I'll probably have more to say on the MIAC Board, but UWW was fairly unimpressive as I saw it today. Except for their first two drives, they played very uninspired football. I did leave after the fourth UWW TD. Also, I'm not sure if looking as blase as they did, and still winning 42 - 7, is an indictment, or high praise. I would think that even My UWW "friends" would say they more or less played down to their competition.

their offense wasn't clicking like last week against Midland Lutheran. Donovan didn't seem to be on the same page as his WR's. There were some dropped balls, dumb penalties (offsides, holdings, etc). they had a couple of TD's come back via penalties. not sure if they overlooked this game as the conference schedule starts next week, or just took them too lightly in the first half thinking they would roll over them like they did last year at UPS.

Either way they stepped it up in the second half and ended up running away with it. If that's the worse game they play, i'm cool with that. The compitition only gets more competive from here on out. hopefully they have a good week of practice, stay healthy and have a strong game against P'ville next week.

Stevens Point drops to 1-2 by losing to Azusa Pacific 23-7 in California.  Point and La Crosse's seasons to date make for interesting comparisons (for those people so inclined  ;)  ).    Point had MO S&T and AP on the road and La Crosse had them at home, but the results are attention-grabbing nevertheless.  However, everyone starts with a clean slate next Saturday.

02, after reading voice's story on warhawkfootball.com, this could be changed to 'get healthy.'  The injury report going into the game was quite extensive.  This might have altered preparations during the week and contributed to the less than impressive performance you and others are reporting.  :-\

************

What were your thoughts regarding Rusch's TD pass?  Was it a good throw?  I believe the Warhawks haven't run many wrinkles like that in recent years.  I like it. Good to get it on film...one more concern to the opponent DC's.

************

Pretty lousy "night" for me.  Got up at 2 am to listen and "watch" the live stats.  But, never could get the broadcast to work - did they change something? And the live stats didn't start until the 3 min mark before the half - and then not at all in the second half.  I gave up and returned to bed...tired and pi$$ed but couldn't get back to sleep!! Crummy to say the least...if this continues, it looks I'll be getting plenty of beauty sleep on Saturday nights/Sunday mornings from now on.   :'(  Anybody else have trouble with the on-line broadcast or live stats?  Worked fine 2 weeks ago and everyweek before that - so I don't think it was my fault.  :-\

************

The Alma offensive game plan reminds me of the time a few years ago when Drew Brees & Purdue did that against the Badgers in a night game at Camp Randall.  He lost too (go figure!!)...fumble (not an INT), by Brees, recovery and scamper for TD in the closing seconds by Fletcher, I think. When the Alma coach changed the offense to this style and was trying to get his players to buy into it, he mentioned the quick strike capability...unfortunately, he obviously failed to mention it can be quick strike for the other team if you fail to execute. So, ff, I can believe that winning the yardage and first down stat doesn't necessarily translate to a W in the win column.  I bet Alma easily won the TOP stat, too. I guess the bend but don't break defensive term was coined after a game like this. Good job for the Falcons - but just remember, their opponent for the next 6 weeks isn't going to come after them dinking here and dinking there...plus, I might have concerns with my own offensive - seems like they didn't help too much in the scoring department.  Thanks for telling us about another Warhawk transfer becoming BMOC at another school.   ::)

I don't believe there's a rule against offensive and defensive POW coming from same school.  I'm sure they like to spread the wealth around, but sometimes it might be unavoidable.

Sorry guys, 1 more thing...For what it's worth, after spending just a couple minutes looking over the game stats, I've concluded that warhawk fans are definately a little spoiled.  Example:  if a team's offensive scored TD's on 6 of 8 possessions for the game, were 14-20 passing for 304 yards 1 TD and no sacks, rush for a 5.6 average over 36 carries; defensively give up a 2.9 avg over 47 rushes, passing 12-15-1-1-104 (obviously played a little soft during the last possession by UPS resulting in the 1st TD allowed) - most would take it as a solid outing. That's what the Warhawks did.  Pretty good, but I guess Warhawk followers expect more.

