Kudos to the vast majority of SJU fans for a gracious response to the loss. Outside of SJUumpire's inability to swallow pride, you were very sportsman-like.

One stat from the game shows more than ordinary luck: how many times does a team lose 7 of 8 fumbles? Recovering fumbles is largely a matter of who's closest to the ball.

bulk19,
So in your opinion, does that mean that Elliot and Linfield are beatable IF a team and their defense can play 4 solid quarters?

Kilted Rat

Belated congrats to UWW on a great and impressive win on Sat.

I apologize on behalf of Johnnie Nation for Umpire's remarks... some people never learned how to take losing graciously or what class means.

Your boys outplayed ours plain and simple. A team doesn't fumble 8 times without a hard-hitting, agressive, relentless defense causing at least some of them!

Best of luck for the rest of the playoffs!

I just wanted to echo the other Johnnie posters, but congratulations to UWW.  The Warhawks deserved to win.  It was frustrating to watch my team lay an egg like that, and while I may believe things would have been different on a different day, that does not matter.  UWW was the better team on the day that it mattered, and that's all there is to it.

Good luck to the Warhawks against Linfield-- and go West region!  Keep the Stagg in the WEST!

Well boys, here we are, ready to play in the Stagg Bowl West.  #1 vs #2.  Its obvious that we should be meeting on the 17th but in the end it really doesnt matter.  Brett the Butcher will be ready to rock.  If this thing turns into a track meet, it could be real interesting.  Our Cats can put points up in bunches, as you all know.  Lets get ready to rock !!!!!!!

Phone it in, this one is in the bank boys

I'll weigh in on that as a cat fan.  Yes they are beatable if you can play AMAZING D for four quarters.   The reason I say amazing is because Mary Hardin Baylor played SOLID D for four quarters and still gave up the big play on the first drive.  Linfield will score quickly if you make one mistake.  Speed isn't very forgiving and it sounds like you've got speed to burn as well, so it should be quite the match-up.  The other piece is your D can play as well as they want, but Linfield won the Stagg last year on a special teams play.  I think all three phases will be especially crucial this week.  Should be a war, both teams sound like they have playmakers all over the field.  My biased opinion is that I don't think that anyone can hold the offense down all day long.  I think if somebody beats Linfield they are going to have to win a 35-31 or 49-42 type game...Should be fun!

I think this game is going to come down to whose defense makes enough stops and turnovers are going to play a huge role in the outcome of the game.

It's really shaping up to be a game of a epic nature.....speed all over the field, playmakers on each side of the ball, great coaching, etc, etc.  It really could be a back and forth game for 4 quarters with one or two big plays determining the final outcome.

I'm expecting a hell of a battle and know both teams will bring their "A" game.

Looking forward to it.

The WARHAWKS[/color] will need to establish the running game to control the time of possession and keep Linfield's offense off the field.   They're bound to score points, they're too good not to, so we've got to limit their opportunities as much as possible.   It's going to take a solid effort on both sides of the ball.

It's the luck of the Finer.  Linefield won't be able to match the physical play of the WARHAWKS.  Beaver will run all over them.  Let the zone roll!!!

To beat Linfield...
1.  Ball Control Offense
2.  No big plays (easier said than done)
   - Casey Allen is physical and deceivingly fast
   - You can jam him pretty well, but he adjusts so you can't jam him every time
   - Realize that he's not the only target.
   - Safeties need to play like corners.  There is no time to "float" to the ball.  Get to your responsibility and get there quick.  Otherwise you'll be making tackles 15 yards down field all day.
3.  Pressure the QB (once again, easier said than done).
   - If you don't pressure him he'll pick you apart. He uses three step drops that develop into deep plays because he has time to let his Wideouts clear the LBs.  He will put the ball wherever it needs to go.  He continually beat us ( the eagles) last year with slants down and inside and past our LBs.
4.  LBs- be physical with receivers.
5.  Beaver-go show us who deserves the Gags Trophy!
5.  Go put your purples together and make it a war!  Good luck WW

This sounds like it's going to be the type of game that whitewater likes playing. A good old slobber knocker. Just like the WIAC.
One thing I know that can happen is that the warhawks will be able to control the clok, and keep Linfield's ofense off the field. The warhawks do not shoot themselves in the foot on offense. It is going to be a good game. However if something goes wrong where they turn the ball over which is not like them as they are in the plus turnover margin catergory. It could be a different story.
However I believe the first of the two are going to happen.
Also I believe that our defense will be able to contain and pressure elliott. As we have by far the best defensive coordinator in the WIAC conference.

I'd like congratulate all the WIAC faithful on a great game over St John's. Few folks believe me back here but I think you have a great shot at the Stagg. For too many years you guys have been beating each other up all year in conference play and had nothing left come the playoffs. WW has an excellant program as I witnessed in the two meetings with Mount. I'm sure both you and Linfield have an equal chance to win, with your road mission being just a little tougher mentally. Best of luck and I think a rematch in the Stagg Bowl would be awesome. Of course we have a few games to win as well.
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

Heard it all before my man, heard it the most  ( smash mouth crap) from Rowan and LAX last year and you know what happened to them. Oh and the undefeated Defending National Champs name is Linfield, check your spelling.

Looking forward to meeting the Warhark faithful this weekend.  We can all agree that PURPLE is the color of champions.

We've held some pretty good running backs down......see UMHB's Justin Bryson 17 carries for 26 yds in the '04 Stagg.  I'm sure Beaver will be tough to hold down and it sounds like you've got some other playmakers on offense.  Concordia was +3 in turnover margin, sacked Elliott twice and held a 2-to-1 in TOP and still lost by 14, so we'll be ready.

The CatDome rocks this Saturday!!!!!!

Probably the last one on here for me this year.

I didn't mean the comment to be taken as too negative about the chants. I guess I was just hoping for something a little more creative, and as Ritz put it, "colorful" Also, I'm surprised that someone hasn't mentioned it yet, but an article in the paper reminded me. The diving catch by Stanley was one of the best I've seen. I didn't think he could get to it when it was in the air. His speed burst was impressive, but not as impressive as his hands.

I saw on the Johnnie Web site that the total yards for SJU was only about 50 fewer than UWW. Can that be accurate? I would have thought it would have been more lopsided. It looked like the domination was heavier than that.

Again, Good Luck, and may the best team win.
