fellas,

how sad i am to have missed the premier at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium!  Good job by the pio's, though i am sure they of all people realize it was a warm up game.  it is very encouraging to see 75 yards on the ground for the RB's.  I also think that Dubuque will not be the only team to have trouble matching up with Gallick and Danielson on the outside.  Danielson has always been a tremendous athlete, they were jst waiting for him to "get it" on offense.

i can't remember who said it, but the quote was something like "not sure how (Platteville) won last year, but i'm sure it won't happen at stout"

first of all, platteville beating stout isn't rare of an occurance.  it is rare at stout, but not that unreasonable this year.  hopefully the pio's keep it together on the turf.

Two Stats : J. Davis (CB) 1 game, 1 pick.  the next one goes for 6 points.
                   B. Gallick (WR) 136 yds.  Sleeper city for POY

Make, after starting strong last year, the pioneers were absolutely pounded by oshkosh and lacrosse, somehow eked out a win against highly ranked eau claire, and then dropped an 11-point lead in the last 5 minutes in a loss to point. stout however had just come off back-to-back wins against ranked ec and lax. I thought it seemed reasonable that stout was carrying greater momentum going into that game. as for this year, well let's face it, emmy is 0-3 in menomonie (losses by 5, 14, and 28 points). correct me if I'm wrong. I doubt the devils will allow a blemish on their conference record to a traditional bottom-dweller at home. especially not this early.

Looking at the standings and seeing LAX, Point, and EC at the bottom of the conference at 0-1, is strange.  To the teams at the top, enjoy it because it won't last , these three team will be on the top of conference at the end of the year.  All the other teams (not RF) playing push overs in the first week does nothing to get them ready for the WIAC season.  Only WW can claim to have played a worth while team and most people on this site think SN is over rated year in and year out.

With the expansion of the playoff system, does anyone think it would be a good idea for teams like EC, LAX, Point, and WW to play weak teams in the non-conference so that we could put more teams in the playoffs and fix this terrible playoff record.  I think if the WIAC gets two in the playoffs, they make some much needed noise and possibly make a run at the West.

Blugold,

It's interesting you brought this up because I was just wondering when the last time a WIAC school actually made an impact in the playoffs, hence make it past the second round.  I don't believe that a WIAC school winning a first round playoff games means a whole bunch because they usually play a MWC opponent or the ILL-BAD champ.  The last time a WIAC school made an impact was in 1998 when EC made it to the semi's and lost only by 3 to Rowan.  I always hear that the WIAC is the toughest conference in the country and that might be true week in and week out but the school in the WIAC have no more chance than anybody else of making it out of the second round of the playoffs.  Plus if you put two WIAC teams in the playoffs then they are just going to play each other in the second round so the NCAA can save money on travel so if that is your strategy of making a run at the west then go ahead because when it comes playoff time and the WIAC school get into the second round then I know who to put my money on!  GO WARHAWKS!!!!!!!!

Sorry for the run on sentence.  I got a little excited!

Week two picks:EC over ll. Wes                   Osh over Concordia                 WW over Xavier                    CSP over RF                       LC over HPU. I note the large number of picks for HPU. You must not have seen the Eagles bomb HPU 42-0 in 2003. HPU had an excellent QB then, and he is gone. Eagles by 13, even with three first week injuries.              Lastly, Stout over Platt

Are you referring to this past week? I'm sure South Dakota State might argue that they are a worthwhile team.
