[That loss may have been a driving force as he moved on with his life......I think that loss was as tough as they come

So you figure three losses mean nothing to our guys?  Yet to a man they shook hands and congratulated the winners.  Adversity defines character.

Tough break for Derek but those of us who wear WARHAWK PURPLE are proud of what he accomplished.

I meant to come back to this earlier baderwarhawk. By no means did I mean to diminish the pain of a loss for your guys...Pierre did have a streak about him that was not really MUC like in the over all scheme of things. He had skills and could have been more "like he had been there before" but....he wasn't, it's too bad he acted that way at the end.
I too hope Derek keeps on with his dreams in the No Fun League. He definietly has skills.
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

Let's see ONU has a victory over the #4 team in the country in week 1 vs Dickinson State and Midland Lutheran.....who? Those teams really strike fear and a high level of competition. Enjoy those victories.

They certainly do but no where near as much fear as juggernauts Heildelberg and Muskingum.  ;)

Ummmm. I believe he was talking about the opponents that aren't in-league games.  ;D

However, I have no problem with scheduling easier out of conference games if I were playing in your league.  That is no joke.

TFR, you seem to believe they schedule easy NC teams because the WIAC regular season is rough.  The WIAC is rather brutal – but IMO that doesn't factor into the schedule making process..

This isn't really that hard people. Teams like UWW (due to their recent national success), and to a lesser degree UWL and UWSP, don't go out trying to schedule 3 easy NC opponents.  They take who they can get.  Everyone knows that most (careful raiderguy!) D3's, especially those who think they have a decent team, won't come anywhere near the top of the WIAC. Ok, the mouths at UMHB want everyone to know it was they, the Cru, who wanted to continue the series with UWW, but UWW refused.  However, I believe the interest lies in the fact that they haven't been able to beat the warhawks and it must really be a thorn in their ego and downright irritating to them. I'll offer my farm on a wager that if they had been able to beat the warhawks, they wouldn't want any part of UWW until the playoffs – but that's an argument for another day.  If you want to play UWW every year, join the WIAC! Anyway, the top of the WIAC (and no, I don't include EC and RF as part of that group) is forced to schedule D2's and NAIA that we all know are suspect, due to the fact that there is nobody left to play.  Let's be honest, Midland Lutheran, Dickerson State, Azusa Pacific, MO S & T (& let's throw Central in there for stepping up with UWSP this year) are playing the top WIAC schools to gauge where THEY are as a team, not the other way around.  And that is no joke!

I'll admit to gratuitous, and maybe a little bilious. That's what I do.

Every year we have to go through the "No one wants to play the WIAC teams" whine. Not that there's not merit in the whine. It would seem to me that the teams in the CCIW and MWC, and to a lesser extent the MIAC and IIAC should want to schedule against the WIAC. It would give them stiff competition (as a rule) that should actually make them better when they start their conference schedules. There are a few good teams in those conferences, and as long as they get an AQ if they win their conference, a non conference loss wouldn't necessarily hurt them, except in the rankings, and could actually help them should they win, or even have a close loss. Since St John's tries to schedule at least one WIAC team each year, others should follow suit.

BoBo

retagent, if stating facts - much like you did - is whining, then we're both doing it!!  ;)

One question - why the MIAC and IIAC to a lessor degree in your comments? IMO, they're all the same.  Explain please...

You bring a lot of humor to the WIAC board (even if stanbob doesn't think so) and me thinks this sentence is one of your funniest in a long time - in other words, since the J's do it, everyone should   ::)  Cute!!

Under the current playoff system, there is absolutely no reason for these privates to schedule any WIAC school.  You think a private school that feels it has nothing in common with a state school behemoth is going to go out of their way to help them in their hour(s) of need?  Hardly.  I doubt the only, or primary reason, the J's like to play at least one WIAC is to make them better - they know they'll be in the playoff hunt regardless.  It's probably more to do with geography  ;)

The lack of comprehension on show here is startling.  Every consideration must begin with the assumption that all conferences are puny to the point of being indistinguishable compared to the mighty WIAC, must it?  Retagent's "lesser extent" meaning that the MIAC and IIAC can offer some pretty good inter-conference competition either goes ignored or miscomprehended by you.  I bet on you being unable to understand, basic English comprehension being a skill that not all can master.

So retagent agrees with your age-old whine that no one will play WIAC but they should and you trash him for it?  In a self-defeating effort to make sure you agree with nothing he says, you actually try to attribute his agreeing with you to arrogance on his part rather than skill in argumentation on yours?

Ok, you have persuaded me... you have no skill at argumentation.  Congratulations, an unusual rhetorical victory.

Poor, poor WIAC.  Getting picked on by those awful private schools.  Always laughing at you from behind designer shades with pretty girlfriends in tow, one on each arm.  Meanies.

But yet again you persuade me.  I too doubt that the J's play WIAC teams to get better, as if WIAC really has anything to offer St John's since you are correct - the J's will most likely be playoff bound anyway.  Pity and geography are far more believable motivations.  Two victories in one post.  You're getting better.