The offsides penalties were maddening... Lance mentioned on a few of those offsides calls against us, that  Puget Sound center was moving the ball.......FWIW

It is amazing that we can be discussing a less than stellar perfomance by a team that wins 42-7 and, minus two penalties, the score could have been 56-7 but I agree.  It was a slow start to be sure with plenty of mistakes.  The penalties have got to stop but that is not a problem new to this team. Been penalty prone for a few seasons, it seems like.  Can't have 2 TD's called back in the WIAC and expect to win every week. Thanks for the info GBMAN, I had wondered about that.  The penalties did seem a little lopsided.  But I had read the article in warhawkfootball.com beforehand about 7 players being out and wondered if it would have any affect on the game.  Also occured to me that with a bye last week and playing a team they expected to handle easily based on last seasons match up this week, that they might be laying down a little using this opportunity to rest and get ready for the WIAC.  That mentality could have carried over on a subconscious level.  All speculation and as BoBo points out, despite it appearing lackluster, the stats were there.  On paper, it was a very good day.

BoBo, I, too, had trouble with the Penn Atlantic feed cutting in and out throughout most of the first half but worked great in the second.  I never could get the radio feed to work on either computer.  Never tried the live stats.  If I can't see it or hear it, I lose interest.   :)

Regarding the other games in the WIAC, can't say I am surprised about the Eagles win, although, very surprised how dominate it was.  I have climbed to the top of the WIAC pick em's this season on the backs of the Eagles, (although with two losses this week, we'll see if that lasts,) I just sensed early on that they would be on the comeback trail this year.  At this rate, they will be a handfull in their new stadium for the Hawks, and the last game of the season to boot!  Cannot believe that UWSP layed an egg in Cali against AP.  While tough in the past, they had fallen out of the NAIA ranking since our series with them years ago.   Tough road schedule for the Pointers.  And UWRF, those stats are crazy! Hope the boys get their recognition, FF.  So conference play begins and I expect it will be fun as usual and I, too, would love some of the old posters from other programs to jump back on the board.  All-Warhawks-all-the-time, (with an occasional Raider and Johnny thrown in,) does get a little boring at times.   ;) :D ;D

After going 6-6 on extra points yesterday placekicker Jeff Schebler surpassed ex-WARHAWK Chad Wurth to become the program's and WIAC's all-time leading scorer.  With 369 points Schebler trails Mount Union's Jeff Zimmerman D3 all-time scoring record by 14 points.

Let the countdown begin.

Congrats Jeff.

If anyone else had a problem with the KOOL 106.5 audio stream of yesterday's Warhawk broadcast let me know!  We have a lot of UW-Whitewater alumni around the country that depend on our broadcast each week.

Also, it really is a bummer when live stats are having technical difficulties.  BIG BUMMER for the broadcasters!!!

BoBo--yes, the Falcon offense was questionable yesterday, especially in their inability to sustain drives. Part of that seemed to be related to our QB, Luessenheide, having what was his least effective game, and his receivers dropping balls that were very catchable.

The running game, however, looks much improved over last year's. Taylor Edwards (251 yards yesterday) did not play last week at Northwestern because of an ankle injury, but Palmer, his backup, ran for 114 yards, and Klingelhutz, who started last year, has seen duty mostly as a return specialist. And a fourth RB, Schimenz, used often in short yardage situations, and who has scored several TD's, played very little yesterday. We have WW kind of depth at RB for the first time ever.

Congrats to the UWW family for a comfortable, if not fantastically fabulous, win!!  My Saturday was great All my favorite teams won:  BC, UWW, LC, etc.  BC played in a driving rain.  If you saw any of the VA Tech vs Miami game you saw the kind of rain I am talking about.  I had to change my hoodie at half-time even though I had my rain slicker on!  As Lycoming beat us last year up in PA.  we were happy to return the favor this weekend.  The ringing of the bells was sweet to our ears and , of course, the hugs I got from my O-Liners and the rest of the team were worth being a bit wet.  Now we go into the ODAC season with the biggest rival first, Hampden-Sydney.  Hoping for a sunnier day and for the team to play well.  Sure hope to see you'all at some point this season.  I like the habit of cheering for UWW in December, but I start at the beginning of the season and keep it up all season long.  My best to the coaches, players and fans whom I've gotten to know and to those I hope to meet sometime in the near future!!!  POUND THE ROCK AT THE PERK AND BEYOND!  GO UWW!!!
Brownies for Film Day--Now there's a Slogan I can live with!!!:)  Go EAGLES!

fbf413, my trouble was with the radio feed - I never tried the video. The last time I checked, you must be within the borders of the USA to watch.  Has it been opened up to the world, and nobody told me?  ;)  :D  That would be sweet if it is. Going to listen to the replay now.

Opps, my bad.  Forgot you live half way around the world!  So yes, Voice, that is two so far who were unable to get the radio feed so it appears it may have been a system problem and not just one individual's problem with their computer.
