Maddog,

He broke his collar bone, I think third time in three years if I remember correctly.

I am glad Rob is still playing.  He is such an inspirational leader on the field.  He is a great guy to have on your team.
I mean the guy played for the last undefeated WIAC team, red shirted the year before that, injury-redshirted, was injured again, coached, and is now, finally, a Junior!  Nowhere else can this happen than UWS.

runningdevils

Enough of the complaining from last week.  IMO, the WIAC is not as strong as it has been in the past.  As for next week, I will give out the answers to the test early again. jk

Illinois Wesleyan @ Eau Claire...UWEC rebounds in a close one
La Crosse @ Howard Payne (TX)... UWL wins against Texas, but will be TOO Close
Concordia (WI) @ Oshkosh...Oshvegas, No Doubt
Platteville @ Stout...UWS in the lone conference game
Concordia-St. Paul (MN) @ River Falls...UWRF pays for playing D2. Concordia wins
St. Xavier (IL) @ Whitewater...UWW wins and becomes front runner in WIAC

PointSpecial....I took your advise and went to the Hill Top Bar & Grill Friday evening after watching both UWSP and HSU do their walk-throughs.  It was a very enjoyable meal, thanks for the referral.  I also enjoyed a great meal Saturday evening at a place called Grazies.  To any of you WIAC fans traveling to SP this fall, I recommend either place but you may really want to try the Italian food at Grazies (also out on East 10).  Just be prepared to wait at either place.

Warhawk......After looking over Sentry World I was really wishing for an extra day and my sticks.  I think that would have topped off what was a very enjoyable trip nicely.

ddawwggss.........what can I say?  Contrary to your opinion, the Pointers played a very good football team.  Keep in mind, this is a team who was also playing their first game of the year, loaded the bus around 3:00 AM Friday morning, drove 3-4 hours, boarded a plane and flew for about 3 more hours, loaded another bus for another 4 hour drive pulling in to Stevens Point about 5:00 Friday evening, and had to stay in a hotel the night before the game.  The turnovers were even and the Cowboys had 12 penalties for 99 yards to the Pointers 1 penalty for 5 yards (which came with about 6 minutes left in the game) and the Cowboys still managed to control just about the entire game.  The Cowboys missed several opportunities as well.  Maybe the Pointer coaches went two deep on the roster to try to stay with the Cowboys who went two deep at most positions except quarterback throughout the game.  The Cowboys are as beatable as any other team in D-III, including all the teams in the WIAC....2-3 losses in the WIAC....I don't think so....but thats why they play the game.  That would be as many losses than the Cowboys have had in the last two years combined.  And what did the WIAC champs throw up last year....7-4.

Cowboyz, thanks for the summary of the Cowboys travel.  That was a long trip!  HSU did well.  How were the weather conditions?  Any cooler than Abilene?

ccowboyz1

Ralph,

The only way the weather could have been perceived to be any better would have been on the golf course.  Sunny and around 75-78 degrees, no wind.  The metal stands reflected the heat a little but it was never unbearable.  I'm sure the boys got a little warm, but nothing like if they were at home.  Stevens Point was a great place to visit.

warhawkguy

Cowboyz....Too bad, you missed playing a very challenging course.

I was looking at next week's schedule today and noticed that Platteville travels to Stout  to play what appears to be a conference game because they aren't scheduled to meet on any other date during the season.   I also noticed Platteville was idle on 10/1 when everyone but Stout (vs. Waldorf) is playing in the conference.

It seems unusual to start the conference season after only one nonconference game and Platteville appears to be a game short on a full season.

Anybody know anything about how that came to be?

runningdevils

I believe Stout and Platteville agreed to change the dates so Stout could have a full slate of games with the Waldorf game carrying forward from the previous year.

Kestrel--I realize we did not HAVE to have anything on our site, but last year we had SOMETHING. Other WIAC  sites at least have SOME info. about the  upcoming season.

Veek--Thanks, and yes the tennis facility is a great improvement. The coach is a real go-getter and a promoter. It will be much easier for him to recruit now. You may have noticed the picture of his kid, Landon Lueck, who has been on several Real World tv episodes, not something I watch myself (too old), but he's a "celebrity" in today's world.
WORLD'S OLDEST FALCON FAN.

MESSAGE TO RECRUITS:  IN DOUBT? ENROLL AT STOUT. DON'T CARE? GO TO EAU CLAIRE. AT A LOSS? TRY LACROSSE. FEELIN' OUTTA JOINT? YOUR PLACE IS POINT. DON'T LIKE THE REST? DO WHAT'S BEST!

GOT BALLS? PLAY FOR THE FALLS!

My picks for this week:
Con. St. Paul over River Falls... probably another blowout
Stout over Platteville... not sure how Stout lost this one last year. It sure won't happen in Menomonie
Oshkosh over Concordia... another blowout as well.
Whitewater over St. Xavier... no Illinois team should ever win against the WIAC  8)
Howard Payne over LaCrosse... new head coach will have his work cut out against LaCrosse. I'm afraid home field advantage will do it though.
Eau Claire over Ill. Wesleyan... again with the Illinois teams

falconforlife- do you have any reasonably honest picks from last week so I can keep your total up with everyone else?

Maddog,

Well that definitely hurts UWEC.  Looks like their offense needs a lot of work.  What's up with barely any rushing yards against SJU?  With their size, I would have thought to have seen better.

Pick 'ems for Week 2
UWEC beats Illinois Wesley
UWLaX brings some pain to Howard Payne (ha .. couldn't resist myself)
UWO beats Concordia
Concordia St. Paul beats UWRF
WW beats St. Xavier
UWP over UWStout
Echoed from the caves beneath the Worlds Largest M:  Look to see the flying circus grounded as a young o-line learns some hard lessons from stout's blitzkrieg but make it up with some hard runners out of the back field.