St. Johns:
05 beat Eau Claire 35-28  EC was 6-4
06 beat Eau Claire 15-11  EC was 3-7
06 beat River Falls 41-9    RF was 3-7
07 beat River Falls 21-10  RF was 3-7
08 beat River Falls 22-6    RF was 3-7

So St. Johns played WIAC teams, try playing the top teams and see how the Johnnies do.  As I said before party was over a couple years ago.  Where is Blake Elliot when you need him?

Good call on the ROID rage is really hard to control these days.

How quickly you UWW supporters toss the conference "muppets" under the bus.

Not only does MUC dominate your team in football, but their supporters dominate yours in class.  Must be mighty frustrating.

Well said, I couldn't agree more ......+K BOBO.  8)
And you may have another one of your members wanting to take that leap out of the lower tier with Oshkosh scheduling Mount for the next two years. I am looking forward to being able to see the Raiders play in WI again. We have the same issues in the OAC but to a lesser extent because we only have to fill one game a season.. BW played a tough team in Franklin as did ONU. I give hats off to ONU who will have played #4, #1, & #18 Otterbein for their first three games of the year. I would like to see some games with the NCAC because of the geography factor but no one wants a piece of that either. The three W's Wittenberg, Wooster, Wabash to name three would be good starters and with Wooster it would rekindle some old OAC rivalries. Oh well as stated above "that discussion is for another day.

Thanks for the backup and clarification OZ.

In addition to the fact that the IIAC and MIAC have played WIAC team in recent years, and St John's almost every year, I pointed to the conferences that have members in Wisconsin and close by Illinois. Travel costs are always a consideration at this level. That's one of the reasons (I would assume) that SJU plays UWEC and UWRF as much as they do.

Don't be so hard on BoBo. He seems to get it more than most others, and I'm sure he has a bit of the scamp in him also.

Goo, for the first time, I'm going to +k you for your taking that in the humor it was intended. (You did take it that way, didn't you?)

There is much more to determining a fanbase's level of class than what you read posted on a message board by a few from ANY program.  I have personally had the priviledge of meeting and tailgating with fans from Oregon, Texas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Virginia, Indiana, Delaware, Illinois, just to name a few, and multiple times with MUC.  I have my own opinion on whose got the fans with the least amount of class, (oh, the stories I could tell,)  ;) but I will keep that to myself.  But it is based on first hand experience, not my reaction to a post or two that I didn't like on a message board!    ::)

Probably not as frustrating as it is for you - not being able to use your beloved johnnies as an example of domination and class!!  :-*

All of us cheese eating morons are well aware of the score between MUC and UWW...fbf413 is decisively more qualified regarding this than you'll ever be - you're not even in the same universe...cut your losses & go pick a fight elsewhere.  :-*  Just curious, how many MUC supporters do you know personally, and not just from this message board, to make such a silly statement? My guess in none. Moving on...

OK, looks like that other day has arrived rather quickly.  :) Now, now, Bobo.  Just because you and the MUC faithful cannot get along is no reason to bring UMHB into the discussion. Especially in such a backhanded way!  We are only the #3 ranked team and it is true that we have yet to beat the mighty warhawks, but come on!  Is it a sin to want to play the best?  The in season series with you guys was great for both teams and helped both of us forge the steel so to speak.

I was the poster that announced it was UWW's decision not to continue the series.  That is fine!  Every coach and AD has to make decisions such as this based on a myriad of reasons including travel, classes missed, competition levels, etc.  However just as you are complaining about the upper level WIAC teams having a hard time scheduling, can we complain as well.  Our schedule this year includes an NAIA team we handled easily and a DII team who beat us last year.  We also would like to play DIII competition.

To say we only want to play you because of a "thorn in our side" and that "we would avoid you if we had won a game against you" is pretty condescending to a program that strives for excellence just as the warhawks do!  Lastly, I believe every team has some "mouths" that post including UWW as well as UMHB.

Maybe we will play each other again and maybe we won't.  Why can't we just look back and enjoy the games we have had and look forward to possible games in the future?  :)
Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

I'm only taking exception to the 'lesser degree' portion here in terms of what it's referencing.  National success or scheduling cupcakes?

Going back to 1999, UW-L has only been able to schedule 6 DIII non-conference opponents... Hardin-Simmons (2), Howard Payne (2) and Illinois Wesleyan (2).  Not for lack of effort on their part.  They played twelve DII teams in that same period, not all against teams I would call suspect... Northern St., South Dakota (2), Winona St. (3), UMD (2) and Washburn (4).  Four games came against NAIA teams Azusa Pacific (3) and St. Francis.  Three other games came against transitional I-AA programs in North Dakota and South Dakota St., including a victory over South Dakota St.  The other game was against Drake, not sure if they were DII or I-AA at the time.

In a discussion a few years back with the UW-L athletic director, he said he had plenty of 'thanks, but no thanks' calls from DIII programs and a few discussions with some 'better' DIII programs, but nothing came about due to travel concerns.  UW-L already had travel commitments to Texas twice and Azusa, CA and wanted the home game first.  From 2004 to 2006 the Eagles had 10 home games and 17 road games.  I assume this is why they scheduled games at SDS and UND, for some gate revenue.

Not sure who the teams were they couldn't agree to terms with... but, in the current economic times, I don't think the scheduling is likely to improve in terms of travel.  It would be nice to have a better DIII team to play against every year, but you take what you can get.
