randomly selected scrub from student section so he or she doesnt score at the end of the game because someones feeling might get hurt.

Jake Anderson is a player who was projected as the starting running back and then suffered an injury that benched him for the first month of the season.  By the time he's ready to play Coppage has already made D3's team of the week and been the WIAC's player of the week as well.  He's the talk of the league and leading it in touchdowns.  Antwan Anderson isn't far behind.  Meanwhile Jake's down to fourth on the depth chart.  He works his butt off to rehab the injury and works his butt off to make the traveling squad.  So he finally gets a chance to play and a coach is suppose to tell him to lie down, don't try and play, we just want you to go through the motions.  That's real fair to Jake isn't it.

After the St Xavier game the most frequent question being asked was is the offensive line going to be good enough.  Well, they've answered it in a big way.  Hats off to them and coach Dinkel, who incidently played and coached at River Falls.   They dominated RF's defensive front.
