BoBo and bleedpurple get +k from me for their good natured jibes. You're right to point out that if we didn't consider our respective teams worthy of respect, we wouldn't put an effort into our banter.

I do have a question though, I know the WIAC is considered the toughest conference, but it seems as though the gap has grown between UWW and the rest of the conference. It goes without saying that the Warhawks have gotten better, but are the rest of the teams geting worse? I'm too lazy to look at the non-conference record, but am I full of crapola on this (too), or might that be the case.
Actually, I am going to look at the NC results now, but is it worth pondering?

Being too lazy to check the NC results myself, I can only go by my perceptions. I think at this point UWW appears to be playing really special football. They have not played some of their harder conference games yet, but Stout was 4-1 and ranked 6th in the Nation defensively before the 38-3 UWW win. I think the rest of the schedule must be played out before we can declare for sure that the gap has grown between UWW and the rest of the conference.

Just looking at the scores, teams like Stevens Point and LaCrosse appear highly capable, but also very up and down. It looks like Point is looking for more consistency offensively and LaCrosse may be suspect defensively. UW Oshkosh played point to a 7 point game, so it will be interesting to see what they bring to the table. River Falls has 4 losses, by 1 pt to the Johnnies, by 1 pt to Stout in overtime, by 2 to Oshkosh, and by 2 to LaCrosse in Triple overtime. They come to Perkins Stadium on Saturday, so we will know a bit more. My early read is that UWW is special this year and that doesn't necessarily mean they are will be an ever widening gap over the next couple of years (or even as time goes on this year). They've outscored their WIAC opponents 111-20 so far, but it is only 3/7 through the schedule. I don't know what you came up with regarding NC records, but I'm not sure conclusive evidence can be made through conference play that the conference is "down". One thing has been established for sure. UWW is very good!

Congrats BDB, the BlueDevils are lucky to have supporters like yourself.
What a football team, BW.  After watching SP's "best QB in the league" last week and then watching your guy this week I'm thinking, "Am I missing something here?"  Your team and your qb are the best I have seen in many years.

Regarding my friend BDB.  This guy has done more for youth sports, HS athletics,  the community, and Stout athletics than anyone I know.  I consider it an honor do work for him on Sat. mornings.  Bob is the real deal.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply.

The WIAC NC record, minus UWW, is 13 - 6. Not bad, but certainly not dominant. MIAC, for example is 10 - 3. Of course this does not take into account the quality of opposition, although in getting this info, it looked comparable. Some cupcakes, some ranked, or tough, opponents, and some in between. Again, as has been said many times, the good thing is, we do have playoffs, and most questions do get answered in the end.

Thanks SG, we're pretty pleased with Donovan and this year's edition of the WARHAWKS.  But there is still a long way to go and good opponents to face so we'll see how it all shakes out.

Retagent, I believe we're actually 15-6 minus WW.  LaCrosse and Stout  went 3-0.  Eau Claire, Oshkosh, Platteville and River Falls went 2-1.  Point went 1-2.

I just finished reading BDB's bio and the specifics of his contributions to the Stout athletic department and the community of Menomonie  and I have to say it is very impressive.  We have DLK, you have BDB.  ;)

Hard questions to answers retagent.  And frankly speaking, the kind of questions that are better suited to off-season discussions. There are far too many snaps left to this season for me to really worry about such things. So, since I have no desire to place my foot in my mouth now, I'd like to table the "State of the WIAC" talk to sometime after the 2nd Saturday in Dec.

************

Today, I'm thinking about River Falls & how do we win our homecoming game this year. Last year was kind of embarrassing to lose it! Come saturday night, I'll start thinking about the game after that...and so on. There are far too many teams capable of beating your brains out if you let them or give them the opportunity to, so I believe in the one game at a time mentality.

************

One of the things about the non-conference records that may or may not be important, however.  The NC records of the MIAC, IIAC, and MWC espcially, are difficult to compare to the WIAC due to the fact that their NC games are generally against each other, IMO.  I, too, am too lazy to check it out factually, but I believe that is somewhat true.  The WIAC, on the other hand, are playing not only the majority of their games outside the local proximity, but out of the geographical area (Michigan schools, UPS, for example) or out of DIII entirely. So comparing the NC records of the MIAC, IIAC etc with the WIAC is a little like comparing my two favorite munching food, apples and guavas ~ sure, they're both fruit ~ but they taste a whole lot different. I think once the season ends, it will be easy to reach concrete conclusions and I have no doubt the D3football.com team will analyze it correctly.

************
On this weeks podcast, Keith and Pat talked briefly about what makes the elite teams, elite. I think the first thing Pat said was ~ DEPTH ~ and I agree with that 100%. IMO, UWW has it, the others don't. They even made the point that in the battle of the saints on Sat in john land, that even though your QB had a lousy (my word, not theirs - had to get in one swipe at the J's  ;)) 9-21, or something like that, passing afternoon, you win the game ~ why? (besides that the other QB was even worse) ~  DEPTH. It's been spoken about at great length, but it's true ~ playing 5 extra weeks and the practices to go with it ~ pays big dividends when you can do it year after year. Other teams have a huge whole to climb out of just to make it to the play field.

Wow, if I could borrow a phrase from my friend Jerry Seinfeld, that was a whole lot to do about nothing.  ;)

I just wanted to chime in on BDB's honor. First of all, congratulations on well-deserved accolades.

With apologies to Letterman, here are the Top Ten Things to admire about Bob:
1.)  He is a great family man.
2.)  He is a good businessman.
3.)  He is a productive member of various communities (not just Menomonie)
4.)  He will actually watch hockey.
5.)  He puts up with Jason and Steve on Saturdays.
    6.)  He is a communicator.
7.)  He can multitask and still maintain focus.
8.)  He was smart enough to get out of radio.
    9.)  He likes college athletics.
10.)  He is a tremendous backer of UW-Stout!

Got this pic of BDB riding his motorcycle to work this morning. Better ease up on the praise a little.

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Hilarious!

Thanks for all the kind words, my fellow posters. I am throwing around +K's like a drunken sailor.  :)

Actually, they lost to the Johnnies 28-24 but still, those are ridiculous stats!  Poor River Falls.  It would not be a stretch, I don't think, to say that without the loss of a certain WR, their record could easily be 6-0!   Certainly not a team to take lightly this weekend.

UW-stout doesn't mess around with their tailgating policies....yikes

Oh ya, they are the toughest by far on tailgaters of any WIAC school.  Why do you think I invited BDB to my tailgate a few years ago?   ;) :D ;D

I am going to agree with stoutguy on his assessment of Whitewater. The team I saw on Saturday was the best WIAC team I've seen in years.
Perhaps they played as well as the could that day. But if they do play that well on any particular day, I don't see any team beating them.

Did you see the numbers Zweifel put up in this weekend's win over Simpson?  They're staggering.
Thirty receptions for 330 yards and three touchdowns.  OMG

The previous 2009 season DIII high was 22 receptions and 295 yards.

Pat, do you know what the all time records for single game receptions and yardage are?

Pat, do you know what the all time records for single game receptions and yardage are?

The yardage record is 418 yards, set by Lewis Howes (when he was playing for Principia, not Capital).

The receptions record is 23, set by Sean Munroe of Mass-Boston (when Mass-Boston still had football).
