I didn't see the game, only listened to it on the radio, but I disagree BoBo.  They did seem to have a rhythm going with the no huddle.  At least Voice and Gary thought they did.  I don't know if "befuddled" is the right word because we adjusted and were successfull against it.

I don't think their staff "blew it."  They knew full well they were outmanned and that they had to do something different to have a shot.   Sometimes we're slow at getting new personnel on the field and setting up the defense.  Other teams have tried to use that to their advantage too.  The fact it didn't work for the long term doesn't mean it wasn't a viable plan imo.  It worked better than their huddle offense and I was suprised that they didn't stick with it longer.  However in this case we were simply the better team and when Donovan stepped up with a career day they were doomed.  Not taking anything away from our defense though.  They were outstanding.

We have to get this penalty crap cleaned up.  Soon!  It doesn't matter when you're scoring 40-50 points but there's going to come a time when a defense holds us and it will matter then.

Also I just want to add my congrats to River Falls.  That was a hell of a good win and coming a week after the loss to us a tribute to their players and staff.

BoBo,

I disagree with your take on the Oshkosh no-huddle offense.  Watching the game, it seemed to me that Oshkosh had at least a LITTLE rhythm offensively.  But when your game total offense is just 113 yards for the game, - OUCH - thinking about it after seeing the statistics it really didn't make a difference.

Whitewater's Jeff Schebler is a perfect 9 of 9 on field goals this season.  Just a junior, Scheb's now has 48 career FGs and  is within four field goals of Ken Edelman's (Mount Union) Division III career record of 52 career field goals set in 1990.

Unfortunately I was not able to make this game...I would have liked to see the game in person. From the stats is seems as though Coppage was "controlled" with the exception of one long run. Was that due to the Osh D being able to stop him or the fact UWW did not need to run the ball that often? Unfortunately, my gut says the latter.

I remember UWW always having a swagger when they played (and justifyably so) but they never got a lot of penalties...their play did the talking (well, with a few exceptions...)whats up this year?

Hope Osh is able to bounce back just as they did after the tough loss to EC.

I think you can give your guys a little more credit oshfb.  Ceroni said the plan was to control Coppage and for the most part they did a decent job of that.  Take away the 44 yarder and he was 19 carries for 59 yards (3.1 yards per carry).  Aside from the 44 yard jaunt his next longest runs were 8 yards twice and he rushed for three yards or less 11 of those 19 carries.

Unfortunately for the Titan D they needed Donovan to bomb and he did exactly the opposite.  And that's great news for the WARHAWKS because if he keeps playing this way the task facing defensive coordinators becomes much more difficult.

I've complained about the penalties for three years running so I don't know that it's unique to this team.

Donovan had a really nice game and made some nice throws but thanks to the o-line he often had all day to throw the ball and the receivers were wide open a lot too...it seemed like on some of those short to mid range out patterns that there were no defenders within five yards of the receiver

I was fairly impressed that the UWW QB can have the time to star in "Burn Notice" and still lead the Warhawks to a, so far, undefeated season. Now that I see he's also in Changeling with Angelina Jolie, I'm not only in awe, but jealous too.

My bad, thanks for adding credit where it is due.

It wasn't just that he had time to throw and the Oshkosh DB's were like a sieve, he was hitting his receivers IN STRIDE, short throws or long throws, made no difference.  I don't remember a time where a wideout had to sit and wait for the ball to arrive or slow down and wait for the ball.  I'm not sure what the RAC amounted to, but I'd bet it was considerable.  One of the few things the Oshkosh tv announcers said correctly all day was saying their DB's were playing too far off the ball.  They didn't mask the fact that their game plan was to stop the run.  Great comment, bw, about the difficultly to defend the Warhawks.  I'm curious to see what Point elects to do this week.

voice, bw, my original assumption about the Oshkosh game plan sticks...7 first downs, 113 total yards...that is not being befuddled...because UWW didn't have an opportunity to do their normal substitution pattern on defense during the no-huddle situations, did nothing positive for Oshkosh. It will be interesting to see how they attack La Crosse this week...that's a pretty sad looking offensive in Titan land.

I'd say WW was on their heels the first drive by Oshkosh. If it weren't for a penalty and a dropped pass, they had it going. Check it out.

Jeff Schebler kickoff 62 yards to the UWO8, Jeremy Roach return 17 yards to
the UWO25 (Jay Hancock), PENALTY UWO holding 10 yards to the UWO15,
               1st and 10, UWO ball on UWO15.
      O 1-10 O15   S. Levonowich rush for 9 yards to the UWO24 (Christopherson).
      O 2-1  O24   C. McClelland rush for 7 yards to the UWO31, 1ST DOWN UWO (K.
                   Supianoski).
O 1-10 O31   C. McClelland pass complete to Jeremy Roach for 4 yards to the UWO35
                   (Jace Rindahl).
O 2-6  O35   Jeremy Roach rush for 7 yards to the UWO42, 1ST DOWN UWO (Jace
                   Rindahl).
      O 1-10 O42   PENALTY UWO false start 5 yards to the UWO37.
      O 1-15 O37   S. Levonowich rush for 6 yards to the UWO43 (K. Supianoski).
O 2-9  O43   Jeremy Roach rush for 3 yards to the UWO46 (Jace Rindahl).
O 3-6  O46   C. McClelland pass incomplete to Jeremy Roach, dropped pass.
      O 4-6  O46   Kyle Calhoun punt 28 yards to the UWW26, downed.

Ok, so if that's the definition of a "short time" so be it - time to move on.

Derek Stanley update from STLtoday.com  Good news; he was at the hospital getting checked out, but was allowed to leave without spending the night.

A fan comment said this..."I'm glad Derek Stanley is ok...Even though that shot on him was legal; it was still kind of dirty to blind-side him like that..."— guitardrums,  6:50 pm October 20th, 2008

I hope DS will be ok and can get right back into the flow of things.   It would be a real shame for him to miss time after he's worked so hard to make the game day roster.   For players on the fringe that can be a bad thing.  Good luck, Derek.

God I love football.  You take away the run or in my opinion contain it a little then give up 300 yards passing in the first half and get embarrassed on your home field.  That is why its the ultimate team sport.

Never understood, how people say except for that long run.  That was part of the game and happened so why doesnt that count.  Some RB's make careers and chipping away and then breaking a long one.

Who does UWW have for Homecoming?
