BTW, have you seen the size of the boys coming to Whitewater next week?
Here's an example from Midland Lutheran College:

#79 Everett Corley  OL 6'9" 416 Freshman Washington D.C.

I assume 'OL' means he "IS" the offensive line, but it doesn't clearly indicate that on the roster.

It's good to see you back on the board, BoBo. I'm sorry for your family's loss.

Midland Lutheran was a school I hadn't heard of before, but they certainly do have a diverse roster, with players from Hawaii to the UK, and numerous states in between represented. Why do they draw from such a large area?

Congrats to the WIAC schools for their successful performances yesterday.

Thanks coco.

Frankly speaking, I never heard of Midland Lutheran, either, before seeing it on the Warhawks schedule.  I guess the state of Nebraska has more to offer than meets the eye...who would have imagined that?  There's got to be an incredible array of English accents assembled on the practice field when they get together.  But, what do I know, I'm not a linguist.

13 for 130 penalty yards.

I know it's the first game and this sort of thing can happen.  But we need to get it cleaned up in practice this week.  13 is just too many and 130 yards is too many yards to give back.

We seem to talk about this every year. penalties have plagued this team over the past couple of seasons. Fortunately UWW has overcome this obstacle with solid play on both sides of the ball. I would like to see them iron this issue out over practice, like BW said.

Based on the box score looks like Anderson got the majority of the carries over Coppage. I'm guessing that's b/c Coppage just couldn't get things on saturday. Hopefully Levell will bounce back this week.

Plus he's easy to spot on the team picture at the top of the link. He's head and shoulders above everyone else. didn't know Washingston DC had a nuclear power plant near by... ;)

MUC typically is also a highly penalized team.  I don't watch the games live enough but some have said it is because they are more aggressive and thus get more calls on them.  Either way I think that is one of the only chinks in the Purple Raiders Armor and do wish they would cut down on the flags.  But it hasn't seemed to hurt them so far.

If they can't tidy things up a bit, we could be in for an extra long game.  Midland Lutheran exhibited similar trouble in their season opening win over Concordia (NE) 12-10.  The Warriors committed 14 penalties for 114 yards.

I too go nuts when I see the Raiders penalty yards. But I had to look twice on Saterday...2/30yds. Did the earth stop spinning on it's axis? >:( Were the three blind mice working in stripped shirts? :D

Jay, I will point out that their lowest total in the past 9 years was 2003--the year they lost to a team that could barely sneak past UW-RF this season.

Maybe they should work on committing MORE penalties.

To give them the benefit of the doubt they only played in 14 games in '00,01,02,03, 13 games in ,04 and then the new format of 15 games came into play after that so it explains a little about the increase..playing 15 games a year does have it's drawbacks. ??? ;D ;)

I do like the new trend for '09.

Royal Purple posted an article on Coppage and Anderson today.

And it has nothing to do with the weight room  ;)

Congrats to all for a WIAC sweep this weekend.   With the fight RF put up against the Johnnies and the decisive win by Oshkosh over Ripon, parity is alive and well in the conference and we showed, once again, that we deserve our, "toughest conference in D3," title!

I'm a little late with this but I was just wondering what the definition of "sweep" is in this context. (Congrats to all for a WIAC sweep this weekend.)  ???

Do ya just have to get close? ::)

Eau Claire fans, if you are making the trip to Collegeville this Saturday, you are welcome to join us for the Stiftungsfestivities tailgate party located in the parking lot above the scoreboard end of the field. We usually get things going around 10:00 a.m. Bring a culinary delight to share if you like.

WIAC Athletes of the week:  http://www.wiacsports.com/football/athweek.htm

Congrats to Jeff Donovan and the others

Voice has some nice info about Jeff's play over the last six games...http://www.warhawkfootball.com/newswire.asp

"Through UWW's last six games, dating back to the Hawks' 2008 NCAA Division III playoff opener vs. St Johns (Minn), Donovan has been on an absolute tear.
Including Saturday's victory over Dickinson State, Donovan has completed 101 of 154 passes for 1,313 yards, 8 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. That is a .656 percent completion average.

His last two games (2008 Stagg Bowl & 2009 season opener), Donovan is 51 of 70 (.728 completion average) for 606 yards."

Early last season he was throwing the ball down field into coverage. I think he has learned that he doesn't have to do that with the Hawks' defense and running game.
