I'm surprised that UWL had so much trouble with Hope. Carthage handled them faily easily in their first game, and Carthage has never been all that tough. It may be that UWL is not the powerhouse they have been in the somewhat distant past, but more like they have been in the past two or three years. The possibility exists though, that Carthage has a good deal of returning players and is stronger than usual. I guess what I'm trying to say is, You never know, and the game isn't played on paper, or in the past. As someone has already pointed out, USC knows this only too well.

My Johnnies were expected to have a very strong defense this year, but have many questions on offense, yet it looks as though they might have to outscore their opponents this year, rather than hold the score down. I guess we can't all be as sure of ourselves as the Warhawk fans, but that's why they play the game.

retagent, pay attention  ;) . It wasn't La Crosse having trouble with Hope.  La Crosse had an easy time with open date.  It was Eau Claire having the difficult time with Hope...you know the Eau Claire that nearly beat your J's !!!   ;)  Kinda makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Sorry, it's late and I read three pages , and got confused. Mea culpa. The general thoughts are still valid regardless of my specific errors.  -- and your final statement, although gratuitous ;), just adds to the vagueries of this game we love.

You know what makes me wonder?  How all you UWW supporters can be so cock-sure when you team failed to escape this weekend with a win.  A bit of humble pie from you mere two game winners after three weeks of the season, please.

Not gratuitous, just simply stating a fact that will undoubtedly run through the minds the many who follow this game we love. I'm sure you'll feel different in the morning. Comparing scores during the season is a prerequisite of being a football fan, (eventhough it's usually like comparing guavas to avacados), as is complaining about the ranking in the top 25 polls and an officials blown call in a game 3 years ago. No one likes it, but we all do it anyway.  But, regardless of that, do I need to remind you that this is a message board - last I checked, gratuitious statements were the norm around here.  I would say wake up and smell the java, but you're probably going to sleep!!

Gee maybe it was a little to late for you too BoBo, and yes, I did go to sleep. My "gratuitous" was followed by the wink, which meant that I realize exactly what your reply said. That's the trouble with written statements, they can't include nuance and inflection. Also, I guess that we agree, but again, you didn't catch my tongue in cheek remarks. That's exactly what I was trying to say. We do all the score comparisons and head to head to head thrice removed comparisons, intellectually knowing it doesn't mean that much, but we still do it because it's fun, feeds our emotional attachments to our teams, and allows an outlet for our irrational fandom. In the end, it all doesn't mean that much, which is why we can do it without much real consequence.

At any rate, I hope to come to watch UWW dismantle UPS Saturday. I'm sure the Warhawks will not disappoint.

Yea, it was rather late for me, since I was just about to take my power nap following lunch!  I'm not too good at deciphering the meaning of emoticons. I'm glad your last post didn't use any - as a result I think I understand you perfectly now!

I can't wait for your recap of the UWW/UPS game.  Dumb question, but, do you think UPS will travel well? If so, how many of those brown trucks do you reckon will fit in the Perkins Stadium parking lot? Give us a full, unbias report if you could!! On second thought, just give us a full report!!  ;)

Several years ago our volleyball team played UPS during the NCAA post season tournament in WHITEWATER.  Each time UPS would score a point their fans, mostly parents, would chant "UPS, UPS" and our students would respond by chanting "FedEX, FedEx."  You probably had to be there to appreciate it but it was sort of funny.

We won the match but I'll never forget the UPS 5'6" outside hitter with a 42" vertical.  She could sky.

I was wondering when the UPS jokes would start. Ship them back to the Great Northwest, send them packing yada yada yada......

Glad we're back on the same wavelength BoBo. I seem to remember we got off on the wrong foot, but now I do enjoy the banter.

By the way, Carthage did not handle Hope. They came from behind with two TD's in the last 8 minutes, including one with :50 left to win, 26-19. Hope is not a bad club. Having said that, the jury is still out on UW-EC as well. The games @ SP and @ WW will obviously tell a lot.

Well there won't be much of a story to tell after the UWW match up. Beat down at the Perk will be the headlines IMHO.

Although I'm sure you're joking, I thought I'd throw in that UPS didn't have a whole lot of fans at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday.

Pat,
Can I start a pick em ?   More UWW cheerleaders or UPS fans ? I'll take UWW cheerleaders by 4.

Sure it's early in the season, but typically it's hard to consider a 0-3 team anything other than bad.  Now, if they run off 7 wins to finish the season, then we can say they have a rather bad conference!!  ;)  But, by doing so they could still win that conference and get a playoff date with MUC. Hope and UPS might be a more competitive game.
