News on several prep players headed the WIAC's direction:

For some reason the North Dakota School of Science struck me funny.

Just as an example of how badly walks and hit batters can hurt you in the WARHAWK/Millsaps game the WARHAWKS walked 9 batters and 2 were hit by pitch.  Of the eleven nine eventually scored.   Ouch

Thankfully badgerwarhawk and stoutguy?/Bluedevil Bob?/whoever? did not formally accept the terms of my recent offer of a wager. Amen.

So, Kestrel, have you been hearing anything about young Z?   Just wondering.

kestrel

Transferring to Dubuque. He made the announcement  to Coach O'Grady when final exams were done last week. O'G apparently emailed the entire staff and team with the news and gave the young man some "cover" by noting that tuition at Dubuque is free for the children of faculty. Nevertheless there are some folks feeling betrayed around here since Z went through spring drills without a hint (and looked sensational, I'm told). It was obvious the passing game for next fall was being built around him and now....poof....he's gone. (My source  quoted O'G, "We're going back to the Wishbone." I presume there was a little bitter humor there.)

On a related note, Warhwks Bruce Langer and Justin Spaulding may be going to Dubuque, too, along with standout TE from Whitewater High School.

That could be a huge loss for Whitewater.  With Donovan's academic concerns and talk of Langer leaving the QB position is not in very good shape at Whitewater this year.

BoBo

As has been already mentioned on here many times, Packerfan07, UWW have at least a couple QB's coming in, transfers from Northern Michigan and from Sierra JC in California - I don't know for fact, but that might have something to do with Langer leaving, he saw the writing on the wall.  Furthermore, badgerwarhawk, has indicated that Donovan is expected back in the fall (bw wouldn't say something like that if it wasn't going to happen) - and should go into camp as the starter. Spaulding is probably no higher than 3rd on the depth chart, so that might explain his departure - outside of injury, he wasn't going to see much playing time for the Warhawks. Whether it's Dubuque or just about anyplace else they end up will allow them an opportunity for playing time and to contribute immediately.  Unlike young Z, I doubt their tuition will be comp, though!!   ;)

A.J. wrote a great article.  I agree with it completely.  People will always be jealous of athletes.  They are special people and always will be.

It's what I read into AJ's opinion letter.  To me, I thought he was implying that coaches on the staff will come down on players for missing anything football related including class/labs/etc.  After reading the letter again I believe my initial reaction was off the point AJ was getting to.

I'm sorry that it came to be, Kestrel.  But it was probably inevitable.

Donovan will be eligible.  You can bank it.
Though we have time invested we won't miss Langer all that much.  The latest I've heard on him is that he plans on remaining in school and doing the student thing.  But either way we'll get along just fine.
With Coppage and A. Anderson and J. Anderson on the roster and the usual assortment of running backs that WHITEWATER brings in year after year Spaulding is probably fourth on the depth chart and his  playing time was going to be limited.  I suspect that he saw the writing on the wall.  He's a nice player but not one that we can't do without.

Miles Hookstead (Whitewater High School tight end) would have been a nice recruit to land but you don't get them all.  He's got adequate speed, great hands and he's athletic but he would have needed to bulk up some to play TE for us.  However I've said many times that he has WIAC tightend written all over him.  I know that Stan Z was recruiting him for Mankato so it wouldn't surprise me to see him land in Dubuque.   He's a good kid and I wish him the best.

See what I mean, Bobo?  We didn't have to wait long for someone else to make the point I deleted, did we?  The difference being, of course, that I meant to highlight it as an issue while Goo means it as an obvious fact of the proper social order.

Mike Z will be missed in Red and Black!  His 176 receptions for 2035 yards and 14 TD's over 19 games in 2 seasons is going to be quite difficult to replace.  Should make gameplanning the Falcon offense a little less worrisome for WIAC coaches without 21 on the field.  Would have been great to see him totally dominate the WIAC for two more years.  Best of luck to Mike Z, receiving records should be flying off the walls in the Iowa league.

Nope, but with the addition of these guys it should make Dubuque a contender for the IIAC crown. It should be interesting to see how this plays out. Langer to Mike Z and Hookstead for the passing game, Spaulding running the ball, plus all of the other additions we know Z's going to get being the recruiter that he is. Even though Spaulding was the third or fourth string running back he is a GREAT athlete. It's truly amazing the amount of talent we have at running back. I remember Justin winning games for Milton seemingly by himself as a punishing safety and a lightning quick running back. If given the opportunity to shine at Dubuque, I wouldn't doubt that he'll be one of the top in that conference.

Badgerwarhawk, what the heck is this all about?

(ALLIANCE, OH)—Cedarburg (WI) High School senior Zak Suhar has committed to attend Mount Union College and compete on the football team this Fall.
Suhar, a 5-11 170-pound kicker/punter, was a three-time letterwinner and two-time all-conference selection for Coach Brian Leair at Cedarburg (WI) High School.   In 2008, Suhar was 34-of-35 on extra points and 7-for-8 on field goals with a long of 44 yards.  Suhar plans to study environmental science and he is the son of Richard and Barbara Suhar of Cedarburg, Wisconsin.

Now look what he's started. We will start taking WI kids in OHIO? A tight end perhaps, a wide receiver, maybe even a running back. Must not have heard of WW, you should work on that a little. ;D

Or maybe he heard too much. :P

Know anything about this kid beyond the publicity info listed?

What next, we'll be getting QB's that want to transfer in for their senior year. ;)

Actually glad to have him we were running short on kickers.
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

badgerwarhawk

Sorry, I don't know a thing about him or if we were attempting to recruit him.  Cedarburg is usually a pretty decent program.

This makes us even.  We landed a recruit (defensive lineman) from Indiana (I think it was) last year who was also being recruited by Mount Union.

Congrats.  Acutally better you.  The WIAC school he would most likely have gone to to study enviromental sciences is Stevens Point.  We wouldn't want that.  ;)

the champ is here to stay

I have to admit I was LMAO when I read this as it's d3 football and you don't commit or sign anything. If I got into MUC and wanted to go out for football all I have to do is show up the first day of fall camp, and I could try out.
I rememebr one kid whose name I will not mention b/c he is still on the team that signed a supposed LOI(Letter of Intent) and faxed it to us. Brez had no clue what was going on, because like I said that type of stuff does not happen at the division three level.
