I'm looking forward, considering that the Falcons are still unbeaten this season, to the Johnnie game, However, after reports of a dismal performance in the scrimmage with UST last Friday, perhaps looking backward on Sunday will not be as pleasant. I understand that Tim Brewster was in the stands at the scrimmage to watch his son at UWRF, and to check on a couple of U. of M. transfers to UST.

It will be good to have the stands full, even tho many (most?) of them will be Johnnie fans. I hope we get off to as good a start as we did two years ago (10-0, Falcons, at half), because we'll need it.

I'm disappointed that the four game series with St. John's is over. We replace them with UST, who, according to rumors here, have aspirations to equal Mount Union's program. Don't they first have to equal St. John's?

UST(D) has a very long ways to go to reach either.   :o

Here's UWW's media guide if anyone is interested. Very detailed.

UWW roster is out....http://www.uwwsports.com/roster.asp?path=football

The two names missing that made an impact (in my mind) last year are Jay Hancock (for his work on special teams) and Sam Markham (saw some quality playing time on the d line)

Interesting that three players return from the 2007 team that weren't on the 2008 team....Chris Kneeland, Kevin Utz, Brian Gensrick.

I am struck by the number of Illinois boys, several from large, highly respected programs in the Chicago area.  24 if my calculations are correct which is a big increase over the last few years.  Very fertile recruiting ground only a few hours away from Whitewater.  I am guessing playing on ESPN might have gotten their attention.   ;) ;D

There are 40 freshmen and 24 sophomores, roughly 2/3rds of the roster

I don't think that is too unusual, BW. Maybe 2/3rds is a little high but I had a coach tell me years ago that they are more likely to cut an upperclassman who they know has reached his potential than an underclassman whose upside is yet to be determined. Or are you just making a point that the Hawks will have talent for years to come?   ;)

Both, I was somewhat surprised the number was that high and thinking that we've stocked the shelves for the future as well.

I think I found an intercollegiate sport that I was actually in shape for in college. If only I went to Bethel College (Tenn.)   :D

I recently saw the National College Bass Fishing Championships on Versus...maybe the WIAC should adopt this new 'sport'  8)

Former Warhawk Jeff Jagodzinski dismissed as offensive coordinator at Tampa Bay...maybe he should have stayed at Boston College

There was talk on here earlier whether a WIAC school could honor a redshirt year from a kid transferring in from a D2 school.

In the Dubuque Telegraph-Herald today... http://www.thonline.com/article.cfm?id=255396

The Platteville coach talks about how they "cut" a player last year so that he wouldn't burn up eligibility.  He went through spring drills and now will be a sophomore with freshman eligibility for football.  Is this a common way WIAC schools get around the redshirt rule for D3?

badgerwarhawk--what's the word on Taylor Edwards, transfer  from WW and a Janesville Parker grad? He starts at rb for us Sat., and was Eric Brewster a Warhawk a year ago? He starts for us Sat. at WR.

Johnnie fans:  you may be interested in Coach John O'Grady's assessment of SJU (http://www.uwrf.edu/sports/Football 2009/FB.9.3.2009.mp3). Among other things, he says the "untold story" of Johhnnie fb over the years is their defense. Over the last 14 years they have limited teams to an average of 14 pts. per game. OG calls that "fantastic."
